Previously the school was located at Oak House in opportunity to purchase the Hornby site which had previously been a Leyland and was known as Whinfield; the name coming from the previous county council secondary school and came with many facilities that we site where the first school was situated on Whinfield Lane in Preston. only dreamt about at Whinfield. The school was purchased in early 2011 and completely re-furbished at considerable expense in terms of money and more importantly in volunteer time to deliver to us an outstanding educational facility where students have every opportunity to fulfil their potential By 2011 the site at Leyland had become too restrictive and lacked the play areas and sports facilities that a rapidly expanding school population required. 7|Page The Team Teaching Staff Name Qualifications Position Mrs L Carter-Davies BSc (Hons), PGCE, QTS, MA Mrs Z Neesham BA (Hons), PGCE, QTS Mrs C Hartley BA (Hons), PGCE, QTS Mrs F Thornton Ms S Ingram Mrs D Revell Mr M Sweeney Miss S Cooke Mrs R Clegg Miss L Boothman Mr J Forber Mrs J Lowery Mr G Atkinson Mr N Klein Mrs N Bunter Mrs L Dickinson Mr I Williams BSc (Hons), PGCE, QTS, MSc BSc, PGCE, QTS BA (Hons), PGCE, QTS, PG dip BA (Hons) PGCE, QTS BA (Hons) BSc (Hons), MSc, PGCE, QTS BA (Hons), PGCE, QTS BEd (Hons) QTS BEd(Hons), QTS BSc (Hons), Cert Ed BSc (Hons), PGCE, QTS BSc (Hons), PGCE, QTS BA (Hons), PGCE, QTS BA (Hons), Cert Ed Head Teacher Teacher of Science Deputy Head Teacher Teacher of History Director of Student Learning: KS5 Learning Leader Teacher of English KS4 Learning Leader and Exams Officer KS2 Learning Leader Teacher of English & E learning leader Teacher of Design Technology and Art Teacher of Music Primary Class Teacher Primary Class Teacher Teacher of Maths Teacher of PE & SENDco Teacher of PE and H&S Officer Teacher of ICT Teacher of Food and Science Teacher of Geography Teacher of French 8|Page Support Staff Name Qualifications Position Mrs T Massey TA NVQ Level 3 LS Coordinator (Juniors) Mrs S Murby TA NVQ Level 3 LS Assistant School Secretary Mrs H Bowker Regular Volunteer Teachers Name Position Mrs H Pringle Textiles coach 9|Page School Life School Times – 2015/2016 8.45am - 8.55am Registration 8.55am - 9.45am Period 1 9.45am – 10.35am Period 2 10.35am – 10.55am Break 10.55am – 11.45am Period 3 11.45am – 12.35pm Period 4 12.35pm – 1.15pm Lunch 1.15pm – 2.05pm Period 5 2.05pm – 2.55pm Period 6 Tuesdays and Thursdays only 2.55pm – 3.45pm Enrichment 10 | P a g e Uniform Uniform at Hornby Campus is compulsory. Each House also has a House Captain and Deputy House Captain who are part of our student leadership team. At Hornby we take as many of the opportunities as we can to broaden the Secondary students register in House groups every morning apart from Tuesdays, which is our Assembly day. theme and produce some excellent work and even experience some of their Numerous House activities are planned throughout the year where students have the opportunity to work together to earn points for their House. This also helps to build a strong link between Primary and Secondary. House Prizes are awarded at the end of each academic year in recognition of the points earned by each team and have included a bird of prey experience, a trip to the zoo and a den building and orienteering day. students learning through experience. The School operates a system of internal Extra-Curricular days when the whole school splits up into house groups and together they discover facts about a particular country or cuisine. There is much encouragement for all students to participate in musical tuition beyond the curriculum and we hold regular events to showcase the many talents of our students in the form of choir, band or individual performances. 12 | P a g e School Trips Fundraising A variety of school trips are available to students throughout their time at Hornby Campus, bringing subjects to life. Some regular visits include a History trip to Vindolanda, a Geography trip to Malham, a 6th form trip to the Houses of Parliament and a whole school trip to White Scar Caves. At Hornby Campus we are very aware that there are plenty of people less fortunate than ourselves and we take pride in doing our best to help them, therefore fundraising plays a prominent role in school life. This is usually undertaken in House groups and we have supported and continue to support a variety of charities. Students enjoy the chance to learn outside of the classroom and to develop cross-curricular skills. There have also been trips to York, to the Wray scarecrow festival for our primary students and a French exchange for our 6th formers. These range from home-grown causes such as MacMillan Cancer Support, Parkinson’s UK and Diabetes UK to charities further afield, such as The Bethany Project in Tanzania, a music school in Albania and the worldwide Shoebox Appeal. 13 | P a g e School Term and Holiday Dates 2015/2016 Summer Term 2016 Autumn Term 2015 In-service Days for Staff In-service Days for Staff Re-open In-service Days for Staff Mid Term Closure 2015 (inclusive) Closure after school on Tuesday 1st September 2015 Wednesday 2nd September 2015 Thursday 3rd September 2015 at 08:05am Thursday 22nd October 2015 Monday 26th October - Friday 30th October Number of openings 74 (71) Friday 18th December 2015 at 12 noon Re-open on May Day Closure Mid Term Closure (inclusive) Closure after school on Thursday 7th April 2016 Monday 2nd May 2016 Monday 30th May - Friday 3rd June 2016 Number of openings 66 (66) Friday 15th July 2016 at 12 noon Total Number of Openings - 190 Students 194 Staff Plus three 2‐hour twilight sessions in lieu of Monday 18th July 2016 ‐to be agreed with SDA. This is so that, with parental permission, an assessment can be arranged. In this way, the needs of the child can be fully identified. At Hornby we believe it is our responsibility to provide a safe, supportive, caring and secure environment for our students to learn and that we must protect our students from bullying as part of this responsibility. Students should feel secure in their ability to report incidents and feel confident that such reports will be dealt with efficiently and effectively. On an annual basis the School’s SENDco will attend training courses to ensure the school provides appropriate support to all students.
