Cable management on Connectix Cabling System patch
panels can be enhanced by the use of the cable
management tray. The tray fits securely at the rear of any
Connectix standard or high density patch panels, and
provides additional cable tie positions to allow neat
routing of cables from the back of the panel.
Jumper Ring Panels:
These provide rings to allow patch leads to be supported
and prevented from obscuring other equipment.
Connectix Cabling System jumper ring panels are
available in two configurations; either four rings for
horizontal support, or three for horizontal and two for
vertical support.

One way of stripping data cables is to use a knife,
but the right way to strip data cables is to use the
Connectix Cable Stripper. Pocket size, safe and easy
to use even in confined spaces.
The fully encapsulated blades ensure a precisely
controlled and constant cutting depth, without the risk of
nicking the individual wires or your fingers. It just takes
one rotation of the stripper to remove the outer jacket of
all common shielded and unshielded data cables up to a
diameter of 8mm.
As an added advantage, the Connectix Stripper can also
be used to strip the outer jacket of RG58 and RG59 size
Coaxial Cables without the damage to the outer shield
that seems inevitable when a knife is used.

Patch panels should be used to terminate the
cabling from each of the RJ45 outlets around the
home, enabling different services to be routed to any
outlet.
The Connectix Enhanced Category 5 patch panels
provide exceptional performance for high speed LANs
including Gigabit Ethernet applications in an easy to use
format. This 12 way panel consists of industry standard
IDC connections and high quality RJ45 Jacks. The panel
utilises the specially designed individually labelled cable
saddle to facilitate easy installation and cable
management. The rear of the panel features hook and
loop cable retainers at either end for bundling cables.
Each RJ45 port is numbered with a removable
identification label protected by an acetate strip.
The Connectix voice panel comprises of 3 separate units
that have a single input at the rear, which is distributed to
4 outputs on the front. This allows up to 4 extensions to
share a single phone line within each of the units. The
units can be connected together giving the option of 8 or
12 extensions from a single line.
The blank panel is ideal to fill any spaces not filled by the
other panels.

UHF signals from the lounge equipment are fed back to
the unit via an Uplink cable. In the unit this feed is
combined with the VHF signals and amplified to provide
eight additional outlets. In this way all off air and local
CCTV and settop box signals (except IF) are available for
connection to outlets in other rooms of the house.
A straight forward ‘Star Wired’ installation is all that is
needed to get the unit up and running.
The Connectix Home CT100 is a 75 Ohm coax cable,
ideal for Video/TV distribution around the home.
This cable is available in both PVC and low smoke zero
halogen versions.

Optix have developed a cost effective preterminated cabling system called Opal™ (Optical
Pre-Assembled Link) which is completely based
around standard networking products. The system
allows a fibre optic network to be installed in a
fraction of the time taken by conventional on-site
direct termination or fusion splicing. It requires no
special installation skills or equipment, and can
therefore be installed by non-specialist personnel,
vastly reducing the installation cost.
The system consists of standard internal / external tight
buffered distribution cable, which is supplied in specific
lengths for each cable run in an installation. This cable is
available in multimode or singlemode with fibre counts of
4, 8, 12, 16 or 24.
The cable is factory prepared with a gland on each end
which is epoxy bonded onto the kevlar strain relief yarn in
the cable. The secondary coated fibres are terminated
with either ST, SC, LC or FC-PC connectors which are
fully tested and certified under our quality system. This
ensures that the quality of the complete cable assembly
is guaranteed before shipping to site.
has a small diameter and is flexible, lightweight and
extremely rugged. The protection sleeve connects onto
the epoxy bonded cable gland and can withstand the
high tensile loads applied when pulling cables through
ducts. A pulling eye is incorporated to allow the
attachment of a draw cable.
After cable installation, the protection sleeves are
removed and the connectors are threaded through the
gland hole of any cable management enclosure. A gland
nut is used to secure the cable gland in place. The
connectors are simply connected to the adaptors inside
the enclosure to complete the installation.
Opal ™ Options
A specially developed termination protection sleeve is
fitted to each end of the cable assembly to protect the
connectors during shipping and installation. This sleeve

