our Amenity and Landscape Catalogue
Landscape and
Amenity Catalogue
2014 - 2015
Introduction
We are delighted to be able to present you with our new, and all inclusive, Landscape
and Amenity Catalogue; it has been a long time in the making! Wyevale Nurseries has
under gone some major restructuring in the last 18 months, bringing three companies
in to one. As part of the restructuring we have brought our sales teams together and we
have been delighted to welcome on board Adam Dunnett who has joined us as Sales and
Marketing Director. Adam brings with him considerable nursery, sales and marketing
experience and I know Adam would welcome your comments, views or questions on our
range or service. (Adam can be contacted on [email protected] or mobile
07768 747647).
This catalogue contains our complete range: trees, transplants and container shrubs/
herbaceous. We hope you find this all inclusive approach of benefit. The objective of
our catalogue has been to make it an easy to use working document, with prices that
represent realistic market rates.
We would be delighted to welcome you to Wyevale Nurseries whenever you are
in the area. Wyevale Nurseries prides itself on consistent high quality in all
our ranges. We don’t profess to be the cheapest in the market, but we do
believe we are market leaders in range and quality and as such our plants
represent really good value. Anyone can print a catalogue, very few can
offer over 3,000 lines grown on site which match or in most cases exceed
the national plant specification. Please come along to see for yourself.
I look forward to meeting you in the near future.

We can now offer the ‘one-stop-shop’ for the amenity landscaping and

container grown trees, transplants and container grown hardy nursery

trading partnerships with growers in the UK (many of them local to Hereford) as well as a few
European nurseries.

Ensuring the stock you have ordered arrives to the agreed

Supply Chain Service Levels
How is stock delivered?
Most container grown shrubs and herbaceous are delivered in cardboard sleeved pallets, which are
packed carefully by the experienced amenity despatch team to ensure your plants arrive in good
condition in a cost effective way. Larger pots and taller stock may be loose loaded on the lorry.
Bare root hedging transplants are mostly bagged. Larger orders are delivered on Dutch style pallets,
smaller orders are loose packed in their bags. We can deliver on Danish Trolleys if required, and
the sales team will be able to give you a price upon request.
Trees are generally delivered loose, secured on curtain sided trailers. We generally use our own
transport or partner hauliers, but we can use pallet line (for container grown stock) if this is the most
appropriate solution.
What is the order to delivery lead time?
In the main season we aim for a maximum of 7 working days. The most important thing to us,
is to deliver your plants to you on the day required, we have a very responsive and flexible supply
chain to help ensure we achieve this.
Is there a delivery charge?
All the prices within this catalogue are ex nursery prices. We do not aim to make a profit on our
delivery charges, but we do add a delivery charge to all deliveries. Delivery charges are based on
distance, order value and volume, with preferential rates given to regular customers. Customers will
be informed, by the sales team at time of quoting, about any delivery charges that will apply.

Field Grown and
Container Trees
Field grown trees have been part of Wyevale’s heritage from the very
beginnings of the company in 1928 and we have been growing trees in fields
around Hereford ever since. Trees are at the very heart of our business, core
to our overall range.
Chris Mason and his team are passionate about growing the highest
quality tress in Europe and visitors are always welcome to come and
walk our tree fields to see this for themselves.
Our tree range is selected specifically to meet the needs of the
landscape amenity markets. There are over 150 varieties listed in
this catalogue and every one of those has to earn its place in our
fields. Within the 350 acres we have over 125,000 field grown
trees, offering the ‘must haves’ such as Pyrus Chanticleer, Alnus
glutinosa, Quercus robur, Betula pendula, Sorbus aucuparia,
& Carpinus betulus; but within the key genus we have selected
varieties which may not be widely available, but which we feel
should be seriously considered. Carpinus betulus ‘Lucas’ is a
superb upright form of Hornbeam with excellent leaf colour.
Betula pendula Select is a recent introduction with impressive
stem colour and an upright, pyramid habit. Sorbus commixta
Olympic Flame has the most incredible autumn colours and with
a lovely columnar habit.
In more recent times we have set up a container grown tree nursery.
We grow trees in 15ltr to 300ltr tree bags in over 70 varieties. All our
container grown trees are grown peat free. With the demand for top
quality container trees on the increase we have grown an additional
20% for the 2014/15 season.

Multi Stems
True multi stem trees can often be difficult to find and it takes time, knowledge and skill to produce
top quality multi stems. Our range and numbers increase each year, but we still seem to sell out
before the end of the season! Each one is an individual and so please discuss your requirements with
our sales team who will be happy to advise and tag specific trees if this is required.

