NEXT STEP Mentoring Program About the Program The NEXT STEP Mentoring Program matches final and penultimate year Accounting Major students to industry mentors (including Curtin Alumni, staff and friends) who also share an undergraduate major in accounting. Mentors share their experience, professional knowledge and a small investment of their time to assist students with their transition into graduate employment and to enhance their career development and planning skills. How does it work? The program runs from May until October 2015 with applications closing 11th May. Once registered, you will be notified by email 18th May if a suitable student has been matched with you. Mentors and students are matched primarily by experience in the desired career path of the student. This information is collected as part of the registration process. eMentoring options are also available for mentors and mentees who are not based in Perth or where face to face meetings are not viable. (Skype, phone and email communication can be used instead) It is expected that all participants, based in Perth, attend the Launch/Briefing evening on Tuesday 26th May. This is where the mentor and the student will learn more about the program, collect resources, and meet for the first time to begin their mentoring relationship. If a suitable match is not found, you have the option of your information being kept on file for future opportunities to assist Curtin students. Mentors who complete the program will be issued with a formal Completion Certificate. Students and mentors are invited to attend a final debrief/celebration event in October 2015. What are the commitments? Students who have a better understanding of the graduate workplace are better placed to make the transition in to graduate employment. The program will help you to: 1. Expected attendance at the evening Launch/Briefing Event Tuesday 26th May 2015. 2. A minimum of 10 contact hours in total with your mentee over the five months. 3. Use of a log sheet to document each session. 4. Final Wrap-Up Evening in October - a social occasion to reflect on your experience and formally complete the program. 5. Program Completion Survey. This Curtin University program is jointly run by the Curtin Careers & Employment Centre and the Office of Alumni Relations.
