SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2012
P. 2 JOINING FORCES SUARA COOPERATIVA
JOINING FORCES
strengthens us as
a cooperative
We're aware of the situation around us, of the transformations occurring in
society and legislation in these uncertain times. And this affects us but the
1,918 people of Suara face this daily reality with courage and we try to change it,
striving to weave a project in which we all play our part. Because we know that,
by joining forces, we are stronger as a cooperative.
MIQUEL MORÉ I MATEU
Chairman of the Board of Directors
Our values are our great points of reference; they guide us and demand to be
translated into our day to day work. That's how we want to define our future.
Close to people, to organisations, to the reality of society. Socially responsible
towards the environment, reinvesting our company's profits. Democratic,
transforming our organisational model into a relational network, broadening
the involvement of people in this shared enterprise. Innovative, committed
to change and creativity in ideas, projects, approaches to respond to new
circumstances and new challenges.
SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2012 JOINING FORCES P. 3
Once again we're presenting the sustainability
report of Suara Cooperativa. This publication
summarises the work carried out in 2012 in
terms of finance, society and the environment,
in constant collaboration with all our
stakeholders.
2012 has also been a year of great internal changes which I would like
to point out: the Board of Directors has been partly renewed and the
General Management replaced, we've changed our organisational model,
increased our activity and continued to grow in terms of members, now
totalling 838.
We've not done this alone but accompanied by other people, projects
and organisations because we want to grow together, and this makes us
feel more confident, weaving alliances and relations to advance together
towards the future.
I'd like to repeat, on behalf of all members of Suara, our commitment to
those we serve, to those we have dealings with and to our clients. We
thank you for the trust you place in us.

ORGANISATION
Suara changed its organisational model in
2012, adopting a network approach to ensure
an efficient response to any needs arising.
Each of the direct care services forms the core of the activity and is directly
supported by each of the cooperative's areas.
The Members' General Assembly, the highest decision-making body
of the cooperative, forms the framework for the structure of Suara. The
Board of Directors, made up of nine members, represents the interests of
the Assembly and deals with the General Management of Suara.

private and public clients that appreciate
the management of the services
provided by the cooperative. In 2012,
the clients' degree of satisfaction was 8.5

PUBLIC PROMOTION
COLLABORATIVE WORK
In 2012, both the general and specialist media published
50 hits mentioning Suara. Some of the most outstanding
issues were the setting up of the Intermedia Foundation
(jointly owned by the IReS Foundation, Surt Foundation
and Suara Coooperativa), the formation of the cooperative
Connecta (together with the Sant Gervasi Cooperative
School) and the renewal of Suara's General Management.
Suara's inter-cooperative work is translated into alliances with
other firms and organisations to promote joint projects:
• Clanser. Joint venture with Suara to provide home care on behalf
of Lleida Council.
• Connecta Cooperativa. A grade two cooperative set up by the
Sant Gervasi School and Suara to carry out training.
• Intermedia Foundation. Promoted by the Surt Foundation, IReS
Foundation and Suara Cooperativa to act as an employment
agency.
• IReS Foundation. Joint venture with Suara to manage the Font
de la Pólvora Day Centre in Girona.
• Suplá. Agreement with Suara for projects involving very young
children.
• Surt Foundation. Joint venture with Suara for the CIRD Project by
Barcelona Council.
• VAS Association (Socio-educational Action Volunteers).
Promoting social volunteering.
Suara also raised its profile by attending at seminars and
congresses in 2012, as is the case of “Future challenges of
cooperative movement” (University Abat Oliva CEU) and
the Menéndez Pelayo University in Santander, among
others.
In 2012 Suara's corporate website was also renewed,
receiving 24,000 visits every month on average, the same
number as the previous year. Suara's social networks were
also consolidated on Twitter (933 followers) and Facebook
(332 fans), as well as content channels (Flickr, Vimeo and
YouTube) and Suara's corporate blog.
TRAINING FOR
PROFESSIONALS
Suara sees training as a value that key to ensuring its
professionals provide quality services. In 2012, 473
work experience agreements were signed with the
following universities:
National University of Correspondence Education (UNED)

Pompeu Fabra University (UPF)
Rovira i Virgili University (URV)
University of Barcelona (UB)
University of Girona (UdG)

significant investments being made and the decision
to update some of the assets to their market value. At
31 December 2012 there was a considerable increase in
current assets compared with the previous year, caused
mainly by the rise in available cash, demonstrating a very
healthy financial situation.
At 31 December, equity had increased by 2,842 thousand
euros compared with the previous year, due mainly to the
increase in contributions from members, from the reserves
to reinvest surpluses and profit from the current year.
Debts with credit institutions basically correspond to the
funding for the investments made. At 31 December 2012,
the Cooperative education, training and promotion fund
(FEPC) totalled over 1,832 thousand euros, resulting from
the agreement of members to allocate part of the profit to
these funds.

Suara remains faithful to its commitment to
raise environmental awareness in various
aspects. Consequently, in all the centres where
the cooperative's activities are carried out, the
Resource Efficiency Guide is applied to reduce
the impact on the environment and spread
good practices related to the services it provides,
especially in relation to mobility, energy
consumption and waste management.

The aim of this work is to minimise travel
by working remotely. Suara is also clearly
committed to using public transport and
shared vehicles, planning trips to avoid
areas of congestion, among other actions.
In 2012, the use of low consumption
vehicles helped to reduce expenditure on
fuel in spite of an increase in the number of
kilometres travelled.
In spite of the fact that attending to people
has very little impact on the environment,
all Suara's offices and services throughout
the region are committed to reducing
waste and preventing contamination.
Consequently, among other actions,
workshops are held on recycling materials
and waste is selectively sorted before
being disposed of.
Responsible electricity consumption in
2012 led to a fall in expenditure on this
area.

Although water consumption is not
significant in Suara's activity, we're also
working to reduce this as we believe that,
as a scarce resource, water should be used
responsibly. The same policy of savings is
applied to paper consumption, based on
the Resource Efficiency Guide.
