We had a good run though didn’t we? From the awkward, anxiety-ridden times of Sophomore year, to the stressfilled days of being a Junior faced with making those decisions about what to do after high school, and now to the final few days of being a laid back Senior. It seems like only yesterday we walked into the old building to find ourselves in a strange and un-air-conditioned place. But here we are at the end of the line in a newer, wintry-like version of the old building, and most importantly we can say, we survived. I’ll miss the sounds of Main Street as I’m walking to class, and the taste of a fresh batch of Beefy Cheesy Nachos, but most of all, I am going to miss each and everyone one of you, the people who made coming to school everyday worthwhile. I’d like to take this time to thank each and every person in this building, be you my best friend, a teacher who has yelled at me to get to class, or a fellow student with whom I have only shared a few words. Thank you to my parents, my brother, and my sister, for always being there for me, no matter how hard things got. Thank you to the staff, administration, and teachers for all of your help in making sure everyone discovers his or her full potential, even when things got tough. Thank you to my friends and peers, who helped me stay sane throughout all of the craziness going on. Thank you all for making my three years here so memorable. I couldn’t have asked for a better term as president. So in our last moments together, I would like to say Farewell! May you have good luck wherever your road may lead and may you find happiness and success in all your endeavors! Thank you once again, for making these past three years the very best they could be. With Love, Dylan Atkinson Neshaminy High School ‘11 University of Pittsburgh ‘15 P.S. Underclassmen, the school is yours now, you have big shoes to fill. Photo/Playwickian Staff Salutatorians reflect memorable times at Neshaminy It’s finally here: the day we have been preparing for over the past twelve years. After countless hours of grueling work, pouring our hearts into no-doubt procrastinated essays, slaving over obnoxiously mundane textbooks, filling in tiny bubbles on standardized tests, and learning to survive the social jungle that is high school, we are at last ready to leave the halls of Neshaminy and venture out into the real world. Though graduation may seem like the bold line separating our lives as high school students from our lives as adults, it is really more of a subtle transition. We will use all that we learned in school even after we cross that line, and our future experiences will be partially due to our time at Neshaminy. All the pomp and circumstance that accompany graduation may distract us from these facts, but it is inevitable that these two time periods will share a significant relationship, each affecting the other in unpredictable ways. Most importantly of all, live life to the fullest. If you make everything you do worthwhile, you will be successful and To the seniors of Neshaminy High School: The year is finally drawing to a close. Somehow we survived through 180 days. I th liked my high school li years. I didn’t enjoy the y school part, but I liked s being with my friends b for fo six hours every day. Leaving Neshaminy, L I think back on some of o the things I’ll miss. I’ll I miss having to pay $2.45 for a slice of $ pizza, the terrifyingly p unstable floor near u the th suicide hole, and the th obnoxiously loud 2-minute bell. 2 Most of all I’ll miss m the teachers I have gotten to know and g my m friends who have gotten me through high g school with laughs s and a happy memories. While there are many W Photo/Tori Hyndman happy no matter what life throws at you. Don’t waste your time trying to impress others, and don’t let anybody tell you who you are. Illegitimi non carborundum -- don’t let the bad guys grind you down. Congratulations to the Neshaminy C l a s s o f 2 0 11 on attaining this important milestone. Be sure to make your mark on the world, and never forget your Neshaminy pride. -Chad Stein Neshaminy High School ‘11 University of Pittsburgh ‘15 things I’ll miss here, it is also a relief to say that I am finally starting college, opening up a new chapter in my life. So, now that we’re done high school, let’s have an amazing summer and off to college we go! To the underclassmen: Even though it may seem like graduation is ages away, time passes a lot quicker than you would believe. So, make the most out of your high school years and remember to have fun . To those who wish to attend an Ivy League university: You need to be president of every club possible, be in class office AND student council, volunteer, play at least five sports (and be captain for at