Hedging and Screening
We have pulled out all the lines which could be used as hedging or screening and created a
specific section within the catalogue. As an integral part of nearly every design, we are growing an
increasingly large range of this type of ‘tree’, grown to a specification to meet the requirements and
ensure they are fit for purpose; rather than you having to ‘make do and mend.’ Please talk to our
sales team if you have a particular requirement, the chances are we will have something in our fields
to match it.

Hedging and
Forestry Transplants
We are a well established nursery, boasting over 20 years experience in producing top quality
field grown native shrubs, trees and hedging plants. We pride ourselves on being one of
Britain’s foremost providers of bare root, field grown plants, catering to your individual
needs whether they are landscaping, forestry or agricultural industries, local authorities or
private landowner.
Our extensive range of stock originates from native sourced seed where possible or is
produced in the form of hardwood cuttings from our own grown material.
We have a dedicated nursery team with ample experience to assist with any
enquiries regarding planting or aftercare. We also stock a range of plant
protection products to aid establishment if required.
Plant Specifications.
At Wyevale we adhere to the National Nursery Stock Specifications as
published by the Horticultural Trades Associations.
To specify a bare root transplant is the most efficient way of ordering
planting material; no pot, no peat, no heat, just plants in their basic form
produced outdoors, hardy as nature intended. More than this, to specify
transplants in the height range 30cm through to 100cm allows planting of
material easy to handle and carry to site, quick to plant and on most sites,
not requiring expensive staking.
What age to specify? In most cases a 2 year old plant 40-60cm or 60-80cm,
height is the best choice. A 1+1 transplant is the staple norm, 1u1 gives a
slimmer, straighter plant. 1+2 a stocky bushier plant. Plants grown from
hardwood cuttings rather than seed are given the rather perplexing term
0/1 or 0+1 to indicate age, in this example one year old.

Combating Climate Change – a role for UK forests
An independent report of this title to the ‘Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’ suggests
that a 4% increase in woodland cover in Great Britain would reduce the nett UK carbon
emissions by 10%. To achieve this we need to plant some 23,000 hectares per year for 40 years.
Whether you are planning on planting a hedge, shelter belt or woodland it all helps towards this
target.

General recommendations are that Hawthorn hedging is best planted in a double row 25cm (10
inches) apart, 30cm (12 inches) apart within the rows (i.e. 6 plants per metre length of hedge).
However, using our robust 1+1 transplants this planting density can be reduced by one third.

We stock the following key sundries to assist safe
establishment of your newly planted transplants:
In association with ‘Plantworks’ we can offer a British-sourced mycorrhizal fungal inoculant;
‘Rootgrow Professional’. Applied by us at the point of packing as a gel root-dip. Gel protects roots:

Choosing a hedge mix
Two broad categories of hedging exist:
1. Rural Hedging
Generally a native hedge mix is used in farm
and estate hedges or where attracting wildlife is
a prime consideration. Examples of some rural
hedge mixes are listed below.

Hedging and Forestry Transplants
If you are planting a rural hedge, don’t forget to include a few other appropriate species; hedges
look best when mixed. For ideas we suggest Cornus sanguinea (Common Dogwood) or Malus
sylvestris (Crab Apple). Why not put in a few native hedge climbers; Rosa canina (Dog Rose) and
Lonicera pericylmenum (Honeysuckle) these will give that rustic look. When planting trees, don’t
forget Britain’s rare native Populus nigra betulifolia (Black Poplar), you will create a tasty legacy by
including Juglans regia (Walnut) or Castanea sativa (Sweet Chestnut). Consider an under storey of
shade tolerant shrubs such as Corylus avellana (Hazel) and Ilex aquifolium (Holly). Most of all, you
own your planting; let it reflect your choice and enjoy it.
Container
Grown Hardy
Nursery Stock
We are very proud of our container shrub and herbaceous division,
70 acres, growing over 1.5 million plants annually in 1litre to 10 litre.
We have over 1,000 varieties listed within this catalogue and we add
to this on a regular basis.
Many nurseries claim to offer a complete A-Z, few truly do. We know
how important the one stop shop is to our customers and so we try to
ensure that our A-Z is exactly that.
All our plants are grown to The National Specification Standard
as a minimum specification and we aim to significantly exceed this
minimum. Our shrubs contain 18 – 24mth osmocote (long release
fertilizer) to help ensure they establish well when planted.
We offer all the key landscape and amenity varieties, and where
they exist, improved varieties, these may cost a little more, but the
benefits may justify that extra few pence.e.g. Geranium Johnsons
Blue, always popular but Geranium Rozanne which is a much more
vigorous can be planted at twice the planting distances, reducing the
overall planting costs. Griselinia littoralis Green Horizon and Prunus
laurocerasus Novita are both much stronger forms than the straight
species.
Contract growing is something our production team specialise in, we
enjoy working with customers to produce a specification and range
which meets exacting requirements and with longer planning lead
times, production efficiencies allow us to offer very competitive prices.
Please contact our sales team to discuss in more detail.

