Country information EP-Nuffic fact sheet EP-Nuffic has an online fact sheet available with specific information on higher education in China. This will provide you with important details about the trends and developments in government policies on higher education, national university rankings and labour market developments in China, among other key factors. For this detailed market information, please see: http://www.nuffic.nl/promotie/marktinformatie Educational system The Diploma Recognition Department also has a specific country module on China available. A country module contains general information about the educational system of a specific country. It also provides information about the main qualifications issued in a specific country, as well as how these qualifications are evaluated in the Netherlands. To view these country modules, see: http://www.nuffic.nl/en/diploma-recognition/country-modules Why China? In 2014, the number of Chinese students that studied overseas was more than 460,000, with an increase of 11.09 percent compared with just the year before. China contributes the second largest number of international students to Dutch institutions of higher education after Germany. There are currently more than 6,400 Chinese students getting an education in the Netherlands. According to statistics by China Education Online (http://www.eol.cn, one of the most comprehensive online educational portals in China), the Netherlands is the ninth preferred destination country for Chinese students. However, the increase in Sino-Dutch cooperation in business, politics and education suggests that more Chinese students will become interested in studying in the Netherlands. Neso China and partners have given presentations called Wat Chinese Studenten Willen / What Chinese Students Want at the EP-Nuffic annual conference last March 2015. The presentation can be downloaded here: www.nuffic.nl/bibliotheek/wat-chinese-studenten-willen-kansen-en-uitdagingenvoor-het-nederlandse-ho-in-china.pdf Neso China will organise special promotional events for Dutch institutions of higher education around the CEE. Together the events will be called The Dutch Days of Education. This refers to the Dutch Day festivals and the events that the Dutch network in China (e.g. embassy, consulates, Netherlands Business Support Offices—NBSOs, etc.) are organising throughout the year in China. During these week(s) and events there will be enough time to plan your own schedule and visit with your partners. For more information see the chapter Dutch Days of Education. The educational market in China is fiercely competitive. Countries such as Northern Ireland or the states of Scandinavia invest a lot in the promotion of their offerings. Dutch universities of applied sciences and bachelor programmes have an especially difficult position now attracting (fee-paying) quality students. It is therefore important that we join forces and demonstrate at least once per year what the Dutch higher education system has to offer Chinese students, their parents and our partner institutions. Why China Education Expo (CEE)? In existence for 15 years, the China Education Expo (CEE) has grown to become the hub of global education excellence in China. The 16th Expo will commence on 24 October 2015 Beijing and end on 1 November in Shanghai with the participation of Neso China along with Dutch institutions of higher education. Last year, there were 53,500 total visitors, including 31,000 in Beijing, 2,500 in Guangzhou, 3,000 in Chengdu and 17,000 in Shanghai. Of these 60.7 percent were interested in Masters programmes and 31.3 percent were interested in Bachelors programmes. Application Package - China Education Expo/Dutch Days of Education 2015 4 Neso China has selected the CEE to organise the Holland Pavilion in 2015. It is the biggest education fair in China. There are several advantages to participating at CEE: - Good for Study in Holland branding and promotion in China - Meet your potential students - Good opportunity to network during CEE and SIH events with agents and partner institutions - EHEF (European Higher Education Fair) will be organised during the CEE in Beijing that will give Study in Europe and European countries like the Netherlands extra promotion and visibility - Extra Holland and Study in Holland promotion events will be organised around the CEE by Neso China, some in cooperation with the Embassy of the Netherlands, consulates and NBSOs. New promotional tools at the CEE This year the CEE has created new promotional tools to get visitors more involved the event. - An Online Message Board will be available at the CEE official website where initial contact can be made between exhibitors and visitors. Students can leave online messages for schools they are interested in before the event. -Visitor Online Account. This service will be available from 4 September on CEE website and Wechat (Chinese social media utility). By using this new system, visitors can access the exhibitor’s profile, ask questions, leave messages and check the seminar schedule, etc. -As an exhibitor you will be able to get pre-fair information from potential students by viewing and answering questions and contacting potential students; you can schedule appointments with students that want to meet with you at your booth. EHEF A European Higher Education Fair (EHEF) will be part of the CEE in Beijing. The official programme is not launched yet. It might include a separate EU booth, EU venue decorations and Study in Europe promotions. Please note that Neso China will participate at the CEE in Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai; Neso China will not participate at the events in Guangzhou. According to some Dutch comments the number or students visitors in both Beijing and Shanghai met expectations on Saturday, but was disappointing on Sunday. Dutch participants were very positive about the Alumni Reunion Dinner Friday evening organised by Neso and the NANC alumni network before the start of the CEE. A similar alumni event will be organised again this year. Also, as in other years a coffee machine will be available at the Neso China booth for Dutch participants and their guests. You can also contact Neso China’s Alumnus Officer, Shuo Zhao to contact your alumni by [email protected] Many alumni will assist you without expecting any payment. Visa, Travel and accommodation Travel advice Always check the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (www.minbuza.nl) for the latest travel information and advice. Visa Always check in advance if you need a visa when booking your travel. To enter China, you can apply for either a business visa or a tourist visa. According to last year’s experience, it’s simpler to get a tourist visa than a business visa. Therefore we would recommend getting a tourist visa to enter China. Just in case, you would like to apply for a business visa, an invitation letter can be offered by the organiser. Invitation Letter for Visa (deadline: 1 September, 2015) Official Invitation Letter CNY200/Person It will be issued by the China Education Association for International Exchange within 10 working days after you complete and submit your application form and scanned passport page. You may also buy your visa invitation from BRIC Travel and/or arrange your Chinese visa through them. Please read the information and forms that BRIC Travel has carefully provided here: http://brictravel.nl/ If you have any questions about travelling to China, please be in touch with our contact person at BRIC Travel - Reina van den Heuvel, phone (+31) 020 6234612, email: [email protected] (note: she does not work on Wednesdays). Festival Dutch Days of Education 2015 Neso China will organise special promotional events for Dutch institutions of higher education around the CEE. In Beijing and Shanghai there will be a series of events centred around the Dutch Days of Education Festival at the CEE. The plan below will give you a general idea of the Festival. Together the events will be called the Dutch Days of Education referring to the Dutch Day festivals the Dutch Network in China (e.g. embassy, consulates, NBSO, etc.) is organising throughout the year in China. During these week(s) and events there will be enough time for you to plan your own individual schedule and visit with your partner institutions. The educational market in China is fiercely competitive. Countries such as Northern Ireland or Scandinavian countries invest a lot in the promotion of their offerings. Dutch universities of applied sciences and bachelor programmes have an especially difficult position attracting fee-paying quality students. It is therefore important that we join forces and demonstrate at least once a year what the Dutch higher education system has to offer Chinese students, their parents and our partner institutions. Events IGSF / CSC fair This fair is organised by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and focuses on Masters and PhD students. It is held one week before the CEE. In 2014 Neso China, along with the Dutch Embassy in China, Tilburg University and VU Amsterdam participated in this fair. Each year the CSC fair is organised at a different university in Beijing. There is no joint application. For more info and to apply see: www.csc.edu.cn/edufair Agent matchmaking Approximately 50 percent of all Chinese students that want to study abroad consult with educational agents.