least three), get a perfect SAT score, play at least two instruments, and have a job. Disclaimer: There is still a chance that you will get rejected even after accomplishing all of these feats. Best wishes, Hannah Kim Neshaminy High School ‘11 University of Pittsburgh ‘15 Honor Society President notes student transformations “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…” Of course, I’m referring to the three years we spent together in high school, getting through the ups and downs and trying to have fun along the way. In the beginning, the school seemed enormous and confusing, but we all survived together. Our sophomore fears were demolished along with the old building, and we grew up in many ways, blossoming into the mature seniors we are today. After spending most of our lives in school, it seems crazy to think that graduation is really only a few days away. We began as students from four different middle schools and evolved into one senior class. As a group, we have all been through a great deal together. We were the last class of Neshaminy to experience crowded A-Hall, the falling ceiling tiles of G9A, and the rest of the dilapidated old building. We were there for the arrival of the freshmen, eager to steer them towards the third floor pool. We cherished Mr. Richmond, our favorite substitute teacher, and learned that the high school is actually located in Neshaminy, Pa. Despite the fact that most of us are eager to move on to bigger and better things, I advise you to never forget what you learned here at Neshaminy. Whether your primary focus was achieving academic excellence, showing off exquisite musical talent, demonstrating keen athletic prowess, or simply having fun, treasure the times that you have had within these halls. Cherish the memories of football games, Gym Night, proms, beefy cheesy nachos and senior pranks gone awry. As you move on, keep in touch with those who inspired you and impacted your life in amazing ways. Remember the family members who supported you on your journey to success, the faculty members who taught you much more valuable lessons than what was in the textbooks, and the dear friendships that made your high school experience worthwhile. Photo/Dan Coleman Good luck to everyone, for the best is yet to come. We did it! -Emily Duke Neshaminy High School ‘11 Penn State Schreyer Honors College ‘15 Student Council President reminisces Fare Thee Well Ye Ole Neshaminy: So much can happen after three years: a newborn puppy can celebrate its 21st birthday; a Twinkie can be seven years away from turning into liquor; even a large mass of potatoes can be grown in three years. After three years at Neshaminy High School – my second home away from my third home’s cousin’s apartment – I can finally say that I’m graduating and moving on the next step in my life. As I reminisce throughout my days here, I can’t stop to think about everything I’m leaving behind. Farewell to mystery meat lunches and 10 cent ketchup packets. So long to the unneeded flat screen TVs in every room that have up to three channels. I’m going to miss the windows that are incapable of opening and the rock gardens that have absolutely no use whatsoever. Life will not be the same without countless hall aids breathing down my neck commanding me to get to class when I’m just trying to get my fanny pack out of my locker. I’m going to miss little fights in the hallways that can attract thousands of people to see what’s happening. What I’m going to miss the most about you, Neshaminy, is the infinite amount of drama that pours through you. I’ll miss it all. There are a lot of things I have to leave behind, Neshaminy, but you have also given me various things that I will take into the future. You have given me the best friends anyone can ask for, who are always there for me when I’m down and who enjoy my slight randomness. You have shown me the magical land of Gym Night, a place where all dreams come true…if you are on the blue team. Through Gym Night, you helped me catch the most amazing girl who roams around Neshaminy: Miss Paige Dumke. You let me teach everyone how to YES with my main man Kiki, and you gave me a Junior and Senior Prom that I will never forget. Every senior says the same thing, “I can’t wait to leave you, Neshaminy. I can’t wait to leave you for someone bigger and more expensive, like Temple or Penn State. I can’t wait to leave you for someone like your older brother, Bucks County Community College.” Well, I’m different. I’m going to miss you, Neshaminy. You are more than just paradise to me. You are my sensei who trained me well for the future. -Tom Katelhon Neshaminy High School ‘11 University of Pittsburgh ‘15 June 8, 2011 The Playwickian Farewells Page 4A Farewell to the Class