5. General Control Objectives for the Incident (include alternatives)
• Amateur radio operators will primarily be “Back Country” communicators entrusted with reporting medical
emergencies, logistics, and health and welfare traffic throughout the course in coordination with the
SCRAMP fire/medical dispatchers. In addition on Saturday, ham operators will support communications
for the Carmel Valley Route of the Gran Fondo.
• Observe and report potential or existing hazards to net control.
6. Weather Forecast for the Period

7. General Safety Message
Amateur radio communicators should stay out of the riding path placing their vehicle as far away
from the riding path as possible to avoid collisions. The best possible parking space is either well
behind the riders if they are entering the roadway or if they will be in your path at a "feed zone",
park down the road and past where they will be turning. If parking down hill, the vehicle should be
placed 3-4 car lengths down the road, but not in the directions the riders will be turning.
A "cross band repeater" is planned, but be aware of others that may use the same frequency or
subfrequency tone. Radio amateurs in the vicinity of marshal points should stay well away from the
cyclist path and be alert for riders that might suddenly lose control.
When exiting the “BLM Public Lands” be especially watchful for stray and recreational bicyclists,
occasional horses and range sheep, and yield the “right-of-way” to any. Do NOT stray into the
“bush.” There is possible unstable military explosive ordnance (artillery shells, ammunition, hand
grenades, etc.) even in the non-posted areas, but most of these areas are posted. Also, native
poison oak flourishes along with ticks, some as small as a pin head. Native plants should not be
trampled, and some are recovering or delicate. Over 44 different species of endangered and rare
plants and animals live here on the Fort Ord Public Lands (FOPL). Some areas are posted “Native
Plant Preserve." Thanks for your cooperation. Snakes have been spotted in the past as well, so
stay alert!

to stay in contact with your team. The roadways in the Carmel Valley region are likely to be quite busy bicycles and
vehicles in both directions and participants and non-participants alike.
• When calling in an incident, note the bib color and number and coordinates if possible.
• The end times are estimates on the later side. However, we need the course to be clear before we can demobilize
so please don't plan on outside commitments too close to these times.
