aquarium Den Blå
Planet has entered into
an agreement with the utilities company SE Energi &
Klima whereby its electricity
will come from sustainable
sources, thus making the attraction CO2-neutral.
Increased awareness
DORTE Gleie, the head of
Den Blå Planet, explained
that as well as directly reducing its environmental impact, the move is part of the
aquarium’s aim to increase
environmental
awareness
among staff and visitors.

Immigration
The right-wing party
Dansk Folkeparti (DF) has
again raised eyebrows with
its immigration rhetoric.
DF’s deputy head Søren
Espersen has placed the
blame for the integration
problems in Denmark
squarely at the feet of the
immigrants themselves.
“The immigrants are to
blame. Those parents who
don’t want to learn Danish
even though they’ve been
here for 20-30 years and
have children who are bilingual. What is that?” he said.
“As an ambassador for nature, we are always striving
to minimise our burden on
the environment, and this is
a big step in that direction,”
she said.
“I’m very happy that we
will become CO2-neutral
with this agreement.”
Den Blå Planet is working
towards attaining the ISO
14001 certification for environmental management,
and it sees this agreement as
a milepost on that course.
Other adopted green initiatives include recycling rainwater and seawater from the
Øresund.

Øresund integration falling
L

POLITICIANS on both sides
of the Øresund are
pushing for more integration between Zealand and
Scania, potentially under
the banner of Greater Copenhagen.
But Öresundskomiteen,
the official platform for
regional political co-operation between the Danish
and Swedish regions, has revealed figures showing that
integration has fallen in the
past year.
Finn Lauritzen, the head

of Öresundskomiteen, said
that there was untapped
potential in further integration. “We need to do better,” he said. “The Øresund
region, with almost 4 million inhabitants, has huge
potential for creating jobs
and growth if the region
can be made into one job
market. But regional integration doesn’t happen on
its own – it requires investment in the region.”
Job market and housing
market integration have
fallen the most.