of 2011 Class adviser Oberto offers graduates advice Class of 2011, As you are leaving Neshaminy to enter into the next phase of your lives, I hope that you will remember the time spent here fondly. There were so many wonderful moments that I was having trouble deciding on what to talk about, so I just started from the beginning; orientation, first day, sports, activities, band, musicals, Gym Night, Sophomore dance, Dorney Park, Junior Class Trip, power outage, Junior Prom, Dodge b a l l , P o w d e r P u ff , Neshaminy Idol, Mr. Redskin, Senior Prom and finally graduation. Dr. Rob McGee Neshaminy High School Principal June 8, 2011 The Playwickian Farewells Page 5A The Playwickian Managing Editors Say Goodbye Good luck: Editor In Chief wishes next year’s team well Working as Editor In Chief this year brought forth both challenges and rewards that I had not initially anticipated. When I became involved with the paper sophomore year, working as a staff writer and copy editor, I did not for see all of the potential successes to be had, memories to be made, and fun that was in store for the following years. The Playwickian has not only helped me get my footing in the journalism world—but has given me lasting friends and memories. I would like to thank Lera, our Managing Editor, for making this year as stress free as possible. Always organized, attentive and helpful, you single-handedly kept the paper on track and lent to its success each month. Your silliness lightened intense and otherwise frustrating layouts; I have always enjoyed our Frisbee masking tape game. You’ve had my back have supported me undeniably and it is now while I reflect that I finally realize that I should have listened to you when you told me not to jump onto the rolling chair… Basically, I’m just glad we met sophomore year in journalism and have become so good friends. I can’t imagine things differently. To Dan, thank you for always being the problem solver of the newspaper team. Frustrated with InDesign or Photoshop, you would come over and with one click make everything better, which is interestingly enough how things seem to work with us outside of the Playwickian office: me flailing and freaking out and you always there to simplify matters and bring me down to reality. Newspaper has undeniably brought us closer together and I’m glad I was able to enjoy the experience with you. Thanks to Jocelyn for never making me worry about the progress of her pages, and to Mrs. Huber for getting us back on track and supplying us with snacks. To all of the other editors and writers and contributors to the paper, thank you for all your work. I’m proud of everyone and it is clear that everyone’s skill have continually improved over the course of the year. For the future managing team, make sure you guys have fun. Too many times Managing Editor offers advice to future editors High School, I don’t think I’ll ever experience anything quite like it again. The people, the experiences, and the memories surely will never leave me. I can’t imagine much of my senior class knowing exactly who I am, seeing as I hardly know who most of them are. But I would like to say that even though I Tori Hyndman (L), Dan Coleman (C), and Lera Salmon (R) worked nonstop this year to create The Playwickian. They also are debatably, the three best friends that anybody could have. Photo/Emily Duke this year we got bogged down with deadlines and stress and forgot how fun and enjoyable layout can be. So don’t forget it! It’s been a great year—a quick one—filled with laughs and jokes (usually pointed at Amanda Panda) and I’m happy to have been an integral part of it. Best of luck to all of next year’s staff. -Tori Hyndman Neshaminy High School ‘11 American University ‘15 didn’t know everyone I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed my time at Neshaminy with them. I would like to say a few words to some people who truly impacted my time here at Neshaminy. First, my best friend and co-editor Tori; the Playwickian brought us together and for that I couldn’t be more thankful. Through every laugh, tear, and deadline you have been there for me. You have truly been a huge part of my life and for that I am truly lucky and grateful. Second I would like to say thank you to Dan. You are the most interesting, funny and kind person I know (No matter what Rita’s Water Ice has to say about it.) You have been one of my best friends and I am so happy I’ve been given the opportunity to spend these last couple of years with you. Being a part of the newspaper and been an awesome experience that I will never forget. The hours spent in the office, making jokes at other people’s expense, laughing over the silly things the editors say, and dedicating time to make the paper