Summary
Dogs Trust is the largest dog-welfare organisation in the UK. We rescue,
rehabilitate and rehome nearly 17,000 stray and abandoned dogs a year at our
21 rehoming centres across the UK and Ireland. We are absolutely determined to
STOP healthy dogs being put to sleep in the UK and beyond. We never destroy
a healthy dog in our care.
We are reliant on voluntary donations in order to continue our work. As part of
this, Dogs Trust receives some large donations from charitable
trusts/foundations, corporate partners and wealthy individuals (major donors).
There is potential to increase funds from these sources significantly in order to
continue the expansion of our work.
As a result, we are investing in our Philanthropy & Corporate Partnerships Team.
The Special Events Officer is a new role in the newly formed Special Events
Team and will support the Special Events Manager to develop, deliver and
evaluate an events strategy targeted specifically at major donor, corporate
partner and VIP/ influencer audiences.
You will work alongside the Corporate Partnerships and Philanthropy Teams to
support them with the identification, cultivation and stewardship of prospects
through delivery of an annual events programme ranging from intimate dinners,
through to larger garden parties and gala/ball events.
You’ll be a dog-lover and appreciate that the real stars at your events are our
dogs looking for their forever homes.
Duties
You will report to the Special Events Manager. You will support them in delivering

the special events elements of the fundraising strategy by:
 Coordinating logistics for events, including identifying potential venues,
programme development, producing invitations, speaker briefings, securing
auction lots, coordinating and attending events on the day and undertaking
follow up with guests.
 Liaison with external suppliers and contractors required to deliver events, e.g.
logistics, venue, entertainment, catering, design and creative and negotiate all
costs/ ask for in-kind support where appropriate.
 Working closely with colleagues in the Communications Department to
coordinate messaging and PR commitments for external facing events.
 Working closely with colleagues in the Operations Department to coordinate
dog and rehoming centre staff attendance at special events when required.
 Working closely with colleagues in the Corporate Partnerships and
Philanthropy Teams to ensure any corporate sponsors or major donors
hosting events have their expectations met fully and are consulted on key
elements of their events;
 Ensure guest/host data is recorded accurately on our internal CRM system
and in line with all FSB and IOF guidelines and regulations.
 Supporting the e implementation of monitoring, evaluation and review process
for all events delivered within the Philanthropy & Corporate Partnerships
Team.
 To contribute to and provide regular updates across the organisation to ensure
special events activity is embedded across the organisation and is aligned with
the wider plans and objectives of Dogs Trust.

Person Specification
About you
Essential:
 Previous experience of coordinating events and logistics (e.g. dealing with
venues/ hosts, invitations, guest list, caterers, printers etc);
 Exceptional attention to detail;
 Strong organisational skills with a methodical approach to working on a
number of tasks simultaneously and working to deadlines;

 A strong team player under pressure;
 Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and
diplomatically with a wide range of people at all levels;
 Good written and research skills with the ability to draft letters, invites, reports
and biographies;
 Good telephone manner;
 Proactive and able to work independently;
 Accurate word-processing skills and the ability to use effectively Word, Excel,
Outlook, databases and internet applications;
 Willingness to work occasional days at weekend (time back in lieu) and/or late
evenings for events; and
 A commitment to the aims and values of Dogs Trust.
Desirable, but not essential:
 Experience in a fundraising role;
 Experience working in a team focussed on high net worth individuals; and
 Experience working in a team focussed on VIPs/ celebrities.
