2. OUR STATE
Tripura is one of the eight sisters states in the North Eastern region of India located between 22o56' N and
24o32' N and between 90o09' E and 92o20' E. It is surrounded on the north, west, south and south-east by
Bangladesh and in the east it has a common boundary with Assam & Mizoram.
The former princely state of Tripura was ruled by Maharajas of Manikya dynasty. It was an independent
administrative unit under the Maharaja even during the British, as the paramount power, of each successive
ruler. After independence of India, an agreement of merger of Tripura with the Indian Union was signed by the
Regent Maharani on September 9, 1947 and the administration of the state was actually taken over by the
Govt. of India on October 15, 1949. Tripura became a Union Territory without legislature with effect from

November 1, 1956 and a popular ministry was installed in Tripura on July 1, 1963. In January 21 , 1972
Tripura attained statehood.
It is a state of mixed population. Besides Bengalis & Manipuris there have been 19 main tribal communities with
their own rich cultural heritage. The main languages spoken here are Bengali & Kokborok though English &
Hindi knowing people are also found in plenty. It has excellent opportunity for Tourism with places of interest.
Folk Dances of Tripura speak its rich cultural heritage.

3. OUR COLLEGE
3.1 The Tripura Medical College & Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital is situated at Hapania, West Tripura about a distance
of 7 km away from the heart of the capital city of Agartala & 1.5 km away from Agartala Railway Station. It is well connected with the
city by road transport. The area is free from noise, overcrowding and pollution.
The 1st batch of MBBS students was admitted in 2006 after obtaining permission from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare,
Government of India on recommendation of M.C.I .The hospital , classrooms and laboratories are well equipped. Sports facilities including
gym are available for the students. All faculties together with technical & non-technical staff are devotedly working to promote the
College & Hospital to the nation's standard. A well equipped Central Library with a space of 1600 sqmt. and more than 10,000 books is
one of our assets. All departments have separate libraries. The faculties here already have a number of research publications to their
credit within the short time of the existence of this institution.
On detailed inspection and reviewing the performances of the Institution, the MCI has issued ’’Letter of Permission” for
opening PG courses (MD/MS) in the disciplines of Pharmacology, Pathology, General Medicine & ENT and all ready started
from the academic session 2013-14.

The Medical College is equipped with the latest scientific equipments & teaching aids. There are separate hostels for both boys &
girls and residential accommodation for the Faculties & other essential staff.
3.2 AFFILIATION & RECOGNITION :Tripura Medical College has been granted permission by Medical Council of India (MCI) and by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare,
Government of India, New Delhi. It is affiliated to Tripura University (Central), Agartala.
3.3 ACADEMIC PERFORMANCES :From the very first examination, the academic performance of our students are examplary. The results are always good. Our
students occupied many meritorious positions including 1st position in the MBBS final Examination for the past consecutive years
under the Tripura University (Central) Agartala.

4. OUR TEACHING HOSPITAL
This is a full fledged hospital named after the illustrious Dr. B.R.Ambedkar. The hospital is situated in the same
complex with the college having all necessary clinical departments including 24 hours Casulty / Emergency
services and well equipped special clinics. The special units namely ICU (Intensive Care Unit), SICU (Surgical
Intensive Care Unit), Medical ICU, Ortho ICU, have 50 additional beds. Central Oxygen supply is maintained
round the clock in the hospital wards and the ten major operation theatres. The bed occupancy rate in the
hospital is about 75%.

The hospital has an average daily OPD attendance of about 800 patients.
Round the clock Pathology, Biochemistry & Microbiology investigation facilities are provided in the
hospital from its central laboratory.

