acts on behalf of its global membership
to prevent and control cardiovascular
disease (CVD). Using local insights from
our Members, we combine leading science
with life-changing policy to achieve a 25%
reduction in CVD mortality by 2025.
We envision a world free from the burden of preventable cardiovascular
disease (CVD), in which all people from all backgrounds can access
cardiovascular care that is effective, affordable and safe.

Founded in 1946, the World Heart
Federation is the world’s only global
body dedicated to leading the fight
against heart disease and stroke.
We do this by uniting a community
of 200+ member organizations from
100+ countries, who are all dedicated
to the prevention and control of
cardiovascular disease (CVD).
CVD is the world’s leading cause of
death, claiming more 17.3 million lives
per year – more than cancer, HIV/AIDS,
malaria and tuberculosis combined.
OUR 5 FOCUS AREAS
FUNDING
With the support of its Members, the World
Heart Federation works tirelessly to build
a world-wide commitment to improved
cardiovascular health, at the global,
regional, national and community levels.
The WHF receives funding from a range
of sources. These include Member
organizations, corporate partners and
foundations. Further information can
be found on our website:
We have identified 5 key focus areas to guide our work:

GLOBAL ADVOCACY
Engaging with policy makers and key stakeholders to ensure
that CVD is recognised as one of the biggest global barriers
to health and development.
NATIONAL PLANS
Guiding countries in developing effective national plans to tackle
the burden of CVD and NCDs, ensuring these are in place and
operational worldwide, with a focus on key geographies.
CVD ROADMAPS
Addressing WHO targets on tobacco, secondary prevention and
raised blood pressure, as well as RHD and other WHF priority
areas and geographies, through the creation of strategy guides
(‘Roadmaps’) to be championed by our networks.
RHEUMATIC HEART DISEASE
Encouraging the global health and development communities to
convene and advocate around reducing the global burden of rheumatic
heart disease, a solvable health problem with an abandoned solution,
which primarily affects children and young individuals in poor countries.
