GPS/GIS Data Collection and Entry – Stormwater and Public Utility Systems
Summer Internship 2017
The City of Midwest City, Oklahoma, is searching for undergraduate or graduate students
in Geography or related sciences to conduct GPS (global positioning satellite) and other
forms of data collection and GIS data entry of the City’s stormwater and public utility
systems as seasonal employees during the summer of 2017.
This work will be performed for the City’s Public Works Department’s Stormwater Quality
Division under the direction of the Community Development Department’s GIS Division.
Responsibilities
 Collect data using a Trimble GeoHX GPS unit.
 Interpret data received and troubleshoot data collection problems.
 Work with GIS Coordinator to download and assess data.
 Perform data entry into the City’s GIS.
Requirements
 GPS and/or GIS experience (either classroom or field) preferred.
 Must be at least 18 years of age.
 Must possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license and be insurable. Selected interns
will need to provide the City with a copy of their driving record.
 Must be able to pass a physical examination/drug screen.
 Ability to walk improved and unimproved drainage channels while carrying GPS
equipment.
 Ability to read and understand a data conversion specification and GPS unit
instructions.