the best it can be has really filled my year with fond memories. The Playwickian has been a large part of my years at Neshaminy and I hope to take all my knowledge of the art of journalism and apply it to life outside Neshaminy paradise. For the editors next year, I have a bit of advice. Josh, remember to always be kind to everyone and treat the other editors with the respect them deserve. Please don’t forget to keep calm, even in the midst of an approaching deadline stay on top of things and don’t lose sight of your goal: making an awesome paper (with little to no spelling errors.) Meaghan, don’t be afraid to speak up and get people on track. Be sure to keep everyone calm (mostly Josh) and make the newspaper environment as friendly as possible. Jon, my favorite guy in the world, I know you will keep Josh and all the other editors in line and your status as ladies man will only improve with age. I wish the best of luck to the editors of next year and I hope that you all learn from our mistakes and strive to make the paper the best it can be. -Lera Salmon Neshaminy High School ‘11 Temple University ‘15 Three-hatted student recalls memorable high school times High school is over. After three long years—well kind of four—we can all finally say that we are graduating. There are plenty of things that I am not going to miss, but there are also quite a few that I will: The Playwickian. What started off as just an elective quickly consumed my life, but I am definitely not complaining. Through newspaper, I got to meet one of my best friends, the girl I love, and tons of other truly awesome people. Last years seniors left big shoes to fill and we definitely strove to match their talents. The staff has really made all the hard work and after school hours really worth it. I am so glad I was able to be a part of what has been clinically proven to be the best student-run newspaper in the world. My Classes. Now I do not want to sound like a complete nerd, but I can honestly say I have not hated a lot of my classes, even a few of the teachers. What transformed my classes from miserable to actually enjoyable, was the people in them. I was with just about the same group of kids since tenth grade. They helped motivate and push me to reach the position I did. I owe them a lot of thanks. Class Office. I loved being the Historian. It was a lot of work planning the proms, trips and other events, but completely worthwhile. The satisfaction of seeing all of my efforts pay off, culminating in activities I would like to think the entire grade enjoyed. My fellow officers, you guys are amazing. I could not imagine what these past three years would have been like if I didn’t have the chance to start everyday off with you all. So thank you, you really made my time here great. Senior Year. I had the most difficult course load I have ever had this year and yet it is still my favorite high school year. Not to sound like a broken record, but what really made it great, were my friends. Whether they had been my best friends since kindergarten or soccer, or people I met this year through gym, environmental, or psych class, the relationships I formed here are really something special. The gang made all of the late nights doing homework and hours spent in the newspaper office not seem so awful. I don’t think I would be in the position I am in without all of you. High school has been my life and I don’t regret that. I wouldn’t change how I spent my time here. Now I’m just looking forward to next year, and hopefully another four great years. -Dan Coleman Valedictorian, Class Historian, Business Editor Neshaminy High School ‘11 Tulane University ‘15 Page 6A The Playwickian Albertson, Alyson - Gold Athlete , Scholar Athlete Amin, Dylan - Business Academic Certificate Atkinson, Dylan - Senior Class President Autenrieth, Jody - NHS Vocal Music Boosters Barlow, Shannon -Sandburg Middle School Scholarship, Scholar Athlete Barner, Stephen - Silver Athlete, Scholar Athlete Baron, David - Scholar Athlete Beloff, Brian - Musical Theater Award Boccuti, Jason - NHS Instrumental Music Boosters Book, USMC Semper Fidelis Bouzid, Munir - Neshaminy Federation of Teachers Book Scholarship, Sandburg Middle School Scholarship Bryson, Matthew - Boys Soccer Booster Scholarship Caldwell , Ashley - Neshaminy Pride and Perseverance Calvert, Brittany - Gold Athlete, Scholar Athlete Cantando, Gerard -Perfect Attendance 11 and 12 Caporale, Jason Gold Athlete, Maple Point Middle School Scholarship, USMC Distinguished Athlete, Scholar Athlete Carney, Thomas - NHS Instrumental Music Boosters Service Carrezola, Caitlin - Silver Athlete, Scholar Athlete Castro, Angelina - Society of Women Engineers, Student Council Secretary/Treasurer Chatot, Brian - Louis P.
