SVETA YAVORSKY ‘I Tempi’ Sveta Yavorsky Sveta Yavorsky was born in Russia. She studied art and architecture at the Moscow University of Architecture before moving to London in 1992 as a fine artist. Her architectural training became an inspiration for geometric patterns within figurative compositions, and developed by closely observing Kandinsky’s theory of colour. New exhibition by Sveta Yavorsky, ‘I Tempi’, presents monochromous calligraphic floral patterns. Subtle variation in flow and density of entangled elements produce distinct "tempo" in each painting. The elements themselves are abstract black ink particles, like individual notes, if looked up closely, but observed from distance they chisel floral forms from whiteness of the canvas like distant chimes carve chords from silence. Here, the contrast between the inner and outer world has been placed in careful balance, the subjects metamorphose into each other and their backgrounds. In Yavorsky’s work, Time is suspended, an hourglass left lying on its side. Outside these windows, time is still dissolving grain by grain.
