Hammerglass EnergyBlinds are a unique product designed to be both aesthetically pleasing and practical. The design allows any window or door to retain its visual aspect whilst offering maximum protection from the heat and light of the sun’s rays. Hammerglass EnergyBlinds will reduce the heat transfer into a room by up to 85%. This reduces the cost of cooling a room by over 25% whilst also improving the overall working environment. During winter months Hammerglass EnergyBlinds allows heat to be retained within a room. When closed, the blind will improve a window’s U-value by over 30%, with associated cost savings. Tests were carried out by the Swedish National Testing and Research Institute using a double glazed window with a U-value of 2.7. Improves the U-value by up to 30%! This is why Hammerglass EnergyBlinds work so well... Sun rays consist of visible light, infrared radiation (IR) and ultraviolet radiation (UV). There are three kinds of UV-radiation: UV-A (bleaches furniture), UV-B (makes us tanned) and UV-C. Window glass only allows light with wavelengths between 350-2500 nm to pass (1). Therefore only UV-A transmits through the window. This is also the reason why we don’t get tanned indoors - the wavelengths of the UV-B rays are too short to pass through. When sunlight hits a surface, it is converted to the long-wave radiation. It is this radiation that heats up the room - and remains there without possibility of escaping through the window glass.