5. ADMINISTRATIVE SET-UP
Tripura Medical College & Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital is managed by the Society for
Tripura Medical College & Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860.
The Governing Body is the decision making level for proper running and development of the Institution.
The Health Secretary, Govt. of Tripura is the Chairman of the Governing Body of the Society.
The Chief Executive Officer is looking after the day to day administrative management of the Institutions under
the Society.
For day to day academic purposes, Principal is assisted by the Teachers Council of the College.
6. ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR MBBS COURSE (2015-16)
As per direction of Hon'ble Supreme Court, the Govt. of Tripura (vide Notification number F. 8 (7)-HFW / 2005 /
4207-21 dated 10th February, 2012) constituted a Permanent Committee headed by the Hon'ble Justice Mr. A.
B. Pal (Retd.) to oversee the fairness & transparency in respect of admission process in MBBS Course in
Tripura Medical College & Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital. The said Committee's decisions for the academic
session 2015-16 are as under :-
6.1. Distribution of seats :i.
Total seats for MBBS admission in TMC are 100 (one hundred) only, out of which the distribution
position will be as under :
a. Tripura State domiciled cadidates : 80 (eighty) seats.
(applicable Tripura State Reservation Policy)
b. All India other than Tripura State domiciled candidates : 20 (twenty) seats.
(applicable Central Reservation Policy for ST, SC and Others)
6.2. Eligibility Criteria :As per Medical Council of India (MCI) Amendment Notification No.MCI-34(1)/2010-Med/32962
dated 7-10-2010, a candidate who passed (10+2) H.S. or equivalent examination and in the subjects of
Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology and English individually with a minimum of 50% marks taken
together in Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology at the qualifying (10+2) Higher Secondary or
equivalent Examination shall be eligible for submitting application for Entrance Test.
However, for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes, the minimum marks to be
obtained in Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology taken together in qualifying Examination shall be 40%
and it would be applicable also for the candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes for All India Category
seat, but not for the Tripura State domicile category.
The candidates who have appeared in the (10+2) Higher Secondary or any equivalent qualifying
Examination in the year 2015 are also eligible to appear in the Entrance Test pending declaration of the result.

A candidate must have attained the age of 17 yrs on or before 31 December of the year of the application.

Date of birth as recorded in Pass certificate of 10 standard/Madhyamik/10+2 Higher Secondary or equivalent
Examination shall be accepted for the purpose.
All admissions are subject to verification of the original certificates / documents produced by the candidates.
Regarding the eligibility of any applicant, the decision of the Committee constituted by the Medical College Authority as
per the MCI guidelines shall be final.
All admissions are subject to medical fitness of the candidate. Admission will be denied to candidates if found
medically unfit.
6.3. Method of selection :Under supervision of the Permanent Committee, ENTRANCE TEST will be conducted with the eligible candidates.
On the basis of the Entrance Test Examination results, two common merit lists (one for Tripura State domiciled candidates
and other for All India other than Tripura domiciled candidates) shall be prepared for selection of candidates on merit only.
For convenience, each such merit list may be split into separate merit lists for general and reserved category students.
Explanation:- The total marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology / Biotechnology in the Entrance Test
shall be the basis for determining rank of a candidate in the merit list.
But the candidate must secure 50% marks [40% in case of Scheduled Tribe / Scheduled Caste and Other Backward
Class (only for All India other than Tripura State domiciled category)] in the Entrance Test to be qualified of admission.
For determination of rank in the merit list where more than one candidates obtain equal marks in the Entrance
Test, the method hereinafter shall be followed:Their comparative merit shall be determined on the basis of their results in the qualifying examination in English,
Physics, Chemistry and Biology / Biotechnology taken together.
In cases where candidates secure same total marks in the above subjects in qualifying examination also, their
position in merit list shall be determined on the basis of total marks in above subjects other than English.
In case of equality of marks thereafter also the candidate who obtains higher marks in Biology / Biotechnology
shall be selected.
If in Biology / Biotechnology also more than one candidates obtain same marks, the candidate who obtains higher
marks in Chemistry shall get selection.
Again, equality of marks in Chemistry shall take the method to select the candidate who obtains higher marks in
Physics.
6.4. About the Entrance Test :The syllabus for the Entrance Test will be the same as that of class XI & XII under the 10+2 scheme of the
State / Central Education Boards. The question papers will be in English language only.
1. Method of Examination :- Optical Mark Recognition /Reading (O M R)
2. Total marks of the Entrance Test :- 100
3. Type of questions : Multiple Choice Questions (Single Response type)
4. Total Questions : 100 (each question carries 1 mark)
5. No negative marking.
6. Time : 90 minutes (one & half hour)
7. Distribution of Questions : (Physics-20, Chemistry-20, Biology/Biotechnology-60)
8. Distribution of marks : (Physics-20, Chemistry-20, Biology/Biotechnology -60)
6.5. How to apply :Interested candidates can obtain the Information Brochure & Prospectus along with the Application
Form attached directly from Principal's office personally / representative on all working days (11 am to 4 pm) on
payment of Rs. 3000/- (Rupees Three Thousand ) only by A/C Payee Demand Draft in favour of “The Society for Tripura
Medical College & Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital,” Hapania, West Tripura, payable at Agartala through S.B.I or any other
nationalized bank.
The BPL Candidates can get the Information Brochure and the Application Form free of cost on
production of authentic certificate issued by the Competent Authority.