Internal/External Uni-loose
Tube Distribution Cable
Features & Benefits
Fire retardant LSZH jacket
Up to 24 fibres
Choice of fibre type and specification
Small diameter
Water and UV resistant
Internal or external use
Small bending radius
Low cost
Steel tape armoured version available
The Optix multi-purpose uni-loose tube distribution
cable provides a highly cost effective solution to all
internal or external datacomms cabling requirements,
particularly where on site fusion splicing of pigtails is
the preferred termination technique.
The cable consists of a single central uni-tube containing
individually colour coded 250µm buffered fibres. This
tube is embedded in an Aramid yarn strength member,
and oversheathed with a single Low Smoke Zero
Halogen (LSZH) outer jacket. The outer jacket is flame
retardant, UV stabilised and extremely resistant to the
ingress of moisture.
A choice of multimode and singlemode fibre types and
specifications are offered (see fibre specification sheet) with
fibre counts from four to twenty-four in the standard range.
Their very small diameter, light weight and excellent
environmental performance makes these cables ideal for
installation in a broad range of network applications
including LAN backbones, networks with mixed indoor
and outdoor cabling, outdoor in flooded ducts and any
premises distribution system.
Free Cut to Length Service
Connectix hold extensive stock of a complete range of multi purpose
uni-loose tube distribution cables. We offer a fast turnaround cut to
length service providing custom lengths to your exact requirements.
This service is free of charge, and all orders from stock can be available
for next day delivery.

The cable consists of individually colour coded 900µm
secondary coated fibres, embedded in an Aramid yarn
strength member, and oversheathed with a single Low
Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) outer jacket. The outer
jacket is flame retardant, UV stabilised and extremely
resistant to the ingress of moisture.
A choice of multimode and singlemode fibre types and
specifications are offered (see fibre specification sheet) with

The Optical Wavelength Technologies light sources
and power meters provide a simple economic
method of measuring optical power in a variety of
fibre cables.
There are two power meters in the range, the Silicon
ZOOM which is suitable for 850nm multi-mode cables
and the Zoom universal, suitable for 850/1300/1550nm
multimode and singlemode cables. Both have a 3 digit,
0.1dB resolution display and a measurement range of +3
to -52 dBm (55dB), with an accuracy of 0.24 dB.
Reference values are stored for calibrated wavelengths
and a simple selector switch toggles between dBm
(optical power) and dB (optical loss) readings.
A wide range of light sources are available for use with
ZOOM power meters. The Laser Owl Range are for use
with singlemode cables, and are available with either
1310nm, 1550nm or both 1310 and 1550nm outputs.
The LED Owl range are for use with multimode cables
and are available with 850nm, 1300nm or both 850 and
1300nm outputs. All are simple to use with a power
switch, that is also used to select the different
wavelengths on the dual wavelength models, and an
indicator LED to show power is on, and whether there is
enough battery power to maintain calibrated output
power.

The cabinet is finished in goose grey with a lockble ash
grey perspex inset door.
Rax 19” Wall Mounted Frames are an ideal solution when
installation space is a premium.
The steel framework provides sufficient durability for
environments such as risers or shafts. The design allows
maximum access to the internal equipment through the
top, base and side entrances. The wall mounting frame
can also be a cost effective solution for smaller networks
and workgroups where a cabinet is not required.
Accessories
A full range of cabinet accessories are available including Wall Mounting
Frames, PDU’s, Fixed Shelves, Telescopic Shelves, Castors, Cage
Nuts, Baying Kits, Roof Mounting Fan Units and Plinths. See page 66.

