Thursday, July 9, 7:00pm
Ever wondered what it’s like to be in
a play? This informal get together is
a way to find out what is involved
and how you can be a part of the
experience. From being an actor,
turning on the lights, gathering the
props and working on the sets, all
facets of creating an entertaining
evening for neighbors and friends
will be highlighted and explained.
We’re looking forward to a time of
sharing ideas and experiences. Director Jackie Fooks is available to
answer any questions you might
have about our get together. Call or
email her at (668) 688-8976 or
[email protected].

(LPC) and Footlights Grandchildren’s Weekend
July 17, 18, 19
We are looking forward to having
you and your grandchildren and/or
nieces and nephews join in a weekend of fun and activities. We begin
on Friday with waterslides and outdoor games for everyone. Saturday
morning is a time for “Grand Memories” (sponsored by Footlights) as
you play with your grandkids making special memories together that
will last through the years. We’ll
have a time for crafts, magic, singing and dancing too. There will be
pool time for children of all ages
throughout the weekend and a special kids movie that everyone
(young and old alike) will enjoy on
Sunday afternoon. In addition, we
are planning a scavenger hunt that
will challenge the older grandkids as
they see who finds the treasure first!
So whether you invite babies or
teens, we have something planned
for grands of all ages. Tickets for
the weekend are $15 per family.
We’ll have a schedule ready for you
when you buy your tickets so you
can make your plans. We have also
prepared a list of some places in the
community to go with kids. Tickets
will be on sale at Club Peachtree

These new forms will also make it
easier for the committee members
to make approval decisions. We are
excited about these new forms and
hope that you all can make it to this
educational seminar. If you would
like to attend, please register at the
front desk or online at
www.ClubPeachtree.net.

Lifestyle
Stan here! I’m happy to announce
that the Charter Club mailboxes
have been installed in Club Peachtree at the end of the hall near the
kitchen. I have met with club presidents to discuss how these new
additions can be an asset to the
lifestyle at SCP. We hope that the
mailboxes will be used in conjunction with Yapsody so that people
can register for a club event online
and then drop their payment off in
the hosting club’s mailbox. This procedure should alleviate some of the
burden charter clubs face when
trying to staff a ticket sales table in
the lobby. Ultimately, ticket selling
methods are decided by the club
hosting an event, so be sure to
check out e-blasts and Buzz articles
with more information so that you
don’t miss out on our great lifestyle!
check in the envelope. This mailbox
will be checked daily. Once tickets
are sold out, the mailbox will be
closed. This event is limited to 96
tickets so get your tickets early and
let the good times roll.

July 9, 9:00am to 11:00am
July 14, 9:00am to 11:00am
It’s time for the CAC Ice Cream Social. Tickets are $5 per person and
will go on sale at Club Peachtree
Monday, July 6. This will include an
ice cream sundae, a cupcake and
an evening of dancing and music
provided by Frank Holy. There are
only 120 tickets available for this
great summer event, so get your
tickets early.
Beginning July 6, you may also put

Neighborhood News
Lilac neighborhood hosted a block party in May themed red, white and blue with a special appearance by three
of the SCP Chip and Dales (thanks to Deb Piccone’s winning a raffle for one performance of her choosing. There
was great music, dancing, games and even remote control car races. All had a great time, which is usual in this
great neighborhood!
Resident Spotlight
Rose Torres
Rose Torres’ philosophy of retirement can be summed up in three words: “Just Do
It!” Ever since moving to SCP from Chicago in August 2014, she has jumped into
the active adult lifestyle with both feet, literally. Rose plays softball, pickleball, tennis and is gaining her confidence at the driving range before she dives into golf. In
her quieter moments, she even drops in on country line dancing.
She started searching for potential retirement communities before she turned 50,
after spending a 25-year career in the Chicago Police Department (CPD). Her tour
of duty went from walking a beat to working undercover in the organized crime
unit. “I learned a lot about the law,” she acknowledged. But her most satisfying
time in CPD was spent working as a detective in the Youth Division, which handles
cases involving missing persons, sex crimes, juvenile offenders, domestic violence
and child molestation.
SCP was the only community she actually visited, although her Internet research identified other Del Webb communities
in Illinois. “I had traveled through Georgia on my way to play in tennis clinics on Hilton Head and it always felt like home,”
she said.
When she isn’t involved in a match, tournament or game, she donates her time to the Calvin Center, which operates a
therapeutic riding school for Wounded Warriors and special needs adults. But it’s her love of horseback riding that has
led her to check off at least one box on her bucket list – to see the world on horseback. “I didn’t start travelling until I retired,” she explained. She’s completed riding tours in southern Spain; Donegal, Ireland, a safari on horseback in South
Africa (where she galloped side-by-side with giraffes), Israel and Morocco. Her next trip will be to Machu Picchu in Peru.
She said the reason she enjoys living in SCP is because, “It’s like a family, everyone knows you, people look out for you
and they actually care!”

