Dear Parents / Caregivers,
Congratulations to our Year 3 and 5 students, who came to school this week and gave the NAPLAN Test a good, honest
go and dedicated their best effort - this year was our highest participation rate ever. Our school uses these results to modify
our teaching and target the learning on what each student needs to be successful. I thank families for your support in
preparing the students and getting them to school on time and in good shape for NAPLAN. Mrs Waldron’s organisation of
the testing was exemplary.
The Totally Wild story "Food Revolution Day – Garden & Kitchen" featuring our Burpengary State School students in
Year 2, 5 and 6 went to air on Tuesday morning at 8:00am on Channel Eleven, and it was a cracker of a show! If (like
me) you missed it that morning because you were at work, the episode is available to watch online at the Tenplay website:
http://tenplay.com.au/channel-eleven/totally-wild Enjoy the show, and well done to everybody involved!
A reminder to all families who have not already done so: please prioritise the return of the student details sheet so
that we have up to date details for every child and family, including an active and frequently checked email address if
at all possible. We are aiming to increase our capacity for digital pushes of information to families following the experience
of the East Coast Low event on May 01. Accurate information is vital at all times, and email is another way that we can
enhance timely communication with parents.
This term’s P&C’s Subway Meal Day is on Wednesday 26 May. Orders must be placed before Wednesday 20 May, in
order to meet the store’s ordering deadline. Each student who orders a Subway Meal is in a draw for a new bike,
which will be drawn on parade on Friday 29 May.
Burpengary State Secondary College Twilight Tour with the Principal - Thursday 28 May, commencing at 5.00pm.
Mr Peter Hoehn, Principal of BSSC, invites the parents and carers of Burpengary State School to undertake a personal
tour with him to learn about the College vision, see the innovative facilities, hear about the dynamic curriculum, and learn
about the innovation programs. The tour commences at 5.00pm from the Information Services Centre. All welcome.
Narangba Valley State High School Faculty Showcase – Tuesday 9 June: Parents of current Year 6 students are
invited to attend Narangba Valley High School’s Faculty Showcase afternoon on Tuesday, 9 June. This afternoon provides
an opportunity for future parents and students to tour through our school, meet some of our exceptional teachers and learn
more about the subjects on offer in 2015. Between 4pm and 6pm, parents will be able to tour through the school and find
out about the subjects on offer to Year 7 students. In addition to the tour of the school and faculty displays, two brief parent
information sessions will run in the PALACE on the afternoon. These sessions will occur at 4pm and 5:45pm. The
Enrolment Officer will also be present on the day and enrolment papers can be collected.

able to relate to this story!
If your Year 3 child is looking for ideas on what to read, we have been promoting a few chapter book series to them

Our school is participating in the 2015 Premiers Reading Challenge. As well as being fun, this challenge aims to
boost children’s literacy skills by encouraging students to read widely for pleasure and learning, to develop their
imagination, and to cultivate a passion for literature. The reading period for the 2015 Premier's Reading Challenge
commences on Tuesday 19 May and closes Friday 28 August. This year, the Premier has challenged all state and
non-state school students from Prep to Year 2 to read or experience 20 books, Years 3 and 4 to read 20 books and
Years 5 and 6 to read 15 books. Prep to Year 2 students will read or experience their books in their classes, however
students in Years 3 to 6 will be required to read and record their books on their own reading challenge record sheet.
Students wishing to take part in this year’s challenge can register by talking to their class teacher or to Mrs Orupold, our

Are you a parent of a child with type 1 diabetes? Every day, thousands of Australian children suffer the effects of type 1 diabetes and
families struggle with illness management and children’s behavioural and emotional adjustment. Positive Parenting for Healthy Living is an
adaptation of the successful Triple P- Positive Parenting Program offering practical ideas and support for parents of children with type 1
diabetes. This innovative group program is designed to help parents manage their child’s illness, assist children in coping with their illness and
emotions, and prevent and manage difficult child behaviour. Over the next few months and for a limited time only, parents of 2-10 year old
children with type 1 diabetes are able to access Positive Parenting for Healthy Living Triple P as part of a University of Queensland research
project. Parents will be able to attend the program free of charge, and will be asked to complete 2 sets of assessment measures (questionnaire
and family observation) over a 6 month period, as part of the study. Contact Amy Mitchell on (07) 3346 1202 or email