Cabinet
Accessories
Features & Benefits
All accessories colour match our
range of cabinets
Castors are available in 3 sizes, so will
meet any requirements
Baying kits allow up to 5 cabinets to
be joined together
The Rax range of cabinet accessories complement
the variety of floor standing and wall mounted
cabinets. Combined together, these products offer a
complete cable patching solution.
Heavy duty or lightweight castors and jacking feet can be
fitted to raise the cabinet clear of the floor. Castors allow
the cabinet to be moved across even surfaces and
jacking feet level out unequal ground. Cage nuts are
used to fix internal equipment into the cabinet. Baying
kits and earth bonding kits enable two cabinets to be
joined together. Grey painted steel plinths fit beneath the
cabinet to allow cable access from the base, sides and
rear and are available in various widths and depths.
Shelves are available in three different formats: fixed,
cantilever and telescopic. Cantilevers and fixed shelves
are pressed steel, fitting horizontally between the
uprights. Telescopic shelves operate a slide in-out
feature.

These switches are designed specifically for small
workgroups, with the choice of 5, 8 or 16 ports
depending on specific requirements.
All ports are auto-negotiating, auto-sensing,
10/100Mbps Ethernet. Presented on standards based
RJ-45 connectors. When a connected device device
supports auto-negotiation the switch and device will
automatically the best common mode of operation. If the
attached device does not support the auto-negotiation
then the switch will select the correct operating speed
and default to half-duplex mode. Each of the ports will
detect whether it needs to present itself as either an MDI
or an MDI-X to connect to the link peer. This means that
there is no need to worry about cross over cables or
uplink ports on connected devices.

Cabinet space is too valuable to have it taken up by
stacks of voice panels. That is why Connectix now
offer a high-density voice panel packing 50
dedicated voice ports in a 1U panel.
Each 8-way RJ45 socket has three pairs connected. This
ensures that the panels can be used with analogue,
digital and ISDN systems. Designed to match the data
panels in the Connectix range it will also accept the
Connectix Cable Tidy Rings so no additional rack space
gets taken up by cable management panels.

The VC provides the end user with the flexibility to run
various telecommunication applications including
telephones and modems through the RJ45 modular
outlet.
Using a VC eliminates the problems associated with
installing separate telephone and data systems on the
same premises. By flood wiring the network, installers
may alternate between data and telecomms within the
structured cabling system. VC’s are supplied leaded in
lengths of 50mm and 150mm, or in special lengths to
order.

89
Installation
Practices
In order to meet the stringent requirements of the
ISO/IEC 11801 and TIA/EIA-568-B specifications for
Category 5 E and Category 6 wiring systems, it is
essential that the following guidelines are adopted. This
will ensure that the installation provides an efficient and
reliable service throughout it’s lifetime.
Do not use undue strain when cable pulling
(maximum 25lb)
Cables should not be joined to increase length. If
cables are found to be short they must not be rerouted by a less suitable path, but must be re-run.
Cables must be secured so as to relieve any
mechanical stress on the terminations.
Avoid high temperature environments, power cable,
lift shafts, switch gear and any other sources of
interference.
All cable runs should be concealed, and Cable
Routes e.g. mini-trunking, should run parallel or
perpendicular to walls.
When cable routes pass through walls the holes
must be sleeved and the cables exit and enter at
90° to the wall.
Cable ties must be finger tight only. Over tight ties
deform the geometry of the cable and effect its link
performance. They should not be so tight as to
distort the outer sheath of the cable.
Cable bundles should be limited to 50 cables to
avoid crushing the lower cables in the bundle.
Care must be taken to avoid kinks in the cable
during cable pulling.
Any cabling over suspended ceilings must be laid in
standard cable trays and supported every 1.2 to 1.5
metres to avoid any possible movement.
The minimum bend radius during installation is
75mm, and 25mm once installed.
90
All cables must be free of tension along the entire
route, and cable supports should be used to
distribute any strain.
All metallic conduit and trunking must be earth
bonded in accordance with the IEE wiring
regulations.
All cable exits must be bushed or sleeved so as not
to cause damage to the cable’s outer sheath.
Space should be left to allow for additional cables to
be run in the existing cable routes. It is
recommended that conduit and trays should not be
filled to more than 80% fill capacity therefore leaving
a minimum of 25% spare cable route capacity
available for future system expansion.
