This is the day which the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Let us confess our sins.
Merciful God, we have sinned in what we have thought and said, in the wrong we have
done and in the good we have not done. We have sinned in ignorance: we have sinned in
weakness: we have sinned through our own deliberate fault. We are truly sorry. We
repent and turn to you. Forgive us, for our Saviour Christ’s sake, and renew our lives to
the glory of your name. Amen.

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to God’s people on earth. Lord God, heavenly
King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for
your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take
away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the
Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you
alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the

Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of the Church is governed

A reading from the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel:

(2: 1–5)
When I saw this vision I prostrated myself and I heard a voice: ‘Stand up, O man,’ he said,
‘and let me talk with you.’ As he spoke, a spirit came into me and stood me on my feet, and

I listened to him speaking. He said to me, ‘O man, I am sending you to the Israelites,
rebels who have rebelled against me. They and their forefathers have been in revolt against
me to this very day, and this generation to which I am sending you is stubborn and obstinate.
You are to say to them, “These are the words of the Lord God,” and they will know that
they have a prophet among them, whether they listen or whether in their rebelliousness
they refuse to listen.’

Glory to you, Lord Christ; your death we show forth; your resurrection we proclaim;

Therefore loving God, recalling your great goodness to us in Christ, his suffering and
death, his resurrection and ascension, and looking for his coming in glory, we celebrate our
redemption with this bread of life and this cup of salvation. Accept our sacrifice of praise
and thanksgiving which we offer through Christ our great high priest. Send your Holy
Spirit that these gifts of bread and wine which we receive may be to us the body and blood
of Christ, and that we, filled with the Spirit’s grace and power, may be renewed for the
service of your kingdom. United in Christ with all who stand before you in earth and
heaven, we worship you, O God, in songs of everlasting praise.

A reading from the Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians:
(12: 2–10)
I know a Christian man who fourteen years ago (whether in the body or out of the body, I
do not know—God knows) was caught up as far as the third heaven. And I know that this
same man (whether in the body or apart from the body, I do not know—God knows) was
caught up into paradise, and heard words so secret that human lips may not repeat them.
About such a man I am ready to boast; but I will not boast on my own account, except of
my weaknesses. If I chose to boast, it would not be the boast of a fool, for I should be
speaking the truth. But I refrain, because I do not want anyone to form an estimate of me
that goes beyond the evidence of his own eyes and ears. To keep me from being unduly
elated by the magnificence of such revelations, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger
of Satan sent to buffet me; this was to save me from being unduly elated. Three times I
begged the Lord to rid me of it, but his answer was: ‘My grace is all you need; power is
most fully seen in weakness.’ I am therefore happy to boast of my weaknesses, because then
the power of Christ will rest upon me. So I am content with a life of weakness, insult,
hardship, persecution, and distress, all for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am
strong.

Blessing, honour and glory be yours, here and everywhere, now and forever. Amen.
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on
earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those
who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.
The Breaking of the Bread:

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.
We who are many are one body, for we all share the one bread.

redeemer of the world, grant us your peace.
The Invitation:
This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Happy are those who are
called to his supper.
Lord I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed.
I am the light of the world, says the Lord; whoever follows me will not walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life.

The Presentation of the Gifts:
¶ At the taking of the bread:
Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this bread to
offer, which earth has given and human hands have made. It will become for us the bread
of life.

Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this wine to
offer, fruit of the vine and work of human hands. It will become our spiritual drink.

Pray my brothers and sisters that our sacrifice may be acceptable to God the Almighty
Father.
May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands to the praise and glory of his name, for our
good, and the good of all his Church.
Accept our offerings, O Lord, we pray, and in sanctifying them grant that they may profit
us for salvation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Eucharistic Prayer:

It is right to offer thanks and praise.
It is right indeed, it is our joy and our salvation, holy Lord, Almighty Father, everlasting

Son. You are the source of all life and goodness; through your eternal Word you have
created all things from the beginning and formed us in your own image; male and female
you created us. When we sinned and turned away you called us back to yourself and gave
your Son to share our human nature. By his death on the cross, he made the one perfect
sacrifice for the sin of the world and freed us from the bondage of sin. You raised him triumphant over death; you exalted him in glory. In him you have made us a holy people by
sending upon us your holy and lifegiving Spirit. Therefore with the faithful who rest in

The Holy Gospel according to Mark:
(6: 1–13)
Praise and glory to God.
Jesus went to his home town accompanied by his disciples. When the sabbath came he
began to teach in the synagogue; and the large congregation who heard him asked in
amazement, ‘Where does he get it from? What is this wisdom he has been given? How
does he perform such miracles? Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of
James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are not his sisters here with us? So they turned
against him. Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet never lacks honour except in his home town,
among his relations and his own family.’ And he was unable to do any miracle there, except
that he put his hands on a few sick people and healed them; and he was astonished at their
want of faith. As he went round the villages teaching, he summoned the Twelve and sent
them out two by two with authority over unclean spirits. He instructed them to take
nothing for the journey except a stick—no bread, no pack, no money in their belts. They
might wear sandals, but not a second coat. ‘When you enter a house,’ he told them, ‘stay
there until you keave that district. At any place where they will not receive you or listen to

you, shake the dust off your feet as you leave, as a solemn warning.’ So they set out and
proclaimed the need for repentance; they drove out many demons, and anointed many sick
people with oil and cured them.
This is the Gospel of Christ. Praise to Christ, the Word.
The Sermon: Ben Randall, Ordinand on Placement
The Nicene Creed:
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is,
seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the
Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made,
of one being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and
became fully human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death
and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he
ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in
glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father
and the Son, who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, and
has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for
the forgiveness of sins.We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world
to come. Amen.

In a moment of silence, we make our own intentions to God at this mass.

Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

The Peace
E te whanau, we are the Body of Christ,
By one Spirit we were baptised into one body.

our city.
The Troubled Areas of the World
We remember the victims of disaster in the world, especially the people of Nepal, the
refugees of North Africa, the victims of violence and war in Syria, Egypt, the Congo,
Zimbabwe, Somalia, the Sudan/Dafur, the Middle East (especially Palestine and Lebanon),
Iraq, and Afghanistan. Those afflicted with AIDS, starvation, homelessness, or imprisonment.
For all those who have died recently, or those whose anniversaries occur at this time. For all
those who have worshipped and ministered in this place and those we pray for especially.