The Peachtree Singers is a nonauditioned, four-part mixed chorus
open to all SCP residents. If you

someone who can read music to

with us for two or three rehearsals
to get a feel for this fun activity. You
can drop in to experience one of our
rehearsals to see what we are all
about.
Dog Lovers
No meeting in July or August
As we take the summer off from our
formal meetings we all continue to
use our wonderful park. Remember
that we must all work together to
keep it nice. Please continue to be
vigilant to keep dogs from digging.
Also, if your dog gets into the pine
straw around the trees, please use
the rake to replace it.
away from the gate to allow others
to enter.
At no time should an aggressive
dog be allowed into the dog park. If
the owner cannot control his or her
dog, someone should speak to
them and if they do not comply then
they should be reported to the HOA.
HOA management cannot be there
to monitor our park so it is up to us
to report violations of the rules.
The sign clearly states children under five are not allowed in the park.
While it may seem harmless to allow that, little children often do not
know how to react with dogs, and
their actions could create a reaction
from the dog that would harm the
child. Please do not attempt to bring
a small child into the park. If someone attempts to do so, politely ask
them not to. You could be saving
their grandchild from harm. No
child, no matter the age, should be
allowed into the dog park unsupervised.

Dog Park Tips:
As more people move to SCP, there
are more of us using the Dog Park.
When there are a lot of dogs crowding the gate it is sometimes intimidating for both the dog and the resident who are trying to enter. When
this happens, please move your dog

offerings that we’ve added a list of
these trips to our club web page so

Ahoy, Mateys! Spalding County Parks and
Recreation Goes the Extra Mile for SCP
Twice each week, on Thursday and Saturday at 1:00pm, a
hearty group of sailors travel from SCP to the lake at Wyomia Tyus Olympic Park in Griffin to race their radio-control
model boats. The 15 members of the Canvas Chair Radio
Control Sailors Interest Group used to wade into the mud
to steady their ships for an afternoon of racing. That was
messy, to say the least. But thanks to the marvelous cooperation of the staff of the Spalding County Parks and Recreation Dept., supervised by Supt. T.J. Imberger, our intrepid band of sailors now have a floating dock from which
to set sail. Imberger is the person who designed the dock
and he and his staff have worked closely with SCP sailors.
Dan Bookwalter, who co-chairs the group, said, “Building
us this dock is the number one wonderful project they did
for us. We are tremendously appreciative of their effort.”
If you don’t know much about sailing model boats, here’s a
nutshell explanation: For about half-an-hour the boats get
what Dan calls a “tune-up.” After that, with typically five to
seven boats in competition, a metronome is used to start
the race.
The term “race” is used sparingly. “It’s more of a stroll
since you can only go as fast as the wind allows,” said
Dan. Sailboat racing has become an attractive sport for
SCP residents. If you’re interested in a small-scale nautical experience, contact Dan at (678) 603-1103.
Also, of interest to “outdoorsy types,” Imberger said the
164-acre park has a 3.1 mile walking trail and they recently opened up a championship disc golf course which is
ranked seventh nationally. “We encourage all seniors to
sign up for the activities we have available at
www.spaldingparksandrecreation.com.”
Special Ed class needs: laundry detergent and dryer
sheets, dish soap, size six diapers and wipes, Clorox
wipes and diaper rash ointment.