Terms and Conditions
1Price
1.1 The price quoted excludes VAT, delivery, packing, insurance
and other taxes or duties (unless otherwise stated). Rates of
tax and duties on the goods will be those applying at the time
of delivery.
1.2 Any quotation we issue is open for acceptance for 30 days
from the date of quotation and is subject to availability (unless
otherwise stated).
1.3 Unless otherwise stated, the price quoted is an illustrative
estimate only and the price charged will be our price current
at the time of delivery.
1.4 At any time before delivery we may adjust the price to reflect
any increase in our costs of supplying the goods.
2Delivery
2.1 Although we make all reasonable efforts to effect delivery in
accordance with prearranged dates, such dates are estimates
only and time shall not be of the essence.
2.2 If we fail to deliver within a reasonable time, you may (by
informing us in writing) cancel the contract, however:
2.2.1 you may not cancel if we receive your notice after the goods
have been dispatched; and
2.2.2 if you cancel the contract, you can have no further claim
against us under that contract.
2.3 If you accept delivery of the goods after the estimated
delivery time, it will be on the basis that you have no claim
against us for delay (including indirect or consequential loss,
or increase in the price of the goods).
2.4 If for any reason you fail to accept delivery of any goods
when they are ready for delivery, or you request us to delay
or withhold delivery, or we are unable to deliver the goods
because you have not provided adequate instructions, we
may:
2.4.1 treat the goods as having been delivered on that day (for the
purposes of risk, inspection and payment); and
2.42 charge you for the storage, additional husbandry or redelivery
of those goods.
2.5 We may deliver the goods in instalments and in any sequence.
Each instalment is treated as a separate contract.
2.6 We may decline to deliver if:
2.6.1 we believe that it would be unsafe, unlawful or unreasonably
difficult to do so; or
2.6.2 the premises (or the access to them) are unsuitable for our
vehicle.
2.7 If you are collecting goods from us you are responsible for
the size, weight and positioning of any load on your vehicle
and must ensure that your vehicle is sufficiently equipped to
enable safe loading.
2.8 You must provide appropriate equipment and manual labour
for unloading the goods at the delivery point. If our delivery
vehicle is kept waiting for an unreasonable amount of time, is
obliged to return without completing delivery or if we provide
additional staff to unload goods an additional charge will be
made.
2.9 Where we deliver goods in returnable containers, the
containers must be empty when made available for collection.
We reserve the right to either not collect containers containing
rubbish or waste material (including packaging and pots) or to
collect them and charge you for the disposal of the contents.
3Risk
3.1 The goods are at your risk from the time of delivery.
3.2 Delivery takes place either:
3.2.1 when the goods are loaded at our premises (if you are
collecting them or arranging carriage); or
3.2.2 when the goods are unloaded at your premises or address
specified by you (if we are arranging carriage).
3.3 You must inspect the goods on delivery. If any goods are
damaged or not delivered, you must telephone us within two
days of delivery or the expected delivery time, and write to
confirm your claim within five days of your initial notification.
You must give us (and any carrier) a fair chance to inspect the
damaged goods. If you fail to notify us in accordance with
these requirements, you will not be entitled to reject the goods
and will be deemed to have accepted the goods in accordance
with the contract.
4
Payment terms
4.1 You are to pay us in cash or in cleared funds prior to delivery,
unless you have an approved credit account.
4.2 If you have an approved credit account, payment is due
within 30 days of the date of our invoice unless otherwise
agreed in writing.

