of Autism Spectrum Disorders, including controversies
about these deficits.
 Identify common speech and motor speech symptoms
of Williams syndrome & 7q11.23 Duplication syndrome,
including comparisons between these two syndromes.
 Identify common speech and motor speech symptoms
of Down Syndrome, including myths about these
deficits.
Learner Outcomes — You will be able to:
 Identify key principles for evaluation of speech and
motor speech deficits in children with
neurodevelopmental syndromes.
 Identify key principles for intervention of speech and
motor speech deficits in children with
neurodevelopmental syndromes.
 Discuss strategies for problem-solving when children
appear to be “stuck” (not progressing in therapy) .
Shelley Velleman, Ph.D., CCC-SLP
Sean Sweeney, M.S. M.Ed. CCC- SLP is a speechlanguage pathologist and technology consultant
working in private practice at The Ely Center in
Newton, MA. Sean spent over a decade in the public
school setting serving in the roles of SLP and
instructional technology specialist. His blog,
SpeechTechie, was inspired by the combination of
those complementary vocations and a desire to
empower others in his field to employ technology in
their work. Sean currently consults to and presents
for local and national organizations on technology
integration in speech and language interventions.
He is a frequent presenter at ASHA and has
participated as a speaker at the regional Social
Thinking® Providers’ Conferences. Sean is a regular
columnist for The ASHA Leader and SpeechLanguage Pathology and Audiology Canada’s

Michelle L. Tristani, M.S./CCC-SLP has been
practicing since 1991 delivering communication,
cognitive, and swallowing services and trainings
within adult and geriatric populations across the
continuum of care. Michelle specializes in speech
pathology services in the medically complex and
palliative care patient population.
