Vantage!College.!!

UBC!Vantage!College!offers!first$year!curriculum!in!a!cohort$learning!program!to!academically!strong!
international!students!whose!English!language!proficiency!does!not!yet!meet!the!English!language!
requirements!for!direct!admission!into!UBC.!The!primary!goals!of!the!Vantage!College!curriculum!are!(1)!
to!encourage!students’!cultural,!linguistic,!and!academic!engagement!in!disciplinary!communities!and!(2)!
to!maximize!students’!successful!transition!to!year!two!in!the!Faculties!of!Arts,!Science,!Applied!Science,!
or!Management.!!In!the!academic!year!2015$2016,!UBC!Vantage!College!will!offer!two!Arts!streams,!one!
that!coordinates!Arts!courses!in!Geography,!Political!Science,!Psychology,!and!Research!Writing!for!
students!wishing!to!progress!into!the!Faculty!of!Arts!and!another!that!coordinates!Arts!courses!in!
nd
Psychology,!Economics,!Sociology,!and!Research!Writing!for!students!wishing!to!progress!into!the!2 !year!
of!the!Faculty!of!Management!at!UBC’s!Okanagan!campus,!in!Kelowna.!Embedded!language!instruction!
and!an!English!for!Academic!Purposes!course!also!support!students’!learning.!
This!a!full$time,!one$year!appointment!(non$tenure!track),!with!the!possibility!of!renewal!on!a!yearly!basis!
subject!to!availability!of!funds,!excellent!performance!and!in!accordance!with!University!policies.!!The!
anticipated!start!date!for!the!position!is!July!1,!2015.!
The!workload!for!this!position!includes!teaching!plus!service.!!The!full$time!teaching!load!for!a!12$Month!
Lecturer!is!24!credits!per!year.!Teaching!assignments!would!typically!include!introductory!and/or!
intermediate!economics!and!specialized!undergraduate!project!and/or!field!courses.!Teaching!in!Vantage!
College!may!also!include!a!multidisciplinary!research!project!course!(VANT!149)!and!other!project$based!
courses!such!as!VANT!148.!!The!successful!candidate!will!be!appointed!in!the!Vancouver!School!of!
Economics!with!2/3!of!the!overall!workload!responsibilities!dedicated!towards!Vantage!College.!The!
teaching!load!assignment!is!expected!to!include!15!credits!in!Vantage!and!9!credits!in!VSE.!!In!addition,!
the!successful!candidate!is!expected!to!work!closely!with!other!members!of!the!instructional!team!at!UBC!
Vantage!College!and!in!VSE.!!Specifically,!the!selected!candidate!will!be!expected!to!contribute!to!
curriculum!and!materials!development,!collaborate!with!instructors!in!both!units,!and!contribute!to!each!
unit!through!service!on!committees.!!
