INTERNATIONAL MASTER BIKE BUILDERS ASSOCIATION
Jacksonville. Florida – Jeff Starke, IMBBA President announces a venue and date change for
the IMBBA International Cup Competition.
Originally set to take place in Quebec April 2012 has been changed to Sturgis, S.D. during the
72nd Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
“The show will now be part of the most famous and largest motorcycle rally in the world. With a
competition of this magnitude and bikes of this quality, it is fitting that we hold the show at a
venue where hundreds of thousands of people can potentially see these world class bikes for the
first time anywhere!” said Jeff Starke.
Starke continues to say, “After much deliberation with the committee in charge of the show in
Canada, the IMBBA Board of Directors decided to change the venue. We all felt it would be
mutually beneficial to all parties to do so. It was not an easy decision, but it is what is best for the
builders who have worked so hard to build these bikes, the IMBBA, and the promoter of the
show in Canada. The show will continue on as it has in the past bringing you some of Canada’s
very best builders as they showcase their talents. IMBBA will proudly continue to support that
great show any way we can.”
Moving forward, IMBBA International has entered in to a partnership with the AMD World
Championship of Custom Bike Building held in Sturgis during the rally in August. The
IMBBA International Cup will now be known as the IMBBA International Qualifier Class. This
will yield the IMBBA International Champion and will be qualified under the same rules of
being a bike never seen before and the builders representing their country

As an added bonus to the IMBBA International Builders, the IMBBA will pay for the entry fee
so that these bikes can simultaneously compete for the undisputed World Championship under
AMD rules and classifications.
Move in date for the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building is August 4, 2012 and
the show is opened August 5 – 8, 2012.
The IMBBA would like to thank everyone that worked so hard to make things happen in Canada.
We sincerely thank you for the efforts put forth. “Our Canadian industry associates absolutely
delivered on everything they said they would do, but it was just not meant to be.” said Starke.
Starke added, “We sincerely apologize to anyone feeling slighted in Canada by this decision.
That was certainly not our intention in making this move. However, it is the best move for the
builders who spent their time and resources to compete as well as the promoter of the show and
IMBBA International.”
All IMBBA Sponsors are welcomed to contact Joe Distefano at
[email protected] for further details, comments, or questions.
IMBBA International Cup Builders should contact Jeff Starke
at [email protected] for further details on the revised competition.

Country Representative.
“Marc has been an
IMBBA member since
2007 and comes to us
with decades of
experience in
motorcycle industry
management and
custom bike building.
This among other aspects of his career makes him a perfect fit for this position. Most of all, he
shares the IMBBA philosophy of “leaving the industry better than we found it”, says Jeff Starke,
IMBBA President.
Starke continues, “We welcome Marc with open arms and look forward to working with him to
continue the good work in Canada done by Master Builder, Bob McKay. Last, but certainly not
least, we sincerely appreciate everything that Bob McKay has done to move the International
Master Bike Builders Association forward during his time as country representative. We also
look forward to a continued working relationship with Bob as a member of IMBBA Canada.

IMBBA judges always make themselves available after the show!
Because of this, IMBBA comes across several questions which require
answers.
The questions vary but are ALL common from show to show. First and
foremost, what can I do to improve my bike? What areas of my bike can I improve upon to
get better scores?
IMBBA judges talk about the importance of knowing the trade’s professional practices. For
example, sheet metal and fabrication, all IMBBA courses reflect and hold builders to the
industries standard practices and expect the builders to show physical evidence and knowledge
of the trade. This applies throughout IMBBA judging from electrical, plumbing, hydraulics,
paint, engineering, hardware and nomenclature. When IMBBA helps builders it is to direct them
to the right source for information and training and must meet the Fit, Form, Function and Safety
standards.
Scoring by IMBBA judges start or end here by each category or attribute of the bike. Builders
you must demonstrate a through knowledge of these skills to receive the top points.
Another common concern / question - What class should my bike be in? Why am I placed in
that class?
IMBBA uses a standard of 12 classes all published on IMBBA’s website. While, IMBBA does
not control the promoter’s class parameters, we do rely on our professional expertise to
determine the proper placement as set by the show owner. Obviously, a competitor can always
call IMBBA before hand and ask for assistance to determine which class you can get the best
results from. We’re always glad to help!
The best guide is IMBBA published Judges course – an excellent tool for builders to
understanding the scoring processes by which their bikes are judged. You can purchase the
course on line.. http://www.masterbikebuilders.com/onlinecourses.html

