Standby
In operate condition the "Virtual Class A®" circuit requires a
slightly higher idle current to operate than normal class AB
amplifiers, which means that the surface temperature of the
IA255B will reach 40-50Cº with no load, depending of the
ambient temperature. The high efficiency power supply will,
however, prevent further rise in temperature, even with a
substantial load. When the amplifier is not in use, it should be set
in standby mode. This is done by pushing the "STBY" knob. In
standby mode, the amplifier’s circuit is still active, but power
consumption is minimized.
When the amplifier is turned on from the mains switch, 2-4 hours
will pass before sound performance is optimal. From standby
mode this will take only 15-30 minutes. Push the "STBY" knob
again to set the amplifier in operate mode from standby mode.
However, when the amplifier is not used for one or more days, it
should be turned off at the mains switch to avoid unnecessary
power consumption.
Standby
I aktiv tilstand kræver "Virtual Class A®" kredsløbet en lidt højere
hvilestrøm end almindelige klasse AB forstærkere, hvorfor
overfladetemperaturen vil være 40-50Cº, afhængigt af
stuetemperaturen. "High efficiency" kredsløbet vil begrænse
yderligere temperaturstigninger, selv ved svære belastninger.
Når forstærkeren ikke bruges, bør den sættes i standby. Dette
gøres ved at trykke på "STBY" knappen på forpladen. I standby er
forstærkerens kredsløb stadig aktive, men strømforbruget er
minimeret.
Fra apparatet tændes på netafbryderen vil der gå 2-4 timer, før der
opnås optimal lydkvalitet. Fra standby tilstand vil der kun gå
15-30 minutter, før optimal lydkvalitet opnås. Fra standby kan
forstærkeren sættes i aktiv tilstand ved tryk på "STBY" knappen
igen.
Hvis forstærkeren ikke anvendes i én eller flere dage, bør man
slukke på hovedafbryderen, for at undgå unødvendigt
strømforbrug.
Source selector and volume control
The output level of the amplifier is shown in the left side of the
display (in db). When "0" is shown, no sound will be heard.
Maximum level is "79". Each click on the volume knob or one push
on the remote control will change output level by one dB.
Approximately 3 rotations of the volume knob will take the
volume from zero level to full level. The large adjustment range
makes it easy to fine tune the sound level.

The selected input can be changed by pushing the right side knob
briefly or by pushing the selector knobs on the remote control. The
tape out signal will be the line signal from the selected input. The
Pre out signal is the L/R signal taken after the volume regulation.
This can for instance be used when you want to connect to a
second power amplifier.

Lydstyrken reguleres med volumenknappen på forpladen.
Den aktuelle lydstyrke er angivet i dB i displayet. Når "0" er
angivet, er der skruet helt ned for forstærkeren. Når "79" er
angivet, er der skruet helt op. Det tager ca. 3 omdrejninger med
volumenknappen at ændre lydstyrken fra nul til fuld styrke. Med
dette store justeringsområde er det let at finindstille lige netop til
den ønskede lydstyrke.

Den valgte indgang kan ændres ved korte tryk på højre knap eller
selektor-knapperne på remotekontrollen.
Tape out signalet vil være signalet fra den valgte indgang.
Pre out signalet er L/R signalet efter volumenreguleringen og kan
f.eks. bruges til at tilslutte en effektforstærker i et andet rum.
Channel adjustments
By pushing the balance knob on the remote repeatedly, the left or
right channel can be selected and adjusted. When a channel is
selected the relative level - in 1 dB steps from -9 to +9dB - can be
adjusted with the volume control.
Subwoofer
There are two ways of generating a subwoofer signal:
1) Connect the subwoofer output, e.g. from a DVD Audio player,
to the "S" connector. And connect the "Sout" to the subwoofer.
The subwoofer signal is adjusted with the volume control and
channel balance can be adjusted by selecting "SU" under
channel adjustments, see above.
2) Connect the "SUBout" signal from IA255B to the subwoofer. No
channel balance is possible.
The implication of 1) is that a subwoofer signal only will be
generated if the DVD Audio/SACD player has bass management or
if a LFE signal is present from the source material.
In situation 2) the summed output signal from the L and R
channels is send to "SUBout", thus a subwoofer signal is always
present. But care should be taken with the subwoofer level and
crossover frequency to avoid "double bass". Eventually both "Sout"
and "SUBout" can be connected to the subwoofer, if it has two
inputs. Alternatively the "S" and "Sout" connector can be used to
control a rear center speaker in a 6.1 setup with an additional
external mono power amplifier.

Kanal justeringer
Ved at trykke gentagne gange på balanceknappen på remotekontrollen, kan venstre eller højre kanal vælges for
balanceregulering. Når en kanal er valgt, kan kanalbalancen
ændres ved at justere på volumenkontrollen.
Subwoofer
Der er to muligheder for at generere et subwoofer signal:
1) Tilslut subwoofer udgangen fra f.eks. en DVD-Audio afspiller
til "S". Og tilslut "Sout" til subwooferen. Balancen for
subwoofer signalet kan justeres som ovenfor beskrevet under
"Kanal justeringer" ved at vælge "SU".
2) Tilslut "SUBout" signalet fra IA255B til subwooferen. Her er det
ikke muligt at ændre på balancen.
I situation 1) skal man være opmærksom på, at der kun vil være et
subwoofer signal, hvis DVD-Audio/SACD afspilleren har "bass
management" eller et LFE signal er tilstede i programmaterialet.
I situation 2) bliver det summerede L og R signal sendt til
subwooferen, og dermed er der altid et subwoofer signal tilstede.
Men man skal passe på med subwoofer niveauet og delefrekvens
for at undgå "dobbelt bas".
Eventuelt kan både "Sout" og "SUBout" forbindes til subwooferen,
hvis denne har to phono indgange.
Alternativt kan "S" og "Sout" bruges til at kontrollere en ekstra
bagkanalhøjttaler i en 6.1 opstilling med en ekstra ekstern mono
forstærker.