HOA News
Clubs and Activities
Committee (CAC) Corner
The CAC is here to support the residents and listen to your suggestions. When you send your suggestion to CAC or if you are presenting
your suggestion in person at the
open forum, please complete the
suggestion form with your contact
information and a full description of
your suggestion, including a picture,
product details, pricing and if applicable, the location where the item
will be used or installed. These details will help speed up the recommendation process and proposal
submission to the HOA Board for
approval.
The deadline for submitting suggestions for review at the July CAC
meeting is Monday, July 6.
Submit your suggestion using the
form located at the suggestion box
in the former billiards area or email
your
suggestion
to
[email protected]. If you would
like to present your suggestion in
person, our open forum for July will
be held on July 13 from 9:00am to
9:30am. As a reminder, if you have
multiple residents supporting your
suggestion, we request that one
resident be the spokesperson to
present your idea at the forum. Others may attend the forum to offer
support, but please select one resident to lead the discussion with the
committee. We look forward to
hearing from you.
For all of our new residents who are
planning new exterior or yard projects, the ARC really encourages
you to read the Design Guidelines,
Annotated Guidelines and Helpful
Hints found on the Club Peachtree
website under Charter Committees,
Architectural Review and Modifications. The documents will be on the
right-hand side of the page. By
reading these informative documents, the homeowner will save
valuable time and possible headaches in the application process. If
you are ready to submit an application, go to the Club Peachtree site
and click on Documents and ARC
Forms to find the list of forms that
pertain to your project. Remember,
you can contact any member of the
ARC if you have questions regarding an upcoming project.
Property and Grounds
Committee (P&G)
Here are a few things every homeowner should know:
-- Spalding County will give sidewalk repairs and replacements
that involve safety hazards a
high priority.
-- Pulte plants common areas
with attrition designed into their
plans. Therefore a certain
amount of plants are expected to
die and will not be replaced.
-- Lights on our streets are the
responsibility of Spalding County
with EMC doing the maintenance and repair work.
-- Parking area lights are the
responsibility of our HOA.
Temporary Irrigation. The irrigation
(watering) of all vegetation (trees,
shrubs and turf) on a homeowner’s
property is the responsibility of the
property owner. In ground irrigation
systems are only installed and operated by the HOA around community
buildings and adjacent to the primary roadways. Irrigation of vegetation in common areas is the responsibility of the developer during the
plants’ establishment period, however, this is only temporary. Once
the vegetation is established, the
developer will disconnect the water
supply.
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee welcomes
its newest member, Shirley Bridges.
She led a team of more than 2,000
technical professionals and consultants. She managed an operating
budget of $400 million and a capital
budget of $140 million. She will be a
great asset to the committee.
Architectural Review
Committee (ARC)
In the very near future, the ARC will
be bringing a new project submission process to residents who plan
to submit applications for exterior or
yard projects at their home (see
story on page 3). This process will
make it easier for the homeowner,
as well as the ARC, to submit and
get approval for these new projects.

The Annual Sun City Peachtree
Tennis Tournament was held from

advanced players, which provided
an opportunity for participants to
play with partners they probably had
never played with before.
For this doubles tournament, men’s
and women’s divisions each featured nine teams. This was a double
elimination tournament, so those
who lost in the first round had a second opportunity to play. In this format, the team that won all of its
games played against the team that
had won all but one of its games.
Richard Lopez and Larry Lewellen
(undefeated) outlasted Al Lucarini
and Bob Gaps to win the men’s final. The previously undefeated Michelle Drugacz and Kathie Callen

matches were close. The Tennis

To: SCP Softball Members
Fall Softball Season Registration Begins July 1
I want to extend my huge appreciation
to all of you for making the 2015 Spring
Softball season the success it was.
Without each of you individually, and all
the members collectively, the success
of the season would not have been possible.
Current players just need to fill out the form and return. There are no dues
to pay. New players fill out the form and return it with your $30 dues. You
can drop off the form in the softball mailbox at Club Peachtree or in the
bird box at 128 Dahlia Dr. Download the form from the softball page on the
Club Peachtree website.
For all the managers, thanks for the outstanding job of getting your teams
where they needed to be on time and
ready to play in a professional matter.
For the players and umpires, thanks for
doing your job in a professional manner
in order for the games to run smoothly.
Veterans Day Softball Game
All veterans at SCP are invited to join us for a Veterans Day softball game.
Current softball players and non players are all welcome. We are in the
planning stages, so if you are interested in playing or helping, please contact Carey McRae, SCP Softball Commissioner, at [email protected].
For the volunteers that helped with getting all the items set up and broken
down for each game, I want to thank
you again for your outstanding work.
For our announcers Frank Holy and
Nick Nickerson, thanks so much for being there this season, even in the cold
weather, to get this year off to a fantastic start. What a great job you did!
For all the people in the background
who helped make this season possible,
thanks.
We had a great season at the ballpark
and are looking forward to the start of
the fall season.
While I am thanking everybody, thanks
to the scoreboard operator and the
scorekeepers for braving the elements
and keeping everyone straight.
Congratulations to the 2015 SCP Softball spring champions:
Purdue Paint & Body Shop.
Thanks again to Doug and his crew for
getting the bleachers up and ready for