The Application Form attached in the Prospectus can also be downloaded from the website of the Tripura
Medical College & Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital (www.tmc.nic.in). The downloaded Application Form shall accompany
the A/c payee Demand Draft amounting to Rs. 3000/- (Rupees ThreeThousand ) only during submission of application.
Please ensure that the Demand Draft bears the code number of the issuing bank. The candidate must write
his/her name clearly on the back of the Demand Draft.
The duly filled up Application & Admit Card Form along with the documents to be enclosed should reach the
office of the Principal, Tripura Medical College, Hapania, Agartala by Registered Post/Speed Post/In person by the
scheduled date and time.
Note :# Amount once paid for the Application Form and Prospectus is not refundable.
# The Authority shall not be held responsible for any postal delay under any circumstance.
6.6. Documents required to be enclosed with the Application :Applicants must submit the completed application form with attested photocopies of the following
certificates:
 Pass Certificate of the SSLC / Madhyamik Examination as proof of Age.
 Mark sheet of the (10+2) H.S. or equivalent examination who have passed in the year 2014 or before.
 Admit Card of the (10+2) H.S. or equivalent examination.
 Permanent Resident Certificate from the Competent Authority (in case of Tripura Domicile)
 ST / SC or Category Certificate from the Competent Authority (where applicable)
 BPL Card copies (where applicable)
 Two passport size recent colour photographs of the applicant in addition to affixation on application
form. All photographs should be computer printed with name of the candidate and the date of
photograph taken only in the month of May, 2015.
The Originals of the above states documents are to be produced at the time of Counselling and Admission.
Additional documents required to be produced at the time of counseling & admission in original along with
the attested photocopies :
 Mark-sheet of Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination or any equivalent Examination from the
recognized Board.
 School Leaving Certificate.
 Proof of Indian Nationality (Adhar).

College & Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital.
Now the said Permanent Committee has fixed the Fee Structure for the academic session 2015-16 as under :-

Students who belonging to BPL families would be entitled for 25% concession in the Tuition Fee.
All fees are to be deposited to the cash section of the Institution by A/C Payee Demand Draft in favour of “The Society for
Tripura Medical College & Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital.” Hapania, West Tripura, payable at Agartala trhough S.B.I. or any
other Nationalized Bank.
Execution of Bond in respect of fees : Payment of full fees in advance is to be made before commencement of every academic session.
 In case a seat is vacated while pursuing the MBBS course, the candidate shall have to pay the fees for the total
duration of the course and he/she can not claim any refund of the caution money.
 In case a student is retained beyond 4 ½ years for whatever the reason may be, he/she shall have to pay forthwith the
fees as proportionately applicable for the additional duration.
 Mess charge including cost of break fast, lunch and dinner. The mess charge will be kept in a separate. Bank account
which will be operated jointly by Chief Warden and Mess Manager to be selected from student.

9. GENERAL ACADEMIC INFORMATION
9.1 Duration of course :4½ (four and half) years plus one year period of Compulsory Residential Rotatory Internship.

September every year.

9.4 Class Attendance :a)

A minimum of 75% attendance in class in all the subjects separately is compulsory, provided he/she
has 75% attendance in non-lecture teaching classes i.e. Seminars, Group Discussions, Tutorials,
Demonstrations, Practical, Hospital Posting and besides Clinics etc. There is no provision of
condoning the shortage in class attendance.
Students who are not allowed to sit for the regular examination due to shortage of attendance may be
permitted to attend special classes to make good the shortage and enable them to appear in the
supplementary examination provided, they already have an attendance of 60% or above.
9.5 Institutional Discipline :Students are expected to observe absolute discipline in their conduct during the entire period they
spend in the Institution. Failure to observe absolute discipline will invite appropriate disciplinary action :i i. Ragging in any form is prohibited and shall not be tolerated at all.
ii.
It is expected that all students shall dress, behave & conduct themselves inside & outside the College
in a manner befitting for a medical student who shall one day become a respected member of the
society.
iii. They should be polite & considerate especially to patients and their relatives, fellow students,
teachers and staff members of the College.
iv. During class hours all students should wear a white full sleeved apron over their cloths throughout
the course.
v.
Use of mobile phones inside classrooms and examination halls by the students is strictly prohibited.
vi. Consumption of alcohol, narcotics, smoking or any kind of intoxicants is strictly prohibited in the
College & Hospital campus.
vii. Any break of discipline or failure to carry out the orders of the Principal shall be dealt with strictly &
might even result in expulsion of the student from the college and / or filing of an FIR at the police
station.
viii. The rules and regulations as prescribed and displayed in the Hospital should be strictly followed.
ix. This is an Institution meant for higher learning and the objective is not only to impart class room
teaching learning experience but also to build the character of the students and transform them into
better human beings and responsible citizen of the country.

