Smooth,flatfibrecementsheetthatispaintedon-sitetocreateaflatpanellook.Tough,flexible
sheetingsuitableforexternalcladdingandinternallining.Flatcementsheetsweremadeof
asbestosfibresandcementmix,commonlyintheratioof1to9.Intheasbestoscementsheet,
asbestosfibresareboundwithinthecementmatrixandareconsideredtobewellimmobilisedin
thecementandlesspronetobereleasedintotheenvironment.
Duetoitsasbestoscontent,cementsheetsareheatandmoistureresistantmakingthemidealfor
useinwetorheatsensitiveareas.Asbestoscementsheetswereusedasceilingpaneling,internal
andexternalwalls,externaleavesacrossdomestic,agricultural,commercialandindustrial
applications.
Oftenreferredtoasfibro.Fibrosheetingisperhapsoneofthecommonestbuildingproductsto
comeacrosswhendoingrenovationstoanolderbuilding.Itwaswidelyusedfromthe1950sto
thelate1980s.Themostlikelyformoffibrotocomeacrossisflatsheetfibro,oftenusedfor
outsidecladdingofhouses,shedsandgarages.Thisflatsheetingwassimplynailedtothewooden
framedstructurethusmakingconstructionquickandcheap.
