The Little Sweep is an opera for children in three scenes by
the English composer Benjamin Britten, with a libretto by
Eric Crozier. The short opera tells the tale of a young sweep
who gets stuck up a chimney and is rescued by plucky
children who plot to keep him safe from his brutal master.
Following on the heels of AFCM’s hugely successful
performances of Britten’s Noye’s Fludde and Maxwell
Davies’ Cinderella AFCM’s 2015 production will be
conducted by Nicholas Daniel and feature festival artists
including Valda Wilson, the Orava String Quartet, Benjamin
Martin, David Selig and Timothy Constable.
Duration approx 45 minutes.
ADULT $20, MEMBER $15, CONCESSION $18, CHILDREN (17 YEARS & UNDER) $10.

Those auditioning will be required to sing an excerpt from The Little Sweep accompanied plus a piece
of their own choice A Capella. AFCM General Manager Sue Hackett, Chorus Master Anne Milanovic
and Families’ Concert Project Coordinator Amy Zaghini will help facilitate the auditions. Call backs as
required.

Rehearsals:
Rehearsal times will be Tuesdays 5.30pm – 7pm & Sundays 2pm – 4.30pm. Each rehearsal will be
broken down into a schedule that the cast will receive a week in advance and not every performer
will be needed at each rehearsal.
First rehearsal will be Sunday 17th May 2015 (11 weeks of rehearsals)