10. FACILITIES OF THE COLLEGE
10.1 Hostels :Hostel accommodation is available for all the students. There are two Boys' Hostels and two Ladies'
Hostels. Each hostel has separate T.V room and common room. Round the clock security service is provided to
all the hostels. Each hostel has a dinning hall with seating capacity of 60 to100 students. The mess is run by
students themselves. Students will be under the disciplinary supervision of the Chief Warden and the Assistant
Warden. Staying in hostel & taking food from the hostel mess is mandatory for all students.
10.2 Rules of Hostel :i)
Seats shall be allotted at the time of admission.

No boarder is allowed to change his/her seat or
accommodation without permission of the Hostel
Superintendent.
ii)
Students are expected to observe absolute discipline
in their conduct during the entire period they spend in

Ragging, in any forms, is strictly prohibited in the hostel. Tripura Medical College & Dr. BRAM
Teaching Hospital follows a “Zero Tolerance Policy” towards Ragging.
v)
All students must attend the roll Call daily at 6 P.M . No hostel inmate will be allowed to enter the
hostel after 8 P.M. In case of any emergency concerned student should take permission from the
Hostel Superintendent.
vi)
Students should take prior written permission (Night Pass) for leaving the hostel for over night stay.
10.3 Rules for Visitors of the Hostel dwellers :
Visiting hours of the hostel : 4 p.m to 6 p.m daily.

Students should meet the visitor (s) only in the Visiting
Room in presence of a hostel staff. No
visitor/guest will be allowed in the
student's room,.

10.4 Sports & Extra Curricular Activities :The Institution lays special emphasis on sports (indoor & outdoor) and cultural activities. A
multi-gym facility is available for all the students in the campus.
10.5 Library Services :The Central Library with rich collection of books & journals is open for the students from 8 am
to 8 pm. An extended outer Reading Room facility is provided till 11 pm. The library is provided

11. SAY, NO TO RAGGING
11.1 What is ragging :Any conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of harassing, teasing,
treating, threatening or handling with rudeness any other student, indulging in rowdy or indiscipline activities
which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension
thereof in a fresher or a junior or asking the students to do any act or perform something which such student
will not in the ordinary course and which has the effect of cause or generating a sense of shame or
embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or a junior student.
11.2 Awardable punishment for ragging :1.

Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges.
Withholding / Withdrawing scholarship / fellowship and other benefits.
Debarring from appearing in any test / examination or other evaluation process.
Withholding results.
Debarring from representing the Institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament
or youth festival etc
6. Suspension / expulsion from the hostel.
7. Cancellation of admission.
8. Rustication from the Institution for a period ragging from 1 to 4 semesters.
9. Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution.
10. Fine of Rs. 25,000/- to Rs. 1,00,000/11. Collective punishment : When the persons committing or abetting the crime of ragging are not
identified, the institution shall resort to collective punishment.
12. Criminal Prosecution.
Please Note :Ragging in any form is a punishable offence as per MCI regulations, 2009 and is strictly
prohibited. Every guardian along with the candidate is to submit an undertaking in this regard at the time of
admission that their word shall not be involved in ragging at any form. If anyone is found to be involved in
ragging, he / she will be punished on recommendation of the Anti-Ragging committee of TMC formed for that
purpose.

Wrongful confinement,
Use of criminal force,
Assault as well as sexual offences or even unnatural offences,
Extortion,
Criminal trespass,
Offences against property,
Criminal intimidation,
Attempts to commit any or all of the above mentioned offences against the victim(s),
Physical or psychological humiliation,
All other offences following from the definition of “Ragging”.
