APPENDIX J: Screen Capture and User Guide
The Implication of Knowledge Management in Higher Learning Institution –
Proposed Knowledge Management System User Guide
1. Set web application access rights:
i.
Login using ‘Admin’ user account by clicking ‘F8’ while loading Operating
System (Win2000/XP). Next, select ‘Safe Mode with Networking Prompt’
option from load menu.
ii.
Grant permission to ‘/webapp/template’ folder for ‘aspnet’ account.
a. Right click on ‘/webapp/template’ folder and click on ‘Security’ tab.
b. Add ‘aspnet’ account and checked on modify permission.
iii.
Grant permission to ‘KMgmtUserDir’ folder for ‘iusr_pcname’ and ‘aspnet’
account.
a. Right click on ‘KMgmtUserDir’ folder and click on ‘Security’ tab.
b. Add ‘iusr_pcname’ and ‘aspnet’ account and checked on modify
permission.
2. Register third party component:
i.
Register ‘ASPTear.dll’ in ‘\webapp\template\asptear.dll’
ii.
Run command ‘regsvr32 C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\webapp\template\asptear.dll’
iii.
Restart IIS using ‘iisreset’ command in ‘Run’ command.
3. Ensure that all folders are located at the correct directories as follow:
i.
‘KMgmtPortal2’ folder in ‘C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\KMgmtPortal2’ directory
ii.
‘KMgmtPortal2Error’ folder in ‘C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\KMgmtPortal2Error’
directory
iii.
‘KMgmtUserDir’ folder in ‘C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\KMgmtUserDir’
iv.
‘KMKnowledgeFileToUpload’ folder in
‘C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\KMKnowledgeFileToUpload’ directory
v.
‘KMKnowledgeFileViaTemp’ folder in
‘C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\KMKnowledgeFileViaTemp’ directory
vi.
‘KMSubjectToUpload’ folder in
‘C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\KMSubjectToUpload’ directory
vii.
‘KMTemplateToUpload’ folder in
‘C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\KMTemplateToUpload’ directory
4. Create a new web site for KMS:
i.
Open IIS using ‘inetmgr’ from Run command.
ii.
Click on ‘Default Web Site’ and right click the ‘KMgmtPortal2’ folder and
select ‘Properties’. Under ‘Directory’ tab, click ‘Create’ button on the
‘Application Settings’ to create application.
5. Shut down or close all the anti-virus software or programs.
6. MySQL 5.0 setting and restore:
i.
Login with:
Username
: root
Password
: admin
ii.
Set up the database named ‘kmgmtportaldb’ by clicking the ‘Restore’ option
using
‘C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\KMgmtPortalMySQL\kmgmtportaldb_backup.sql’
7. Click Internet Explorer (IE) browser and enter
‘http://localhost/kmgmtportal2/webapp/kmloginpage.aspx’.
8. The users are able to test the proposed KMS based on the following user guides
with the test data in Appendix H.
