SOUTHWEST COAST NEWFOUNDLAND DRAWING AND OIL PAINTING WORKSHOPS SEPTEMBER 3 - 6, 2015 SEPTEMBER 17 - 20, 2015 In the Rose Blanche Newfoundland Summer Study Centre A view of the Rose Blanche village and lighthouse. Create, relax, discover, in Rose Blanche, Newfoundland Instructor Diane Ostryzniuk – Robert Diane has instructed oil painting and drawing workshops for adults and children at all levels, from beginner to intermediate to advanced programs. Diane’s teaching experience includes: the Algonquin College campus in Pembroke, Ontario; summer arts 2003 programs at The Mississippi Mills School of the Arts; The Senior Citizens Recreation Center in Pembroke, Ontario; and various community and school art programs in both Manitoba and Ontario. Visit the Diane Ostryzniuk Gallery Workshop Description Learn to draw, sketch and paint, in a fun and relaxed atmosphere that provides a foundation in techniques needed to create an image in oil paint. Through the subject of landscape painting you will learn texture, line, value and shape using various brush and palette knife techniques. A basic understanding of the principles of colour mixing and blending elements will help you compose a balanced and working landscape composition. You will paint two 11 x 14 canvasses, with individual attention from the instructor as well as free studio time, group discussions, demos, and Plein Air (outdoor) sketching, weather permitting. Bring along a camera, a couple of old shirts, good walking shoes and let’s have fun! Location This educational vacation takes place at the Rose Blanche Summer Study Centre in Rose Blanche, Newfoundland. The web site is www.roseblanche.ca The workshop is limited to 10 participants. This might be the perfect gift for someone’s special birthday or Christmas. Accommodation Participants will stay next to the studio at the gracious, comfortable RoseSea Bed & Breakfast, right on the harbour. Please see room descriptions. Workshop Dates September 3 -‐ 6, 2015 September 17 -‐ 20, 2015 Participants can be on course for four days, then travel on their own in Newfoundland for 10 days, and return for another workshop with the same instructor, to refine techniques and to continue to learn new skills. Cost The total cost of the workshop is $1,050. This includes all meals and snacks, accommodation (double occupancy), cost of workshop, art supplies, and taxes. Art supplies provided include two 11 x 14 stretched canvasses, paints, brushes, easels, palette knives, cleaning supplies, sketch books, and pens and pencils. Transportation costs are NOT included. Registration and enquiries Closing date for registration is April 15, 2015 with 20% deposit required. Deadline for a full refund is April 30, 2015. How to get there Rose Blanche is located on the southwest coast of Newfoundland and is accessible by Air Canada flights to Deer Lake (via Halifax) or by Porter Airlines to Stephenville. Major car rental agencies operate out of the Deer Lake and Stephenville airports and from Port Aux Basques. The DRL Bus Company takes passengers from the Deer Lake airport and the Stephenville airport to the Marine Atlantic Ferry terminal in Port Aux Basques. Travel by taxi from Port Aux Basques to Rose Blanche (43 km) can be arranged. For those who prefer to drive, Marine Atlantic operates a ferry service between North Sydney, Nova Scotia and Port Aux Basques, NL. Ferry reservations are strongly recommended. Proposed workshop schedule Because this is a vacation too, the structure of the day will be flexible according to the wishes of the group.
