Letter From the Chairman
2012 Annual Report
Fitness can save lives. Team Racing for Veteran’s (R4V) first full year in operation enabling
veterans to impact their own recovery humbled me with profound gratitude. Your support and
donations to Team R4V spark a direct, impactful difference in the lives of wounded veterans
who need our help.
2012 offered an expedition with our veterans highlighted by CrossFit competitions, triathlons,
and races spanning America. Indeed, donations lead to many phenomenal outcomes! As you
will read in this annual report:
• Donations increase access to rehabilitation and reintegration through sport: Sport brings
veterans out of the darkness and into the light while integrating them with their
communities. This is critical in the healing process.
• Donations support expansion of services: R4V’s Warrior CrossFit Program, developed in
2012, has become a cornerstone program to the wounded veteran community.
• Donations lead to a national impact: Due to increased donations, Team R4V is able to
support veterans, regardless of where they live in the U.S.
• Donations lead to additional support in times of crisis: Team R4V is now offering services
that not only support veterans through sport, but also help wounded veterans and
service members secure gainful employment.
We are profoundly grateful to all of our supporters. Because of your outstanding generosity,
this year’s Annual Report will provide supporters a post Victory lap to reflect while always
looking ahead beyond the finish line as we strive to achieve our vision: Saving Lives.
Thank you for everything you do to support this vision.
Proudly serving with Sincere Gratitude,
Jeff Haugh, Chairman

Team R4V’s Warrior CrossFit Program
In June of 2012, Team R4V launched its Warrior CrossFit Program. CrossFit is the
principal strengthening and conditioning program for most of the military branches,
thus, many veterans and service members feel a deep sense of connection to the
sport. As a part of R4V’s 2012 Warrior CrossFit Program, R4V provided ongoing
support to CrossFit Walter Reed, sponsored a CrossFit Walter Reed Athlete of the
Month, supported wounded veterans and service members pursuing their CrossFit
coaching certification, and funded the inaugural Working Wounded Games.
The Working Wounded Games
Team R4V funded the first ever adaptive CrossFit competition in November of 2012. It
was an incredible success with wounded veterans and service members flying across
the country to compete in the competition.
Total raised for the Working Wounded Games: $10,666
$2,880 Spent on general support of the 2012 WWG
$2,500 Boulder Crest grant*
$5,286 For the 2013 Games
*The mission of Boulder Crest is to provide a first-class rural retreat for America’s
seriously wounded warriors and their families to reconnect and recover. Team R4V
funded four veterans and their family members to attend a five-day intensive retreat.

Ongoing Support for CrossFit Walter Reed
Team R4V provides ongoing support and assistance to CrossFit Walter Reed, located in
the Walter Reed National Medical Center. Team R4V purchases maintenance
equipment and individual equipment for athletes that participate in CrossFit Walter
Reed classes. Team R4V’s support is vital to the maintenance and upkeep of CrossFit
Walter Reed and the constantly evolving needs of the veterans that this gym serves.

CrossFit Walter Reed Athlete of the Month
In December of 2012, Team R4V launched its CrossFit
Walter Reed Athlete of the Month program. This
program allows the coaches at CrossFit Walter Reed
to nominate a veteran or service member who has
worked exceptionally hard at his/her rehabilitation
that month and Team R4V provides that veteran with
lifting shoes, CrossFit shorts, and a technical CrossFit
shirt. This program has proven to be an incredible
success moving into 2013, boosting the morale of the
Athlete of the Month and providing that veteran
with a TEAM of support during his/her rehabilitation.

Level 1 Certifications:
Team R4V funded its first wounded veteran in obtaining his Level 1 Certification so that
he can coach and workout at his local CrossFit gym for free. This proved to be an
incredible success, as CrossFit is providing employment, a steady income and adds
stability to veterans’ “new normal”.
R4V Warrior Athlete Program
Team R4V’s Warrior Athlete Program fills an incredible gap in services for our wounded
service members and veterans! Before Team R4V, when a veteran was diagnosed solely
with one of the signature wounds of the Iraq or Afghanistan wars (Post-Traumatic
Stress Disorder and/or Traumatic Brain Injury) there was little to no athletic support
available to him/her. This was a tragedy.
By providing ongoing coaching and mentoring services and athletic equipment for these
brave warriors, Team R4V provides the critical support, TEAM, and motivation that these
men and women not only need, but deserve.
2012 Grants Made for Warrior Athlete Program
$125 for Race Entry Fees
$420 for Coaching Services

R4V’s Patriot Racing Team
In March of 2012, Team R4V launched its Patriot Racing Team. The Team, composed of R4V
supported veterans, advocates, athletes, and/or concerned citizens, trains and competes
together in national level athletic events in order to promote unity, team-building, and
relationship building. This cornerstone program is integral to Team R4V’s mission of supporting,
rehabilitating and reintegrating wounded veterans and service members through sport.
The Patriot Racing Team’s 2012 races included the Shamrock Marathon, Half-Marathon, and
8K, along with the Air Force Half & Full Marathon, Marine Corps Marathon, and ING New York
City Marathon. A total of 83 R4V supported veterans, advocates, and concerned citizens
traveled across the country to compete with the Team. By training and competing together,
lifelong friendships were forged, individuals were motivated to push beyond their comfort
zone, and a TEAM BOND was created that will never be broken!
$55,640 was raised in support of Team R4V’s Patriot Racing Team in 2012.

Looking Forward
Team R4V has robust goals in 2013, but as the organization’s second full year in
operation, the need has never been more prevalent for the expansion of programs and
services. At the close of 2012, grant applications from veterans seeking Team R4V’s
support nearly tripled in the matter of weeks. This means Team R4V has an exciting
2013 ahead of it, but it also comes with some serious programmatic goals, including:
Warrior CrossFit Program Goals
•
2013 Working Wounded Games: To raise over $20,000 in support of the 2013
Working Wounded Games. This money will be used not only to host over double the
veterans and service members for the 2013 Games, but also used to provide a
stipend to any wounded veteran or service member who wants to compete in the
2013 Games, but does not live in the greater Washington, D.C. area.
•
Scholarships for CrossFit Gym Memberships: Team R4V will provide wounded
veterans and service members with scholarships to train at their local CrossFit gyms.
Team R4V will also provide veterans’ families with gym memberships, as the entire
family unit staying healthy and spending time together is a top priority of Team R4V.
•
Ongoing Support for CrossFit Walter Reed: Team R4V will continue to provide
ongoing support and assistance to CrossFit Walter Reed.
•
Walter Reed Athlete of the Month: Team R4V will continue to provide a CrossFit
Walter Reed athlete each month with CrossFit gear, which can include lifting shoes,
technical shirt and/or shorts.
•
Level 1 Certifications: Team R4V will expand this aspect of the Warrior CrossFit
Program and continue to provide scholarships to wounded veterans and service
members in obtaining their Level 1 Certification.
Patriot Racing Team Goals
•
Raise over $65,000 through corporate sponsors, individual donors, and foundation
grants through the Patriot Racing Program.
•
Recruit over 100 R4V supported veterans, advocates, athletes, and/or concerned
citizens to citizens that train and compete together in order to promote unity, teambuilding, and relationship building.
Warrior Athlete Program Goals
•
Continue to fill the gaps in equipment support for wounded veterans and service
members.
•
Continue to support veterans that are already a part of R4V’s Warrior Athlete
Program.
•
Support at least 30 additional veterans as part of this program.
