Fred Loimer’s best known wine is Grüner Veltliner Lois
(rhymes with “choice”), the local name for Langenlois,
Kamptal’s main village. The wine is produced from
contracted growers, and is a quality expression of the
Kamptal region at a price intended for everyday
consumption. Lois carries the Niederösterreich
appellation and is currently produced from 10% from
organically farmed vineyards.
Austria's Kamptal wine region lies north of the Danube
River, roughly 50 kilometers northwest of Vienna. The
hot, dry summers and mild winters are favorable to
growing vines, especially that of the most planted
varietal, the Gruner Veltliner. Also influencing climate is
the southerly-flowing Kamp River, which brings in
cooling air during the nighttime hours. Mostly south
facing, the vineyards boast a loess-based soil
compound that is ideal for vinifera.
