SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE
You bring out the best in
our six public schools.
The Mill Valley School District believes
in educating the whole child through
academics, social-emotional development,
physical education, and the arts. To achieve this balance, we rely on
a high-quality teaching staff, widespread community support, parent
engagement at each school, and an exceptional arts education made
possible by Kiddo!.
Each year, Kiddo! provides the funding for art, music, drama, dance,
and poetry. In the classroom, Kiddo!-funded aides help keep class
size ratios as low as possible to support differentiated learning,
while Kiddo!’s teacher grants and professional development
funding help teachers make the most of their instruction time.
Kiddo! also responds to critical needs brought about by changing
California public education standards. As a result, Kiddo! also
provides funding for technology hardware, software, and support
(including our district wide tech coach who works directly with our
teaching staff), library aides, and PE instruction to help promote
physical, mental, and social skills that deepen understanding for
our students and help them reach their full potential.

Parent support in the form of Kiddo!
donations allows students in all six of our
schools to participate in a diverse array
of enriching experiences that deepen
and expand their learning every year,
from Transitional Kindergarten through
8th grade.
As a result, our District develops well-rounded students who have
the qualities of critical thinkers and problem solvers, insightful
readers and skilled writers, accomplished artists, musicians, and
actors, capable mathematicians, astute scientists and historians,
and caring peers. With this broad foundation of knowledge, our
students are poised to continue their success into high school and
beyond, and contribute thoughtfully to our community.

Starting in May 2015, the Mill Valley
community came together to raise
$3.1 million for the arts and more in
the 2015-16 school year. We thank
you for your generosity and your
continued commitment to public
education in Mill Valley.
Your donations to Kiddo! make
it possible for over 3,200 kids to
experience school the way it was
meant to be: full of light and color,
movement and music, with many
meaningful opportunities for
students to grow and thrive, and
express their creativity.
We were fortunate to reach our last funding goal despite
lower-than-usual participation – just 70% of families gave
to Kiddo! in 2015, compared to 75% or higher in recent years.
With a new year, comes another opportunity to make a
difference. Our annual campaign kicks off on May 6, 2016,
with a suggested donation of $1,200 per child, to raise
$3.1 million needed to preserve essential programs,
teachers, and aides in our great schools for the 2016-17
school year.
We hope that you will join us again this year, at a level that is
appropriate for your family. Your commitment helps ensure
a complete education in all Mill Valley public schools.

Kick-Off for the 2016 Annual Campaign
to Fund 2016-17 School Year Programs
On May 6, Kiddo! will launch its 2016 Annual Giving
Campaign. The contributions you make in May will
fund the following in the 2016-17 School Year:
• Art and Music teachers and programs
• Drama, Dance and Poetry programs
• Technology, software and support staff
• Library and classroom aides
• TK-5 Physical Education teachers and programs
• Innovative teaching grants
