ITALY
GOLF AND CULTURE PERFECTLY MIXED
www.movesports.com
Golfing in Italy is developing as the sport gains
more active players each day. The golf courses
are not world known yet but, is just a matter
of time until the Italian clubs start getting
international competitions.
The quality of the fairways and greens is
unquestionable, making every golf course
a challenge to players of all levels. The mild
climate is an important factor as it allows the
golfers to play all year round.
Not only you will have a great golf experience,
you will love the culture of every place you
visit. Every city has many monuments and
other cultural venues, the regional dishes are
fantastic and the locals tend to be friendly and
helpful.
The land of pizza and pasta also offers many
different attractions to fill your time off, such
as malls, local shops, historical places, clubs,
bars, boat rides, and much more. As said in the
title, Italy is the perfect country to combine
golf, culture and a fantastic time in one trip.
ROME
8 NIGHTS / 5 ROUNDS
www.movesports.com
The areas of Tuscany and Lazio are two of the
most popular Italian golf destinations and they
are in line to become a real favourite among
the UK golfer as well. Millions of tourists flock
to the Italian regions each year to take in the
historic and cultural delights of the likes of
Florence, Pisa and, of course, Rome.
The quality of the golf courses in the
areas matches anything to be found on the
sightseeing trail. Whether you want to play
first-class 18 or nine-hole venues winding
their way through a mixture of oak pines, olive
groves, lakes and magnificent scenery, or
even want to play a course in the crater of an
extinct volcano, Tuscany, Lazio and its nearby
neighbour Umbria have something to satisfy
the appetite of the hungriest of golfers.
The quality is just as high when you cross the
border and venture south towards Rome with
the Italian capital offering numerous beautiful
courses that can be played all year thanks
to the ideal climate of the city. Le Querce,
which has been compared favourably with
Sunningdale and Wentworth, and Olgiata are
regularly ranked in the top ten golf courses in
Italy and have both held the Italian Open.
Parco dei Medici has played host to the ladies’
equivalent and, with its many water hazards,
offers a test that will challenge the best of
golfers.
Situated in the crater of an extinct volcano,
Castelgandolfo offers you the chance to
sample the unique experience of playing
Robert Trent Jones’ course with the Pope’s
summer residence overlooking you.
Until the arrival of Costantino Rocca, Italy
hardly figured as a top golf nation but the
emergence of 2009 Open Championship
silver medallist Matteo Mannasero and World
Cup-winning brothers Francesco and Edoardo
Molinari, has raised many people’s interest in
the country’s golfing scene.
Parco dE Medici
Parco de Medici Golf Club is a 27-hole course located just
8 miles from Leonardo Da Vinci Intercontinental Airport
and it is part of the Sheraton Parco de Medici Golf Hotel
& Resort. There are three 9-hole courses, White, Blue
and Red. White and Blue nines combined represent the
championship course, a challenging Par 72, 7000 yards
long from the tips. Water hazards and/or OBs involve
almost every hole of the course, so precision is a must
when playing here. Greens are small for the length of the
holes, and sometimes tricky. This course will definitely
challenge your game.
Parco di Roma
A project of P.B. Dye, Parco di Roma golf course is one of
the most challenging golf courses in the city of Rome. The
golf club consists on 54 holes.. From the higher elevations
you can enjoy wonderful panoramas of the city of Rome,
including St. Peter’s cupola. Parco di Roma Golf course
presents a demanding test for the lower handicap, and an
enjoyable experience for the higher handicap.
The practice area is pretty complete and of a high
standard: a driving range with more than 50 open bays,
a huge putting green, pitching area and a putting course.
Castelgandolfo
The Castelgandolfo golf course benefits from a
spectacular setting, situated in the area of a now
inactive volcano. The course itself was designed by the
esteemed American golf architect, Robert Trent Jones,
and is a fantastic par-72 layout measuring 6,826 yards.
Carved through lovely woodland groves and around
huge expanses of water, there are plenty of hazards and
fantastic natural beauty. The resort-style creation is
playable for golfers of all abilities, and as one of the best
courses in the Lazio region, comes highly recommended
for a golf holiday around Rome. The eighteen holes were
designed respecting the hollow of the crater and inserting
fairways in the setting of rich vegetation where century
old Mediterranean olives and pines are interspersed with
vines, cypresses, mimosas, citrus fruits and rose-gardens.
lgiata
oma
The Olgiata Golf Club is universally known as one of most
beautiful and most prestigious golf courses of the Italian
peninsula. The golf course is articulated in two parts: the
west course, and the east course
The west course is the oldest of the two and consists of
18 holes, par 72. On this course, major important and even
international events have taken place, such as the Italian
Open, 2002, the 1968 and 1984 Professionals Teams
World Championship and many other F.I.G. tournaments.
The east course was recently created and it is a 9-hole,
par 36 course. Far from being an executive course,
the east course is a real stand-alone, on which various
tournaments and competitions are played.
oma
The Acquasanta is the oldest club in Italy. Established in
1903 this very pleasant, rolling parkland layout, has stood
the test of time, and still provides golfers of all levels
with a thorough and enjoyable examination. The rise and
fall of the course follows the natural contours of this
surprisingly rural environment. It constantly demands
good course management and skilful shot making. It is
a great old-style course in superb setting of plants and
trees with views of old aquaducts and the Apian Way. The
championship course is fairly tight. Pines and other trees
line the fairways with some that come into play. Streams
meander through and become hazards on a number of
holes.
