Kurssin tavoitteena on tukea kauppakorkeakoulun jatko-opiskelijoita väitöskirjatyön
käynnistymisessä ja etenemisessä sekä tutkimusyhteisön syntymisessä. Opintojakson
tavoitteena on perehdyttää opiskelija oman alansa tutkimusperinteeseen ja nykyisiin
tutkimussuuntauksiin.
Tutkimussuunnitelman valmistelua sisältäen väitöskirjatyön keskeiset käsitteet, teoriat ja
käytettävät metodit. Kurssilla kirjoitetaan tutkimussuunnitelman lisäksi työpaperit oman
väitöskirjatyön keskeisistä käsitteistä ja tutkimusalueen keskeisistä teorioista suhteessa
väitöskirjatyöhön. Lisäksi opiskelijat analysoivat väitöskirjoja ja muita tieteellisiä julkaisuja
sekä osallistuvat väitöstilaisuuteen. Vastuullinen professori ja vierailevat asiantuntijat
alustavat tieteellisestä kirjoittamisesta, julkaisemisesta jne.
Kurssivaatimuksena ovat hyväksytysti suoritetut harjoitustyöt ja aktiivinen osallistuminen
seminaareihin. Kurssin tarkemmat suoritusohjeet ja aikataulu ilmoitetaan kurssilla.
Kirjat, artikkelit, tieteelliset julkaisut ja väitöskirjat sopimuksen mukaan.

the first year of postgraduate studies. The course will be

postgraduate studies
The aim is to support postgraduate students majoring in the faculty in the start and progress
of their dissertation process and in establishing a research community. The aim of the
course is to acquaint students with the research traditions and current research trends in
their own field.
Preparation of a research plan including the key concepts, theories and methods of the
dissertation. Students write a research plan, and working papers on the key concepts of
their dissertation and key theories in their research area in relation to their dissertation. In
addition, students analyse dissertations and other scientific publications and attend a public
examination of a dissertation. The professor responsible and visiting experts give
presentations on scientific writing, publication, etc.
Successful completion requires assignments approved and active participation in seminar
sessions. Detailed instructions and schedules given in the course sessions.
Books, articles, scientific publications and dissertations as agreed.

Kurssi on jatko-opiskelijoille vapaaehtoinen kauppatieteiden
valinnaisiin jatko-opintoihin sisällytettävä kurssi. Kauppatieteiden
nuoremmat tutkijat esittävät kuitenkin ensimmäisen opintovuoden
aikana Kati-Forumilla yksityiskohtaisen tutkimussuunnitelman.

Opintojakson suoritettuaan opiskelija hallitsee tutkimustyön tekemisen eri osa-alueet.
Kurssi koostuu kauppatieteiden jatko-opiskelijoiden ja tutkijoiden esityksistä sekä
itsenäisestä työskentelystä.
Kurssisuoritus koostuu itsenäisestä työskentelystä, aktiivisesta osallistumisesta seminaariin
ja sisältää: 1) oman väitöskirjatyön kirjallisen tutkimussuunnitelman laatiminen tai
päivittäminen, 2) tutkimussuunnitelman esittäminen seminaaritapaamisessa, 3) muiden
jatko-opiskelijoiden tutkimussuunnitelmien esitysten seuraaminen ja 4) toisen jatkoopiskelijan tutkimussuunnitelman kirjallinen arviointi. Kurssin tarkemmat suoritusohjeet
lähetetään kurssille ilmoittautuneille keväällä 2016.

By the end of the course, students are expected to master the different stages of research
work.
The course consists of presentations by postgraduate students and researchers at the
school and of independent work.
Successful completion requires independent work and active participation, including 1)
preparing or updating the written research plan for one's dissertation 2) presenting one’s
research plan in the seminar 3) following the research plan presentations of other
postgraduate students, and 4) a written evaluation of the research plan of another
postgraduate student. Detailed instructions will be sent to students who enrol for the course
in spring 2016.