Congratulations with your new amplifier.
IA255B gives you unique flexibility:
In two channel mode you can enjoy stereo music with a fully
balanced signal path, for a clean and detailed sound. And
because of the extremely powerful output stage with 2x 250W
even the most demanding bass transients are experienced with
full dynamic range.
In multichannel mode the sound is redirected to 5 speakers,
each with 100W power, thus fitting perfectly into your surround
sound or multichannel DVD-audio/SACD system.
IA255B is equipped with the advanced circuits from
Thule Audio: "High efficiency" and "Virtual Class A®".

Placement
Place the amplifier on a hard and flat surface. The ventilation
holes may not be covered. There has to be at least 20 cm (8
inches) clearance above the amplifier and at least 5 cm (2
inches) around the sides for adequate ventilation. Do not place
CD player or other equipment on top of the amplifier.
To ensure long and trouble free operation we recommend:
-Do not expose the amplifier to direct sunlight.
-Do not place the amplifier in warm or dusty environments.
Placering
Placer forstærkeren på et hårdt, plant underlag. Ventilationshullerne må ikke tildækkes. Der skal være mindst 20 cm
fri luft over forstærkeren og 5 cm fri luft i siderne af forstærkeren. Placer ikke disc-afspiller eller andet udstyr oven på
forstærkeren. For at sikre lang problemfri anvendelse af
forstærkeren bør følgende regler overholdes:
- Udsæt ikke forstærkeren for direkte sollys.
- Placering i varme eller støvede omgivelser bør undgås.
Connections
CD/DVD player, Tape, AUX and tuner are connected with
phono plugs on the rear panel. The balanced input is
connected with XLR plugs according to the IEC specification:
PIN 1: GND
PIN 2: +
PIN 3: You can connect either a surround processor or a DVD with
built-in surround decoder or DVD audio/SACD multichannel
outputs to the "multichannel input". Be sure to connect the
loudspeakers in phase: "+" to "+" and "-" to "-".
The mains plug must be connected to the mains voltage that is
specified on the rear panel.
Tilslutninger
CD/DVD afspiller, båndoptager, ekstra linieindgang (AUX) og
tuner tilsluttes med phonostik på bagpladen. Balancerede
kilder tilsluttes med XLR stik ifølge IEC specifikationen:
PIN 1: GND
PIN 2: +
PIN 3: Du kan tilslutte enten en surroundprocessor eller en DVDafspiller med indbygget surround dekoder til multikanal
indgangen ("multichannel input"). Højttalere kan tilsluttes med
gaffelkabelsko eller afisolerede kabelender indtil 4 mm2.
Højttalerne skal tilsluttes i fase. Der kan endvidere tilsluttes en
aktiv subwoofer til "SUB OUT" eller ”Sout”, se sidste side.
Netstikket skal tilsluttes den netspænding, der er trykt på
bagpladen.
Caution: The protection circuit will trigger if the amplifier is
short-circuited or if a load of less than two ohms is connected
to the loudspeaker terminals. The protection will continue to
trigger every one second until the low impedance load is
removed.
If either of the loudspeaker terminals are short-circuited with
the cabinet or the ground or signal cables, it can damage the
amplifier. Always turn off the amplifier when connecting or
removing loudspeaker cables or signal cables.
Caution: The loudspeaker outputs are balanced with two active
outputs per channel. Do not connect any equipment with
unbalanced input (e.g. some spectrum analysers or speaker
switch boxes).
Mains Switch
The light indication in the display state if the amplifier is
turned on. The amplifier is turned on by pushing "1" on the
mains switch on the rear panel.
The amplifier is equipped with a safety breaker contact placed
at the left side at the bottom. This safety breaker switch is
easily accessible from the front in case of an emergency.
Both the mains switch on the rear and the safety breaker
switch must be in "on" position before the amplifier is
turned on.
Bemærk: Kortslutning eller belastning med mindre end 2 ohm
mellem højttalerklemmerne vil aktivere beskyttelseskredsløbet.
Beskyttelseskredsløbet vil aktiveres ca. 1 gang i sekundet,
indtil den lave belastning fjernes. Forstærkeren kan tage skade,
hvis højttalerklemmerne kortsluttes til GND eller signalstik.
Derfor skal forstærkeren altid være slukket når
højttalerkablerne eller signalkablerne tilsluttes eller
afmonteres.
Bemærk: Højttalerudgangene er balancerede med to aktive
udgange pr. kanal. Tilslut ikke belastninger med ubalancerede
indgange (f.eks. visse højttaler omskifterbokse).
Netafbryder
Lysindikation i displayet fortæller om forstærkeren er slukket
eller tændt. Forstærkeren tændes ved at trykke "1" på
netafbryderen på bagsiden af apparatet.
Forstærkeren er endvidere udstyret med en sikkerhedsafbryder
placeret i venstre side på undersiden af apparatet. Denne
sikkerhedsafbryder er således nem at betjene fra forpladen og
kan f.eks. benyttes i nødsituationer.
Både hovedafbryderen på bagpladen og sikkerhedsafbryderen
skal være i "on" position før forstærkeren er tændt.
