Zoorasia Yokohama Zoological Gardens
This park is divided into 8 areas
including the African Savannah, which
fully opened in spring of 2015 and the
Oceanarian Grassland. Here you can see
over 110 species of animals including
okapi (cousin of the giraffe), cheetahs, giraffes, and many others.
With plenty of restaurants and cafes, this park spanning over
40 hectares offers plenty of things to do and see for an entire

TOKYO SKYTREE opened in May of 2012 as a
free-standing broadcast tower and tourist attraction.
The tower is located in the area formerly known
as the Musashi region. At a height of 634 meters,
the tower was recognized by the Guinness Book of

Mishima Taisha Shrine
Though the actual period of construction
is unknown, the venerable Mishima Taisha
Shrine has been recorded in books dating
back to the Nara and Heian periods. The
shrine palace is designated as a cultural
asset, and the large osmanthus tree in the shrine is registered as a
National Natural Treasure. The Mishima Summer Festival is held
in conjunction with the Reisai festivals during August from the
15th through the 17th. On the last day of the Reisai, the Yabusame
performance is held in which horse-back archers fire arrows at targets
as a form of ceremony. This event attracts many visitors every year.

Izu-Nagaoka Hot Spring
This expansive park features
f ive dif ferent zones with
enough activities and fun for
the whole family to enjoy
throughout the day. One of
these zones, the Kids Kingdom,
includes playgrounds, the Rainbow Pond with a depth of
nearly 50 cm, cycling on oddly shaped bicycles, mini-putt
golf, animal petting, and pony riding. The park also includes
restaurants and food shops offering take-out food.
At Izunagaoka, the gateway into
Izu, you will find over 30 hot spring
resorts where you can spend time
with Geisha performing Japanese
dances or playing the Shamisen.

Shuzenji Hot Spring
Otaki-machi is surrounded by lush and
beautiful nature. The Yoro Ravine in
Otaki is an especially popular tourist
attraction. The area has many hiking
trails and offers a different yet satisfying
experience f or every sea son. The
area also boasts historical landmarks
representative of Japan such as Otaki Castle, ryokans
founded during the Edo period, and breweries and storefronts
registered as tangible cultural properties. You can also ride in
a rickshaw through a planned course. Note that participation
requires making a reservation in advance.
This hot spring area boasts
over 1,200 years of history and
includes over 20 hot spring
resorts. Special seasonal events
are held for the enjoyment
of visitors. Enjoy a nice stroll
in the morning through the
Bamboo Forest Path. Any of
the hot spring spas are also a great destination for a day trip. Other
nearby points of interest include Shuzenji, Japanese Gardens, and Nijino-sato that features the Canadian Village replica village among others.

Narita is perhaps most famous
for the Narita Shinshoji Temple
endowed with over 1,000 years
of history. More than 10 million
people visit the temple annually.
A variety of events are held at
the temple including the Kaiun
Yakuyoke Saito Great Goma
Ceremony/Gomagi Kigan/Ascetic Training on Fire event held at the
end of September and the Gagaku Concert held on the third Sunday
of each October. Simply walking along the approach to the temple
is an awe-inspiring experience. Here is where you can also enjoy the
wonderful eel dishes the area is famous for. Narita is also well-known
for its Narita International Airport, one of Japan's main gateways to
the skies. In recent years, the airport has increased the number of
domestic flights to better serve non-international travelers as well.

Mount Takao, with a three-star rating
from Michelin Travel, is located in a
quasi-national park about 50 minutes from
Tokyo. There are three mountain-climbing
trails. You can also reach the summit by
taking the cable car from Kiyotaki Station
to Takaosan Station. Either route will take
you to the summit in about 90 minutes.
Some points of interest near Takaosan
Station include Monkey Park featuring
over 60 monkeys, and Wildflower Garden, where you can see nearly
300 different types of wildflowers throughout the different seasons.

The Great Buddha
and Kotoku-in
This Kamakura Great
Buddha is 13.35 meters
in height including the
pedestal. We know that
construction started in
1252, but the date of
completion; however,
is unknown. This
Great Buddha was
apparently destroyed
by typhoons and

earthquakes. As one of
the three Great Buddha statues in Japan, this Great Buddha seems to
have different facial expressions depending on changes in the natural
surroundings. Other nearby destinations include Hase-dera Temple
and Ugafuku Shrine. Why not take a trip to Hase-dera Temple and
give Shakyo (tracing the sutras) a try?

Enoshima has many
attractions and
destinations that
many people come to
visit on the weekends.

the Enoshima Sea
Candle lighthouse, the
symbol of Enoshima,

Eastern and Western styles merge. The nearby Enoshima Aquarium
is also a popular destination with its dolphin shows and Jellyfish
Fantasy Hall where you can see captivating exhibits of jellyfish in

Aqua World Ibaraki Prefectural Oarai Aquarium
In 1874, a brick lighthouse 32 meters in
height was built in Inubosaki. You can see
a magnificent view of the sea at the top of the spiral staircase
of 99 steps. The Inubosaki Marine Park boasting nearly 230
species of 2,500 marine animals is also nearby. The dolphin
show held four times per day is popular and enjoyed by both
adults and children. The "Hilltop Observatory where the Earth
Looks Round" is a 15-minute walk from the station. Here you
can see an amazing 360-degree panoramic view of the area.
This is one of the Japan's largest rose
gardens featuring over 1,500 varieties
of roses covering the grounds that span
30,000m². The Keisei Rose Garden has been
awarded the ‘Award of Garden Excellence’ by World Federation of
Rose Societies in Lyon 2015. You can also purchase your favorite
roses at the neighboring Garden Center. The original rose perfume
(eau de toilette) is also a very popular souvenir item at the garden.
The best season for viewing the roses is early summer and autumn.
This aquarium breeds more than 50 species
of sharks, the most of any other aquarium in
Japan. You can see the display of many sunfish
swimming in the largest sunfish tank in Japan.
Other popular attractions include the dolphin
and sea lion shows as well as the opportunity
to watch penguins and capybara having a
meal. Enjoy the entire day at Aqua World
Ibaraki Prefectural Oarai Aquarium.

