Hyland Hills Park and Recreation District ACTIVITIES GUIDE Fall 2016 C h a l le n g e yo u r s e l f NEW at our R o p e s Co u r s e a n d M a z e ! See pag e 6 fo r m o r e i n fo r m a tion. Welcome FALL 2016 Hyland Hills – Partnership Provides the Way! From Hyland Hills’ inception in the 1950’s, the District has been known for its ability to partner with organizations with the goal of providing the best recreational services for our residents, while at the same time avoiding duplicity, to save money. Today, we continue that tradition as evidenced in our Clear Creek Valley Park project, where we have more than a dozen partners to date. As many of you are aware, the park will soon yield new trails, a community garden, multi-use sports fields, an agriculturally and historically themed destination playground, fishing lakes, parking lots, maintenance shop and year-around bathrooms. Additional amenities will come with future phases. Because this was a huge project, we really needed partners. Some of our key partners to date include: Adams County, which granted us more than $4 million dollars to purchase the land and to begin development of the park; the City of Arvada, which helped to broker an agreement between Hyland Hills and WANCO, Inc. which needed nearby space to grow, and where Arvada wanted to expand their job base – both contributed significant dollars to the project; the City of Westminster, which gave us 150,000 yards of surplus dirt from a nearby RTD light rail station project; the Colorado Garden Foundation which provided a $50,000 grant to help create a 26-plot community garden; Urban Drainage, which gave us $50,000 to preserve a portion of the flood plain area; and GOCO, which provided early planning dollars of $20,000 toward the project. These partners, along with in-kind help from the Butterfly Pavilion, Westminster Public Schools, Regis University, and the Berkeley Water and Sanitation District, have all made this monumental project doable, and we thank them. So, very soon, Clear Creek Valley Park will offer an unusual and well thought out, historically significant recreation area that could have only come to be through collaboration with our community partners. The Hyland Hills Board of Directors and the Hyland Hills staff remain extremely aware and grateful of the support we continually receive from our residents and surrounding community and we look forward to introducing Phase One of the new Clear Creek Valley Park to you in the fall. As always, we invite your comments and input at www.hylandhills.org and of course at the Administration Building, where we invite you to share your comments and ideas.
