Do not eat for 8 hours before your test. You may have sips of water.
For this test, you are asked to eat cooked egg whites, toast and jelly, and drink a small glass of water.
The egg is labeled with a radioactive tracer - it tastes the same as usual.
If you have diabetes bring your medication to the hospital so you can take it with your meal.
Stop any stomach medication 48 hours before unless this test is to check the effects of a new medication.

If you are on a antispasmodic or narcotic opioid medication please stop for 48 hours before your test.
Consult your doctor if needed.
After you have eaten, we take pictures for up to 4 hours (with some waiting between pictures). This is to
trace the rate food leaves your stomach. Do not eat or drink anything between pictures until the test is
Wear comfortable clothing without metal buttons and zippers, if possible.
You do not need to have someone come with you to the hospital. There are no effects from this scan.
Nuclear medicine scans do not use dyes. Allergies to Nuclear Medicine tracers are very rare.
Do not wear lotions, aftershaves, perfumes, hair sprays, or other products that are scented. The Regina
Qu’Appelle Health Region operates scent free facilities.
Call us if you are breastfeeding. You may need to stop after the scan for a few hours or days.
