Overview Real Options for City Kids (R.O.C.K.) is dedicated to nurturing the healthy development of children by listening attentively to their needs and by providing opportunities to those who might not otherwise have access. R.O.C.K. aims to promote the positive development and long-term success of the youth that it serves through a combination of inschool and after school learning enrichment, sports and fitness, leadership training, outdoor adventure, and summer camp opportunities. R.O.C.K.'s programs are designed to serve girls and boys, ages 6-17, who live in or attend school in San Francisco's Visitacion Valley. JOB DESCRIPTION Title: Summer Escape High School Assistant Description: R.O.C.K.’s Summer Escape High School Assistant, will assist in managing a group of 20 middle school youth and teach them how to cook or navigate through San Francisco. At the end of the program each group will design a final project and compete in our “Iron Chef” competition if leading a cooking group. Pay: $12.25/hour Commitment: Mondays – Fridays, time 8:30 am – 3:00 pm (may change). June 8th through July 17th. Training Dates: June 1st – June 5th. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES The Summer Escape High school Assistant is responsible for: Assisting and working closely with Summer Escape Counselor Assisting in teaching a group of 20 students youth decision making skills Teaching youth how to cook or navigate through San Francisco Assisting youth in managing a group budget Assisting youth in planning & executing activities Assisting youth in creating a final project Taking attendance Creating and facilitating fun activities for students Creating a safe and nurturing environment for the youth Setting up and Cleaning the R.O.C.K. office and classrooms Attending weekly staff meetings Assisting Middle School Program Coordinator Attending Mandatory White Water Rafting/Camping Trip QUALIFICATIONS Experience in working with middle school youth or actively involved in R.O.C.K.’s programs Desire to work with at-risk urban youth Sense of humor Have a reliable means of transportation to and from program Available the entire duration of program Provide the following: transcripts from the 2014-2015 school year and work permit HOW TO APPLY Turn in your resume and a one page typed essay to Lota Gaetos.
