In the historic heart of Germany, only one hour by train
from Berlin, are the neighbouring cities of Leipzig and
Halle (Saale). Music history was written in both cities.
Two of the world’s most important composers lived
here.
Both cities host opulent music festivals each year in
June at historic locations of the musicians. Music lovers from around the world encounter international
stars at the Handel Festival Halle and the Leipzig Bach
Festival.

Johann Sebastian Bach composed his passions, the oratorios
and a large part of the cantatas in Leipzig. These were performed for the first time in the main churches of St. Nicholas
and St. Thomas. At the Leipzig Bach Festival, Bach’s works can
be experienced where they were originally performed. The
major Bach performers of our time will play here, including
Bach’s own ensemble, the more than 800 years old St. Thomas Choir of Leipzig. More than 100 events will take
place on the eleven days of the festival.

George Frideric Handel – a great European, well-travelled,
worldly, polyglot! His fascinating artist biography is presented in the home where Handel was born. Multimedia
elements and sophisticated stage productions, such as the
miniature Baroque theatre, bring the great son of the city
to life. The exhibitor’s display is complemented by a major
collection of historical music instruments and the historic
Wilhelm Friedemann Bach Haus.

Four opulent theatrical opera productions can be experienced in the Oper Halle and in the historic Goethe-Theater
Bad Lauchstädt in a festival lasting eleven days and with a
programme offering more than 80 events. The beloved arias will echo at authentic locations like the baptismal church
of Handel in a series of festival concerts with international
singing stars. Handel ’s masterpieces can truly be “experienced” at the places of his youth and his early work.