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
Jacksonville, Florida- Another year comes to an end. I am
very optimistic as we move forward into 2012. IMBBA made
some major leaps ahead when we partnered with AMD and
moved its International Cup Competition from Laval Canada to
Sturgis, SD during the 72nd Annual Sturgis Bike Rally. The
IMBBA specific part of the show will be known as the
“IMBBA International Qualifier Class”. As expected, much
debate continued on as a result of this decision. The bottom-line is that the decision rested on my
shoulders. In order to accomplish the mission of IMBBA to hold builders up in favor globally, the move
to Sturgis and partnership with AMD was the only logical choice.
An equally important part of our mission is to gather all the training and educational material to compose
courses of study for aspiring high school students, and post secondary students can learn the art of custom
bike building. A huge part of this effort is thanks to the Chopper Institute of America, Doug Hall
president. The LMS, (learning management system) is now on line and will begin providing students,
builders with an open source to their points, certifications, resumes and be a valuable aid to employers.
Our sponsors have also been instrumental in helping IMBBA make this a reality. By offering builders
and members who take the aftermarket courses incentives to use their products, the aftermarket
companies are realizing that an educated consumer is the best customer…….and the public (end users)
are realizing the value of having educated technicians install those products on their ride.
Finally, I’d like to say thanks to our country representatives for their devotion and hard work to further
the IMBBA mission in their respective countries. Thank you one and all.

GETTING CERTIFIED?
What is meaning of IMBBA certification?
While a certificate / piece of paper, a sewn badge, and rocker are
cool, it is nothing compared to the knowledge and ability the
person that holds and possesses these items.
IMBBA, through its sponsors, builders, promoters and all who
elect to use a professionally trained judging staff at their shows
are now considered the yardstick by which all others are measured. IMBBA uses this opportunity
to judge the bike on its merits and award points. The competitor faces a professional group of
experienced builders / judges where the bike judged based on the evidence of Fit Form, Function
and Safety. Only IMBBA Certified Judges are qualified to make the call!
IMBBA begins the certification process by placing all builders, mechanics, fabricators, engineers
and the like in the proper level based on current levels of education, training, ability, and general
practices of the trade as recognized by IMBBA.
From there, we awards points for degrees of certification, and points for other industry awarded
accomplishments. The amount of time in the industry is also a major consideration, but once
certified, potential employers and customers are ensured that a third party unbiased has looked at
your work, education, training, experience, and time in the business and certified the individual
as such. This creates THE global standard by which we all can be recognized.
IMBBA certifications are now in 13 countries and growing. To become certified visit IMBBA
international website. www.imbba.com

Lawrenceville, GA. - IMBBA member, builder, Kevin Baxter, on December 29, 2011
after a visit to his facility in Lawrenceville, GA., his company, called Pro Twin.
Conducted training to IMBBA member Roberto Favre from Italy along with IMBBA
President, Jeff Stake, demonstrating his latest product that has over ten years of
development in the fuel injection, tuning and troubleshooting using his software that
literally replaces the need for a dyno. This software revolutionizes the industry and
empowers the professionals to troubleshoot, and repair fuel injection systems along with
accurately tuning and adjust even front and rear cylinder attributes. That ability would
rival any tuner using a dyno. Kevin, along with his assistant IMBBA member Del McCue,
work diligently towards refining their new location. Kevin will join the growing network of
IMBBA motorcycle instructors who provide their expertise to students of high school,
and post secondary school, programs supported by IMBBA. This summer, Mitchell Tech
in Mitchell, SD will host for the first time aftermarket products training. The after market
industry needs professional experts in their trade to pass along the education and
training while creating the necessary
documentation for others to learn the trade.
IMBBA is impressed with the results that
Kevin has pioneered. This software
promises to reduce the costs of a dyno
while creating a fool proof methodology by
which a tuner, mechanic professional can
obtain results with out the high costs of a
dyno.

Maltsberger, IMBBA motorcycle instructor
announced that they will open their doors this

industry. An educated and trained professional in aftermarket products is a value to
these companies but more over to the customers who seek to purchase their products
and have to trust their local mechanic has the wherefore to install properly.” said IMBBA
President, Jeff Starke.
This coming summer before Sturgis, builders and students will be able to attend multiple
aftermarket products courses and receive points and certifications resulting in rewards
