Nowadays, digital sources have become the almost exclusive provider for these visual materials. „Long-established antitheses like public vs. private, producer vs. recipient, or professional vs. amateur are increasingly dissolving, because under the terms of the digital economy, they are literally ballanced.“ (cit. Ernst Rebell, Druckgrafik, Reclam 2009). Mobile photo-sharing platforms are ranked as high as professional photographs, historical masterpieces appear on the same level as Facebook snaps do. This unceasing stream of visual information mirrors ourselves, as it constitutes our notions about our environment and our identities. The images appear in a staccato, and before any single picture could leave a deeper impact on us, there is already the next image superimposing. What remains are fragments of impressions, disrupted by burned-out voids, forming white spots on the map that we take for the world. While I develop my paintings, I proceed in a way quite similar to that of a sculptor who is constantly removing and adding bits of plaster or clay, and removing them again. Applying paint and washing paint off the canvas are the core elements informing the working process. „A philosopher, or rather an existentialist (given that the phenomenon considered has its origins in life, and not in thought), might perceive the painting‘s bright parts as the eventually unutterable which comprises an abundance of possible voices. Hence the bright parts would indicate an act of deconstruction, taking place inbetween and besides of what actually can be constructed. (...)“ (cit. Gérard Piniel, in an e-mail sent to Oliver Krähenbühl) Oliver Krähenbühl october 2014 translation: Bettina Carl, Zurich Untitled, Oil on cotton, 179 x 139cm, 2015 Untitled, Oil on cotton, 70 x 100 cm, 2014 right: Untitled, Oil on cotton, 172 x 125cm, 2015 Exhibition view: more than a whisper, Gallery Graf & Schelble,Basel, 2015 Untitled #2, Oil on cotton, 70 x 50 cm, 2015 Untitled, Oil on cotton, 130 x 95 cm, 2014 Untitled, Oil on cotton, 50 x 70 cm, 2015 Untitled, Oil on cotton, 50 x 70 cm, 2015 Exhibition view: more than a whisper, Gallery Graf & Schelble, 2015 Untitled, Oil on cotton, 179 x 138 cm, 2015 Untitled, Öl auf Sperrholz, 40 x 30 cm, 2008 Untitled, Öl auf Sperrholz, 40 x 30 cm, 2009 Untitled #2, Öl auf Sperrholz, 40 x 30 cm, 2014 left: Untitled, Oil on cotton, 180 x 125 cm, 2014 FLAG Installation sketch: FLAG, art room R57, Zurich 2014 three images: Oil on cotton, 90 x 130 cm, 2014 Video: Assembled excerpts on YouTube found Mobile Videos of Mexico City Flag Raising Ceremony, Loop 3:15 min, 2014 presented on a 5 x 7 cm display on a white pedestal.
