Greg Young ‘14 Last year’s Mr. NDA Greg Young, known for his hilarious towel skit, is a freshman at Marquette University training in the Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps as a Marine option midshipmen. While NROTC keeps Young busy, he still has time for plenty of extracurriculars like Ski and Snowboard Club, Ultimate Frisbee Club, Ukulele Club and NROTC basketball. His favorite Mr. NDA act was Joe Curtin’s “Make Them Laugh,” a song and dance routine from the movie Singing in the Rain. Young recalled his favorite part of Mr. NDA: “Getting to see the progression from a contestant’s idea turning into a reality and then somehow being able to pull it off the night of the show.” Young will return to Notre Dame to crown Mr. NDA XX on Saturday, December 5. Jeff Lutsey ‘96 Jeff Lutsey, winner of the first ever Mr. NDA competition, has been living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and working as a Navy sailor trainer and designing Navy propulsions systems for the past 12 years. Lutsey will soon be moving to Door County where he will spend time with his family and focus on the family farm. “I have incredible memories from our first Mr. NDA celebration. I vividly remember how anxious and excited all of us were because we had absolutely no idea what to expect,” said Lutsey. Lutsey will be returning for the December Mr. NDA reunion, an event scheduled for Friday night before this year’s show. Kieran DeGroot ‘13 Mr. NDA 2013, Kieran DeGroot is now a sophomore at Carroll University studying Exercise Science with the intent of becoming a physical therapist. DeGroot is a multiple sport athlete, busy with both soccer and track at Carroll. His favorite Mr. NDA memory is from the year after he won, when he returned to perform a “killer intro” with other Mr. NDA Alum in 2014. “Mr. NDA is a competition and at New York City and Los Angeles to maintain studios, as well as participating in New York Fashion Week but still finding time for dance. “My favorite memory from my Mr. NDA contest would have to be feeling You Need Is Love.” “You can accomplish some amazing things when you're given the right opportunity, like the stage at a Mr. NDA competition,” said Connelly. Hunter Yewman ‘10 Former Mr. NDA Hunter Yewman recently graduated from St. Norbert College with a bachelor’s degree in communication and a minor in leadership studies. Yewman is still located in Green Bay but may move within the year, depending on different job opportunities. Ross Warpinski ‘11 Mr. NDA 2011 Ross Warpinski took his talents to the big stage after Notre Dame by moving to Manhattan and pursuing a dance and stylist career. After attending the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for a year, Warpinski got accepted to the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City. There he also began working for a celebrity stylist. Warpinski keeps himself busy in the fashion industry, traveling between the crowd’s energy and support for every contestant from start to finish… and maybe having a dance party as my talent portion of the evening,” Warpinski said. Shawn Connelly ‘03 Shawn Connelly, a 2003 NDA graduate and Mr. NDA winner, is back home working as a Creative Services Director at WFRV-TV in Green Bay after traveling the world in his twenties. Connelly spent time in Thailand, London, New York City and Alaska before settling down again to work and play music around Wisconsin. He is pursuing a career writing screenplays, making short films, and trying to make that “big break” happen, he said. Elliott talked about various Mr. NDA memories, from practicing his beachwear skit with Mrs. Campbell to dancing to the Cha Cha slide on the catwalk, and how he also had written a published paper on Mr. NDA in college. Semi Pro because I play basketball and like to get tropical. Who is a female version of yourself? And why? The late Joan Rivers because she was passionate, intelligent and just a little sassy. Q: What have you admired about past Mr. NDA emcees? Maddi: All of the past Mr. NDA emcees have been extremely brave and good at what they do. They have all had beautiful stage presence and were great public speakers. You could tell they put a lot of hard work into the performance. Q: How do you feel about being in front of a large crowd (full auditorium) and do you have any past experience? Maddi: I actually emceed for Triton Runway when I was a sophomore, so I do have past experience being one. It was a much smaller crowd, however. I’m still even more excited to be doing this in front of the whole school. I’ll be nervous, but I think I’ll be fine. Kristen: I do not have much experience speaking in front of a large crowd, but I am really looking forward to it. It is obviously a little nerve wracking to have so many people watching you, but it will be a lot of fun! Q: What are you looking forward to most about emceeing? Maddi: I think the time commitment will be the biggest struggle. Kristen: Being a hectic time with school, college applications and sports, it is going to be a lot of late nights, but I am definitely excited to be a part of the show. For the actual show itself, the biggest challenge is going to be talking for the first few minutes. It will take some getting used to. Q: What will you bring to the Maddi: I think I have a very different personality that will serve me well as an emcee. I tend to be slightly sarcastic, but I’m very talkative and can keep the crowd interested. I think Kristen’s and my personalities will go together very well. Kristen: Well, I am not very shy or intimidated by large crowds, so I think that will give me confidence when I am on stage, but Maddi and I are also very outgoing and I think the crowd with enjoy our humor. Q: What special skills do you possess that will help to make Mr. NDA a successful night? Maddi: I tend to get very excited and hyper, and I think that will help me bring a good energy that will rub off on the crowd. Kristen: I am very positive and outgoing and hopefully the crowd can feel the excitement we have.
