What is an Insulated Concrete Form (ICF)?
The Nudura ICF block is a stay-in-place concrete form comprised of two
panels of expanded polystyrene, joined with a polypropylene web for
strength and rigidity. This web also accepts reinforcing bar to strengthen
the wall system prior to pouring concrete. The result is a strong, energyefficient wall system.
Here’s How it Works:
Concrete footings are installed and leveled to within a
tolerance of +/- 1/4”. Step footings are set at the same
height of the block (18”) to minimize block fieldadjustment. The blocks are laid to the outline of the
building, marking any door openings onto the footer.
Horizontal reinforcing bar (rebar) is snapped into the web
at locations predetermined by engineering, or local building codes. The forms are stacked in a “running bond”
pattern, to strengthen connection.
Vertical reinforcing bar is inserted from the top of the
wall prior to concrete placement.
Window and door openings are “bucked” to form concrete
stops. Openings are reinforced to prevent bowing. Service
penetrations also installed. The entire wall is straightened and aligned with the Nudura bracing system. Concrete is placed or pumped into the wall cavity.
