News from Principal, Mrs. McGuire
This school year the students of St. Cecilia School have earned so many academic awards! This week we are
highlighting those who competed in the 4H Communication Event and the Diocesan Academic Competition. Be sure to
scroll down to see their accomplishments!
The deadline to apply for Tuition Assistance for the 2015-16 school year is this Friday, March 27th. If you are a family in
need of assistance, you can go to our website http://saintceciliaschool.net and click on "Admissions" for the application
form.
On Monday, March 30th, the Kindergarten students will be singing a prelude song for the 8:00am Mass. As always,
parents are welcome to join us for Mass and to hear them sing.
As we near the start of Holy Week, we are asking that all families who used the Rice Bowls as a family Lenten almsgiving
activity to please return them on Monday, March 30th. Please see the letter in this week's folders for more specific
details.

Congratulations! - The SCPTO has announced the following winners for the World's Finest Chocolate Candy Sale:
1st - Reed Family (9 boxes); 2nd - Titmus Family (7 boxes); 3rd - Adams & Fitzgerald Families (5 boxes)
Thanks to all those who assisted in this important fundraiser. The top sellers have earned SCRIP cards and the
opportunity to pick a special prize. Stay tuned at the next SCPTO meeting to find out our total profits.
Tastefully Simple Fundraiser - On Saturday, March 14th, preschool parent Kim Glick hosted a Freezer Meal Workshop
at St. Cecilia School. The workshop was well attended and over $200 was raised toward the building fund. We want to
thank Mrs. Glick and those who attended. Another workshop is being planned for the fall of 2015 - so stay tuned! Please
feel free to reach out to Mrs. Glick at [email protected] to order products or host your own party.
8th Grade Parents - A paper was sent home with the 8th grade students today regarding another scholarship
opportunity. This is only for students who plan to attend Holy Cross High School. Please see the form to find out if your
child is eligible to apply. The deadline is Friday, April 24th.

Box Top News: Our Spring Box Tops contest will run from Monday April 20th through Friday April 24th.
For a list of
participating products or collection sheets parents can go to the Box Tops for Education website. Please put student's
name and grade on submissions so they can have their name put into a drawing for prizes. Box Tops are worth 10 cents
each so”Don't Toss Them...Clip Them” and help St. Cecilia earn monies to purchase school items.
Chastity Speaker-The Diocese of Covington Pro-Life Office and St. Elizabeth Healthcare invite students and their parents to attend
Authentic Love Featuring Mr. Charles Marks, on Thursday, April 16th from 6:30pm-8:30pm at Bishop Howard Memorial Auditorium,
1125 Madison Ave, Covington (across from the Cathedral). Charles Marks is a passionate Catholic speaker in love with Christ and His
Church. He is dedicated to sharing the Gospel- especially the universal call to holiness and to love in a culture that has forgotten
what love is. He challenges teens to live a life of chastity and authentic love. Born and raised in San Diego, California, Charles fell in
love with Christ during his high school years through a radical encounter with Christ in the Eucharist. He graduated from Franciscan
University and is currently pursuing his MA in Theology from the Augustine Institute in Denver, Colorado. Since college graduation,
Charles has worked as a Chastity speaker, Theology teacher and campus minister. Charles currently works as a youth minister in
Cincinnati. He resides in Northern Kentucky with his wife and two daughters . This presentation is appropriate for students in 8th

The Greater Cincinnati Performing Arts Society will be presenting their final two concerts of the season when
they host the Steep Canyon Rangers at the Martin Marietta Theater at Harrison High School Saturday April 11
and The Hit Men featuring former stars of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons at the McAuley Performing Arts
Center Saturday May 9. The Steep Canyon Rangers won their second Grammy Award for best Bluegrass album
of the year in 2013. They spent 2 years touring and recording with Steve Martin and were featured on PBS as well
as David Letterman, Jay Leno and Conan O'Brein to name a few. They are currently the hottest group on the Bluegrass
circuit. The Hit Men were founded by Lee Shapiro and Jerry Polci of the Four Seasons in response to the incredible
succes of the Jersey Boys musical. They collected a group of additional seasoned and accomplished musicians who
have performed and recorded with Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, Carly Simon, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Barry Manilow,
Tommy James and many others. Their shows not only feature all of the great hits of the Four Seasons but also all of
the other amazing hits these men have been associated with over the years. For tickets and information, go to

assistance program at the Catholic elementary school of your choice. The ESAP Foundation will match all donations
so this translates to a $10 donation per ticket. Get a group of friends and family together for a great night out and

Red Cross Clubs
Middle School and High School youth looking for service opportunities are encouraged to begin Red Cross Clubs at
their schools. Through the club, groups of students work together to complete projects that add to the Red Cross
mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies. They will do this by educating
people in their schools and communities about disaster preparedness, and by raising funds to support the work of
their local chapter and/or the International Red Cross. School clubs consist of minimum of 4 students, and a
school advisor, who will work together with their local Red Cross representative to build their club and conduct
education and fund-raising activities.
Although it seems late in the school year, it is NOT too late to get a club up and running and providing service
opportunities for its members, OR to lay the groundwork for a club to start rolling as the 2015 -2016 school year

Leadership Development Camp
Teens ages 13 – 17 who are interested in growing their leadership skills are invited to apply to attend the
American Red Cross Leadership Development Camp 2015. The camp is comprised of peer-created sessions
designed to encourage participants to think in new ways about themselves as leaders, and to build leadership
skills. Camp will be held July 9 – 12 on the campus of Xavier University. Camp fee is $2oo; financial assistance is

Mulch Sale
Holy Cross High School is having its 17th Annual Mulch Sale, selling Black Platinum Mulch, Red Color
Enhanced Platinum Mulch and Black Color Enhanced Platinum Mulch for $4.25 per bag, which includes
FREE DELIVERY and sales tax. The Black Platinum is available in 2.25 cubic foot bags that cover 20
square feet at 1 inch thick. The Red and Black Color Enhanced Platinum are both available in 2.0 cubic
foot bags that cover 18 square feet at one inch thick. Delivery begins on Friday, April 10, and continues
for at least 4 weeks. Most deliveries will be made the weekends of April 10-12, April 24-26 & May 13. Arrangements for later or other delivery dates can be made by calling 859-291-8588. Deliveries

The Diocesan Academic Competition was held on Monday, March 9th. The following students
participated in the event: Luke Dreas (Math), Adam Heist (Religion), Chase Holmes (Social Studies),
Trenton Martin (Social Studies), Sean McIntosh (Science), Ainsley Moore (Science), AJ Wood (Math),
Evan Wells (Oratory), Makayla Kohl (Mixed Media Arts). Adam Heist placed first in Religion and
Sean McIntosh placed 2nd in Storytelling and 3rd in Science. Way to go Crusaders!