4.3.3

suspend or cancel future deliveries;
cancel any discount offered to you;

Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998;

Act to cover our credit control overhead costs; and
4.3.5 recover (under clause 4.7) the cost of taking legal action to
make you pay.
4.4 If you have an approved credit account, we may withdraw it
or reduce your credit limit or bring forward your due date for
payment. We may do any of these at any time without notice.
4.5 You do not have the right to set off any money you may claim
from us against anything you may owe us.
4.6 While you owe money to us, we have a lien on any of your
property in our possession.
4.7 You are to indemnify us in full and hold us harmless from all
expenses and liabilities we may incur (directly or indirectly
including financing costs and including legal costs on a full
indemnity basis) following any breach by you of any of your
obligations under these terms
5Title
5.1 Until you pay all debts you may owe us:
5.1 1 all goods supplied by us remain our property;
5.1.2 you must store them in suitable conditions and so that they
are clearly identifiable as our property;
5.1.3 you must insure them (against the risks for which a prudent
owner would insure them) and hold the policy on trust for us;
5.1.4 you may use those goods and sell them in the ordinary course
of your business, but not if:
a. we revoke that right (by informing you in writing); or
b. you become insolvent.
5.2 You must inform us (in writing) immediately if you become
insolvent.
5.3 If your right to use and sell the goods ends you must allow us
to remove the goods.
5.4 We have your permission to enter any premises where the
goods may be stored:
5.4.1 at any time, to inspect them; and
5.4.2 after your right to use and sell them has ended, to remove
them, using reasonable force if necessary.
5.5 Despite our retention of title to the goods, we have the right to
take legal proceedings to recover the price of goods supplied
should you not pay us by the due date.
5.6 You are not our agent. You have no authority to make any
contract on our behalf or in our name.
6Warranties
6.1 We warrant that the goods:
6.1.1 comply with their description on our order confirmation
form; and
6.1.2 are free from damage at the time of delivery (as long as you
comply with clause 6.4).
6.2 We cannot guarantee that the goods will be free from
infection, infestation or disease, or that goods supplied are
not of a type known to be poisonous or of a type having
injurious, hazardous or irritating properties unless this has
been specified in your order.
6.3 We give no other warranty (and exclude any warranty, term
or condition that would otherwise be implied) as to the quality
of the goods or their fitness for any purpose.
6.4 If you believe that we have delivered goods that are in breach
of our warranty you must:
6.4.1 inform us by telephone within two days of the defect
becoming apparent and write to us within five days or your
initial notification to confirm your claim; and
6.4.2 retain any packing and provide us with full details of the type
and species of the goods; and
6.4.3 allow us to investigate (we may need access to your premises
and or ask you to return goods to us for examination).
6.5 If the goods are found to be in breach of our warranty
(following our investigations), and you have complied with
those conditions (in clause 6.4) in full, we will (at our option)
replace those goods with similar goods, tend any damaged
goods or credit the value to your invoice.
6.6 We cannot accept liability in respect of any defect arising

