Message from the President
E Pluribus Unum – Out of many, one.
We have all seen this Latin inscription on our American currency and on the Seal of the
United States. Although originally understood to depict the unity that emerged out of the
many colonies, or states, to form one nation, this phrase is now understood to reflect the
ideal of our country that out of the diversity of races, cultures, religions, ethnicities, etc., we
are in fact a single nation.
Charity unites us
to God...
There is nothing
mean in charity,
nothing arrogant.
Charity knows
no schism, does
not rebel, does all
things in concord.
In charity all
the elect of God
have been made
perfect.

This same phrase applies to us as a school. Villa Maria Academy is certainly a melting pot –
or patchwork – of a diversity of cultures, socio-economic classes, interests, talents, skills, etc.
Add Cathedral Prep to the mix, and that diversity increases exponentially. Yet out of that
diversity emerges a unity – one school sharing the one mission of developing women and
men of vision in spirit, mind, and body.
As you look through the pages of this Advancement Review, you will quickly notice a
diversity as well. There are individuals of various generations – young and old – coming from
various backgrounds, careers, and, indeed, every walk of life. However, out of this diversity
there is a real sense of unity – a commitment to the mission of Villa Maria.
Perhaps another way to translate this Latin inscription, if I may take a few liberties, is to say,
“We’re all in this together.” In other words, we all share in this responsibility of furthering
the mission of the school and transforming the lives of our students. As such, I am deeply
grateful to the individuals, organizations and businesses who are listed in this year’s
Advancement Review, thus indicating their commitment to the school’s mission. Each of
them individually has made a difference in the lives of our students and collectively, united
for a common purpose, we are not only securing the future of Villa Maria, but ensuring
that future generations will have the opportunity to be transformed from young girls into
mature, moral, faith-filled women.
I thank those generous individuals, organizations and businesses who are listed within these pages for joining together for a common purpose and for
believing in and supporting the mission of our school. I also invite and encourage others who are not listed to join with us and make a difference.
Out of many, one. We’re all in this together.

Cathedral Preparatory School and Villa Maria
Academy form a Christ-centered, co-institutional,
college preparatory Catholic school of the Diocese
of Erie. With a foundation of faith, family, excellence,
and tradition, we develop men and women of vision
in spirit, mind, and body.

annual gifts and is the cornerstone of philanthropic giving at Villa,

n July 1 of 2010, Villa Maria
Academy kicked off our most
aggressive Capital Campaign
in the history of the school. MissionPassion-Vision: The Campaign for Villa
Maria Academy announced a goal of $3M.
We are proud to announce that Villa has
surpassed that goal by $450,000! This
would not have been possible without
the extreme generosity of our donors
who partnered with us along the past
three years to trump this milestone.

The Villa Maria Academy
Scholarship Fund is a product
of Pennsylvania’s EITC/OSTC
Scholarship Programs. These
programs allow businesses
to direct their Pennsylvania
taxes to a scholarship fund
by receiving tax credits up
to 90%. VMA has been an
approved scholarship fund for
the last several years, and we’ve
realized tremendous growth in
the program. The Villa Maria
Academy Scholarship Fund
received $269,684 in financial
aid from area businesses, which
was distributed to 49 families
who qualified for the program.
We are extremely grateful to

in Pennsylvania’s EITC/OSTC
Scholarship Programs by
redirecting their tax dollars
to the Villa Maria Academy
Scholarship Fund.