Kurssi on kaikille jatko-opiskelijoille pakollinen kurssi
metodologian ja tieteenteorian opinnoissa sekä pakollinen
valintakurssi kauppatieteiden jatko-opiskelijaksi pääsemiseksi.
Kurssin kontaktiopetus järjestetään, mikäli ilmoittautuneita on
vähintään 10. Hakijat, joilla ei ole opinto-oikeutta LUT:ssa, hakevat

kurssille avoimen yliopiston kautta 8.4.2016 mennessä.
Opiskelijat, joilla on opinto-oikeus LUT:ssa, ilmoittautuvat
suoraan kurssin vastuuopettajalle 8.4.2016 mennessä.
Ilmoittautuneille lähetetään ennakkotehtävä, jonka suorittaminen
on edellytyksenä kurssille pääsylle. Kurssin vastuuopettaja

Opintojakson suoritettuaan opiskelija hallitsee perustiedot tieteenfilosofiasta ja hänellä on
apuvälineitä tieteellisten teorioiden ja tutkimusmenetelmien vertailuun ja arviointiin sekä
valmiudet liiketaloustieteiden tietoteoreettisen ja metodologisen keskustelun
ymmärtämiseksi. Kurssin kirjalliset työt suoritettuaan opiskelijalla on kattava tietämys
tieteenfilosofiasta ja hän osaa käyttää tätä tietämystä apuna oman tutkimustyönsä
perusteiden ja siihen liittyvän argumentaation arvioinnissa ja kehittämisessä.
Argumentaatio, tietoteoria, induktio ja deduktio, tieteenfilosofian pääsuuntaukset,
tieteellinen selittäminen ja tieteen etiikka.
16 h luentoja ja 16 h seminaarityöskentelyä sekä itsenäinen työskentely. Kurssi suoritetaan
joko a) osallistumalla kurssille ja tekemällä harjoitustyöt/esseet tai b) tenttimällä kurssin
kirjallisuuspaketti. Lukuvuonna 2015 – 2016 tentit järjestetään 8.10.2015, 28.1.2016 ja
7.4.2016 klo 16:15. Tenttiin ilmoittaudutaan opintotoimistoon vähintään viikkoa ennen tenttiä

Compulsory course in methodology and scientific theory studies
for all postgraduate students, and a compulsory prerequisite for
doctoral studies in business. The contact lessons will be
organised if a minimum of ten students enrol. Applicants without
a valid right to study at LUT apply through the open university by
8 April 2016. Students with a study right at LUT enrol directly to
the instructor responsible by 8 April 2016. Students enrolled will
be sent an advance assignment, which must be completed in
order to be able to take the course. The instructor responsible
selects the students for the course. The requirements for passing
the contact lessons are explained when the lessons begin. The
course will lectured in English, if needed.

monimuuttujamenetelmiä. Kurssilla tehdään runsaasti analyysiharjoituksia, joissa opiskelijat
voivat soveltaa opittuja menetelmiä omiin aineistoihinsa. Analyyseissa käytetään SAS- ja
LISREL-ohjelmistoja.

By the end of the course, students are expected to master different multivariate methods in
business administration. The course involves a number of analysis assignments in which
students apply the methods they have learned to their own material. The SAS and LISREL
software programmes are used in the analyses.

confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation models. The contents may vary annually.

The course aims to give doctoral students an understanding what science is, how scientific
research is conducted and how social, political, economic and cultural forces affect scientific
knowledge. In addition, the course provides doctoral students a comprehensive road map
that helps them to navigate through the dissertation process into the academic world.
The course consists of three parts: The first of deals with the nature of scientific knowledge
and the science as a social system. The second part examines how academic communities
are structured and how they operate. The third part examines the role of science and
technology in modern and post-modern societies, different modes of research, and national
and international science and technology policies.
Lectures 18 h.
Successful completion requires attendance in lectures, discussions based on lecture
literature, and two completed assignments: an interim report, which is a scientific
argumentation on a topic chosen by the student, and a final report, which is a scientific
critique examining topical questions related to science and research policies.
Moodle is used in this course.