from weather, accident, failure to tend or failure to follow
our instructions.
We are not liable for any other loss or damage (including
indirect or consequential loss, financial loss, loss of profits or
loss of use) arising from the contract or the supply of goods
or their use, even if we are negligent.
Our total liability to you (from one single cause) for damage
to property caused by our negligence is limited to ten
million pounds (or the appropriate amount of insurance we
have in place when the contract is performed).
For all other liabilities not referred to elsewhere in these
terms our liability is limited in damages to the price of the
goods.
Nothing in these terms restricts or limits our liability for
death or personal injury resulting from negligence.
Specification
If we grow the goods in accordance with your specifications
or instructions you must ensure that:
the specifications or instructions are accurate;
goods grown in accordance with those specifications or
instructions will be fit for the purpose for which you intend
to use them; and
your specifications or instructions will not result in the
infringement of any intellectual property rights of a third
party, or in the breach of the Plant Varieties and Seed Act
1964 or any other applicable law or regulation.
We are not responsible for the performance or suitability
of goods grown in accordance with your specifications and
instructions.
We reserve the right;
to make any changes in the specifications of our goods that
are necessary to ensure they conform to any applicable
safety or statutory requirements; and
to substitute any type or species where the substitution does
not materially affect the characteristics of the goods and
where the substituted goods are of equal or superior quality
to those originally specified.
Any description, illustrations, figures as to performance,
drawings, weights and dimensions contained in our
catalogues, price lists or advertising material are illustrative
only and will not form part of the contract between us.
The goods naturally vary in shape and size. We may supply
individual items which vary from any specified dimension
by up to 20%. However, we will try to ensure that the total
weight of the goods delivered is as you ordered.
8
Return of goods
8.1 We will accept the return of goods from you only:
8.1.1 by prior arrangement (confirmed in writing);
8.1.2 on payment of an agreed handling charge (unless the goods
were defective when delivered); and
8.1.3 where the goods are as fit for sale on their return as they
were on delivery.
9
Export terms
9.1 Where the goods are supplied by us to you by way of export
from the United Kingdom Clause 9 of these terms applies
(except to the extent that it is inconsistent with any written
agreement between us).
9.2 The ‘Incoterms’ of the International Chamber of
Commerce which are in force at the time when the contract
is made apply to exports, but these terms prevail to the
extent that there is any inconsistency.
9.3 Unless otherwise agreed, the goods are supplied ex works
our place of manufacture.
9.4 Where the goods are to be sent by us to you by a route
including sea transport we are under no obligation to give a
notice under section 32(3) of the Sale of Goods Act 1979.
9.5 You are responsible for arranging testing and inspection of
the goods at our premises before shipment (unless otherwise
agreed). We are not liable for any defect in the goods which
would be apparent on inspection unless a claim is made
before shipment. We are not liable for any damage during
transit.
9.6 We are not liable for death or personal injury arising from
the use of the goods delivered in the territory of another
State (within the meaning of s.26 (3) (b) Unfair Contract
Terms Act 1977).
10Cancellation
10.1 You may not cancel the order unless we agree in writing
(and clauses 2.2.2 and 10.2 then apply).
7.5
10.2 If the order is cancelled (for any reason) you are then to pay
us for all stock that we may then hold (or to which we are
committed) for the order.
10.3 We may suspend or cancel the order, by written notice if:
10.3.1 you fail to pay us any money when due
(under the order or otherwise);
10.3.2you become insolvent;
10.3.3you fail to honour your obligations under these
terms.
11 Waiver and variations
11.1 Any waiver or variation of these terms is binding in honour
only unless:
11.1.1 made (or recorded) in writing;
11.1.2 signed on behalf of each party; and
11.1.3 expressly stating an intention to vary these terms.
11.2 All orders that you place with us will be on these terms (or
any that we may issue to replace them). By placing an order
with us, you are expressly waiving any printed terms you
may have to the extent that they are inconsistent with our
terms.
12 Force majeure
12.1 If we are unable to perform our obligations to you (or
able to perform them only at unreasonable cost) because
of circumstances beyond our control, we may cancel or
suspend any of our obligations to you, without liability.
12.2 Examples of those circumstances include periods of
inclement weather (including storm, freezing temperatures,
or excessive heat), act of God, accident, explosion, war,
terrorism, fire, flood, transport delays, strikes and other
industrial disputes and difficulty in obtaining supplies.
13General
13.1 English law is applicable to any contract made under these
terms. The English and Welsh courts have non-exclusive
jurisdiction.
13.2 Any dispute arising out of the contract must be referred
to the arbitration of an agreed arbitrator, or, failing that,
an arbitrator appointed by the Chartered Institute of
Arbitrators.
13.3 We are contracted to you as principal and will not accept any
instructions from any agent of yours, including architects,
specifiers, and landscapers unless those instructions are
confirmed in writing by yourself.
13.4 If you are more than one person, each of you has joint and
several obligations under these terms.
13.4 If any of these terms are unenforceable as drafted:
13.4.1 it will not affect the enforceability of any other of these
terms; and
13.4.2 if it would be enforceable if amended, it will be treated as so
amended.
13.5 We may treat you as insolvent if:
13.5.1you are unable to pay your debts as they fall due; or
13.5.2 you (or any item of your property) become the subject of:
a.
any formal insolvency procedure (examples of which
include receivership, liquidation, administration, voluntary
arrangements (including a moratorium) or bankruptcy);
b.
any application or proposal for any formal insolvency
procedure; or
any application, procedure or proposal overseas with similar
effect or purpose.
13.6 All brochures, catalogues and other promotional materials
are to be treated as illustrative only. Their contents form no
part of any contract between us and you should not rely on
them in entering into any contract with us.
13.7 Any notice by either of us which is to be served under these
terms may be served by leaving it at or by delivering it to
(by first class post or by fax) the other’s registered office or
principal place of business. All such notices must be signed.
13.8 No contract will create any right enforceable (by virtue of
the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999) by any
person not identified as the buyer or seller.
13.9 The only statements upon which you may rely in making
the contract with us, are those made in writing by someone
who is our authorised representative and either:
13.9.1contained in our estimate (or any covering letter) and not
withdrawn before the contract is made; or
13.9.2which expressly state that you may rely on them when
entering into the contract.
13.10 Nothing in these terms affects or limits our liability for
fraudulent misrepresentation.
