O n the following pages you will find a schedule of activities and sessions offered during our Spring Open House. Parents and students are welcome to split up and attend different sessions. We encourage everyone to attend the welcome at 8:30 a.m. and the social hour at 1:00 p.m. You should take every chance you get to meet people, ask lots of questions, and imagine yourself in this community—on campus and in Hyde Park’s many Rockefeller Memorial Chapel 5850 South Woodlawn Avenue Chicago, IL 60637 Follow @viewchicago for updates throughout the day! restaurants, bookstores, museums, parks, and coffee shops. Open House — Overview 7:30 a.m. Early Bird Campus Tour Rockefeller Memorial Chapel 7:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Check-In At check-in you will be given a folder with a complete schedule and information about Hyde Park and the city. *Other transit information and UChicago materials will be available in Ida Noyes Hall. Rockefeller Memorial Chapel 7:45 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Luggage Drop-off Drop off your luggage with our staff, and we’ll take care of it for you until you need it again! 7:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Campus Tours Current UChicago students will lead walking tours of our beautiful campus at 7:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 1:00 p.m. 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Library, Ida Noyes Hall Rockefeller Memorial Chapel *Tour guides will depart from the front lawn. Model Classes Join distinguished members of our faculty for insightful presentations drawn from the material covered in one of their small, discussion-based classes. Schedule of Events 7:30 a.m. Early Bird Campus Tour Front Lawn, Rockefeller Memorial Chapel 8:30 a.m. Welcome Rockefeller Memorial Chapel James Nondorf, Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid, will begin the day with a brief welcome. Overflow seating will be in Max Palevsky Cinema, Ida Noyes Hall. 9:00 a.m. 10:00 a.m. Model Class: English Literature David Bevington is the Phyllis Fay Horton Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in the Department of English, as well as the Chair of the Theater and Performance Studies program. He is the one of the most prominent Shakespearean scholars working today. Max Palevsky Cinema, Ida Noyes Hall Career Advancement Meredith Daw, Executive Director of Career Advancement, will discuss professional opportunities available for students through our eight co-curricular career programs. Cloister Club, Ida Noyes Hall Highly Selective Admissions Session An admissions officer will discuss the process of applying to highly selective schools. Campus Tour Rockefeller Memorial Chapel Model Class: The Anthropology of the Chicago Blues Michael Dietler is a Professor of Anthropology, as well as an associated faculty member in Classics and Social Sciences in the College. He also teaches courses on Chicago Blues and has further ethnomusicological interests in Celtic and African popular music. Study Abroad Lauren Schneider, Program Coordinator in the Study Abroad office, will explain our dynamic study abroad programs. Financial Aid Session Financial aid officers will detail our need-based financial aid requirements and resources. His research focuses on regulation of insulin sensitivity and energy metabolism. He teaches classes in Endocrinology in the Biological Sciences Collegiate Division. UChicago Experience An admissions counselor and several UChicago students will give a general overview of what it’s like to be a UChicago student. Financial Aid Session Financial aid officers will explain our need-based financial aid requirements and resources.
