protecting digital freedom non-legislative process in the
TTIP
The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) is an agreement which is
currently being negotiated between the United States and the European Union.
The stated aim of the agreement is to guarantee better protection for investors and their
investments and to lower barriers to trade. As strong human rights legislation can be perceived as a barrier to trade, the negotiations present a clear threat for fundamental rights.
This shows only the committees of relevance to digital rights, seven other committees are
also giving opinions, including the Petitions Committee.
