We would like to welcome you to the 2008 All That Glitters
“Treasure Chest Sale” at Highwood Auction on September
20, 2008. You will find that we are sharing proven herd sires,
young junior herd sires and herd sire prospects. As well we are
offering brood cows from the heart of the herd, bred heifers from
the replacement pen and fancy heifer calves. The last eight
years in the Canadian beef industry with drought and the BSE
impact has led most Canadian herds to be culled extremely hard
and we are no exception with the quality through out the herd
being at its highest level ever. Northern Legend 3N and his
sons Rising and Regal have excelled in producing the type and
performance we are looking for. As well our new sires Muridale
Jolt 44S and Alta Cedar Sherman 7S bring some new blood
lines to the herd while maintaining the type and performance we
demand. We invite you to look through our Treasure Chest on
sale day and we are sure you will find some select animals that

We guarantee 6 transferable embryos. Half down at the sale and balance after completion
of flush. Costs of flush are to be paid by the buyer. We will deliver the flush cow to one of
these recognized embryo transplant facilities, Bova Tech, Alberta Embryo or Davis Rairdan.
Flush to take place in the spring of 2009 after calving. We will supply semen from one of

We are pleased with the fact that these bred yearling heifers have been developed on
strictly grass and hay, raised by their dams with no creep feed they were wintered on hay
and have spent the breeding season on pasture. The one exception is the Agribition show
heifer. In this day and age with the rising cost of grain the ability to perform on grass and
hay is a very important trait. Imagine how they would look in a show pen.

Every lot in the sale is either TH free or from TH free parents (with the exception of Lot 38
results pending and she will only sell if TH free status is received before the sale.)
PHA status. We have only at this point done PHA testing on our current herd bulls and all
were PHA free. Northern Legend 3N, Diamond Regal Legend 4R and Diamond Rising Legend 1R, Diamond Captain Mark 27C are all PHA free. To our knowledge there are no PHA
carriers in the background of any of the animals in our herd.

Here is a bull that does it all. We first used Regal as a yearling on heifers because of his birth
weight along with his overall thickness and style. He did not disappoint and we used him on cows
and heifers as a two year old and this year he bred a large portion of the mature cows. Regal was
Reserve Senior Champion bull at the 2007 Regina Agribition Show where he had one of the highest
marbling scores of the bulls ultra sounded. Regal had a marbling score on the Igenity test of 7. His
dam is eleven and is raising a full brother to Regal this year and we have a full sister to Regal
going into the herd. Have a look at his daughters in the sale. One of his daughters Diamond Uptown Susan 2U was recently Champion Heifer Calf at the Olds Junior Show for Caitlyn Matthews. At
Millarville 2U was Champion in the Junior show for Caitlyn and Heifer Calf Champion and Grand
Champion Female in the open show. We are selling full possession and 1/2 semen interest.

Here is a fancy Regal daughter that will make a great brood cow but could have a pretty good
show career first. Diamond Clipper Harriet 5H goes back to a great cow we bought in the Rothney
dispersal and this Clipper family was one Sandy Cross got from Scotsdale. Like her sire she has a
light birth weight but is smooth and thick. This is a sweet calf that should be going back in the herd.

Regal sires them with strong tops and style and this fancy heifer is one of the thickest. She is a maternal sister to Diamond Temperature Rising 28T, a junior herd sire at the Diamond. A maternal sister, Diamond Baroness 51R, is one of our top young brood cows owned with Y Lazy Y Shorthorns,
Corvalis, Mont. This calf has as much potential as any we have sold.

Here is chance to buy the semen rights to a bull that could become a breed leader. We have some
of his first calves on the ground and the first one born sells as Lot 5. We will keep Jolt for a walking bull but felt he has a lot to offer the breed. He is deep thick and heavy fleshed and never

We are offering some pretty powerful herd sires in the sale and Sherman is just starting his career.
He is the service sire on almost the entire yearling heifers offered. Two of his first heifer calves sell
as Lots 7 and 8. Sherman is a son of Tank and his dam is a maternal sister to Tank making him line
bred to the illustrious Alta Cedar Lilian 88G. Sherman is smooth, long and thick. Both Sherman and

We wanted to offer some great bulls and we all agree that Rising Titan is one. There are some here
that wanted him to stay and will no doubt have the opportunity to say “I Told You So” when his first
calves arrive here next spring. His dam is a great daughter of Mandalong Super Flag imported
from Australia by our brother in law and sister Gary and Terry Carter in the early seventies. Frimley
Nyla Clare 14N demonstrates how ahead of his time Super Flag was as she is a greatly admired
cow in our herd. Her dam was a daughter of another Australian bull Broome Quality and one of the
best HS Instant Enticer cows. Rising Legend’s calves are very popular and with his background Titan
should also make a great sire and offers an outcross to many of today’s bloodlines.

The Diamond Breeding Program...
The Stephenson family has had Shorthorn cattle since the breed started in England in the 1700’s. In 1907, Jasper Stephenson moved to Cayley, Alberta from Northumberland, England where his family had Shorthorn cattle. Jasper started a purebred Shorthorn herd in 1918 called Newbiggon. In 1965 his son Herb and wife Billie established the Frimley herd. In1976
Dan Stephenson’s portion of the herd continued under the Diamond prefix obtained from Cecil Staples at the time of his
herd dispersal. Many of the females in the Diamond herd trace to the Staples herd and all to the deep red 1650 lb. foundation cow, Rockville Clipper 4G , an amazing cow for the 1950’s. All of the Dottie’s and May’s in the current Frimley and Diamond herds trace to this brood matron. Rockville Clipper 4G herself traces in the maternal line back to Scotland to Amos
Cruickshank’s Sittyton herd and one of his foundation cows Clipper by Billy born in 1845. We strongly believe in the
strength of top cow families and the newest Clipper descendents today offer useful genetics for today’s breeding programs.
A great foundation cow may not be the most popular show cow of her time like Beauty (30) a main foundation cow of
Canadian shorthorns, thousands of descendants have been registered from this female. In our herd the Clare and Baroness
families trace to Beauty (30) and over the many changes in fashion continue to do what cows should, produce top cattle
consistently every year. We have utilized top herd bulls from across Canada (Nova Scotia, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta
and BC) as well as from Kansas, South Dakota, Idaho, Indiana and Montana. Add to this the influence of the imported Australian bulls Mandalong Super Flag and Mandalong Royal Ferrari in the seventies and again more recently. We believe in
using the top sons of these bulls in the herd stacking our pedigrees with great cows like Diamond May 5th, Diamond Windy
Dawn 14R, Frimley Amethyst Susan 7M, Gafa Captains Rosebud Dolly, Cactus Flat Clare 11C, Elite Butterfly 3G to name a
few. Some of our female lines trace 10 or more continuous generations in their flow. Our sire lines are also built in this
manner stacking top brood matrons in the herd they flow continuously in a direct line of descendants to offer consistency
and predictability. The cattle in this sale offer some unique blood lines that when crossed with many of today’s current blood
lines should give you an outcross with predictable results.