Zojo-ji Temple
Zojo-ji, one of the seven main temples
of Jodo shu, was completed in 1393
and served as the family temple of the
Tokugawa family. The path from the

Daiho Hachimangu Shrine
Construction of this shrine began in 701 AD, which is the oldest known
Hachimangu shrine in the Kanto region. The shrine palace is registered
as a national cultural asset. The Tabanka Festival held in September
is one of the more unique festivals in the area. This festival is an
enactment of how the priests and novices extinguished a fire that broke
out using tatami mats and large wooden lids used for traditional rice
kettles. The festival booms with the sound of
Taiko drums while evoking feelings of heroism.

Shibamata
This area in downtown Tokyo full of kindness
and warmth is where "Tora-san", the main
character from the "Otoko wa Tsurai yo (It's
tough being a man)" series, became famous on a nationwide scale. This
area is also known as the temple town to Daikyoji Temple, also known
as Shibamata Taishakuten Temple, founded in 1629. Taishakuten is
the merciful Buddhist ruler of gods. It is also said that he monitors the
behavior of man and their committal of errors. If you visit Shibamata,
make sure to pray to Taishakuten before enjoying the area's famous
Kusa Dango and eel dishes.

At 3,776 meters above sea level, Mt. Fuji was registered as a World
Heritage Site in 2013. There are four different routes available to
climb the mountain, which can take anywhere from 4 hours 30
minutes to 7 hours 20 minutes to reach the summit. You can take a
bus as far as the fifth station on Mt. Fuji. There at the fifth station,
you can find a large tourist area that includes rest areas, restaurants,
and souvenir shops.

Steam Locomotive 96 Museum
The Class 9600 steam locomotive is distinctively representative of
the Taisho period. These locomotives were affectionately known as
"Kyuroku (96)", and it is from this special moment in history that
this museum is named. This steam locomotive is one of the exhibits
in the museum, where it continues to leave a proud and magnificent
impression. On Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, the Class 9600
steam locomotive runs three times per day using air compression.

Yunishigawa Hot Spring
This legendary hot spring said to heal wounds
was discovered by refuges of the Heike clan
after being defeated during the battle of Dannoura. During January through March when the area receives a fair
amount of snow, 1,200 or so "Mini Kamakura (snow houses)" are built
along the river. These mini snow houses are illuminated creating a

Tomioka Silk Mill
The Japanese government first
established this government-owned
silk mill in 1872 to help with the
modernization of Japan. With the
ultimate goal of exporting high-quality
silk, this mill was established as a model

style silk-reeling machines to foster productivity and train instructors
on technique. Production ceased in 1987 as a result of low demand for

Mt. Akagi, Akagi Hot Spring [Takizawa Fudo Falls]
Mount Akagi is a collection of mountains
featuring Mount Kurobi, which is the
highest point of this mountain at 1,828
meters. At the top of the mountain is
a crater lake known as Onuma Lake.
Kakumannfuchi is a high moor beside the
lake where visitors can see rare alpine plants. There are hiking trails
that take 2-3 hours to travel and enjoy different experiences in each
season. In addition to these features near the summit, a trail at the
foot of the mountains also passes by the 32 m Takizawa Fudo Falls.

Steam Locomotive Paleo Express
This popular steam locomotive runs on a one-roundtripper-day schedule between Kumagaya Station and
Mitsumineguchi Station primarily on the weekends. This
steam locomotive was once used in the Tohoku Region.
The 57-kilometer path takes around 2 hours and 40 minutes
to traverse and offers breathtaking views of the nature in
Chichibu. The train consists of four cars
with reserved seating in one of the cars.

Inonagawari Ruins
These ruins were discovered in
1969 during the construction of
the Inokashira Elementary School.
Located in Sakura City in northern Chiba, the ruins consist
of late settlements and shell mounds from the Jomon period.
Remains of dwellings, tombs, storage holes, earthenware,
stoneware, stones, clay, and soil has been excavated from
the circular embankments. These remains have helped us
to understand what villages were like at that time and so
were registered as a National Historic Site in 2005.

Shimoda Coast
The various coastal areas of Shimoda
City surrounded by beautiful nature
all have their own unique and
interesting characteristics.

Taketori Park
The old town of Nagareyama Honcho still remains
and is the birthplace of white mirin cooking
sauce. Historic buildings such as storehouses from
the Meiji period have been reincarnated as the
Kaleidoscope Gallery, cafes, restaurants, and other interesting places. The
town also features many other tourist attractions including the Issa Soju
Memorial Hall, an area where the famous Haiku poet Issa Kobayashi once
stayed, as well as the ruins of the camp of Isami Kondo, the commander
of the Shinsengumi samurai. In the evening, the area is decorated by the
scenic paper-cutout lanterns which delicately light the area.
This park is said to be the birthplace of
the "Taketori Monogatari (The Tale of
the Bamboo Cutter)", which is the oldest
tale in Japan written around 900 AD. A tasteful promenade
has been established among the bamboo forest. Princess
Kaguya returns to the moon at the end of the story, but
the story told here at the park presents a different ending.
Wander through the Take Torizuka, Shinju-no-Take, Kokushino-Niwa, and Suikinkutsu and relive this wonderful tale.
