Instructions
The monitor will power up and will display
a grey screen until the repeater and
camera are set up and turned on.
Setting up in the hauler
Ensure the aerial that is magnetically
mounted to the roof of the hauler is
directed towards the repeater. If the
roof of the hauler and the repeater are
not at the same level, the signal will be
strongest when the aerial is tilted up or
down towards the repeater. A shim or
washer can be used to provide a small
tilt angle.
Setting up the repeater
The repeater fits entirely in one backpack
labelled “CutoverCam Repeater”:
Ensure there is sufficient separation
between the CutoverCam aerial and
aerials for other radio equipment to
avoid interference.
Power up the system in the cab using
the button or switch on the front of the
electrical cabinet.

Setting up the camera
The camera assembly is split between a
large plastic case and a backpack
labelled “CutoverCam”:
Find a location with good line-of-sight to
both the hauler and the location where
the camera is to be set up. Set up the
repeater by putting the stake in the
ground, assembling the poles, guying,
adding the battery and plugging in the
power as shown here:
Note that, as for the repeater, a stake
needs to be attached to the side of the
pack.
The contents of the pack are shown
below:
At least one green light will display on
the repeater when it is powered up.
Assemble the camera in a location with
a good view of the breakout area and
clear line-of-sight to the repeater. Put
the stake in the ground, assemble the
poles, attach the camera and the aerial,
insert the battery and guy the camera.
Then plug the leads into the “main” port
on the aerial and the circular connector
on the bottom of the camera housing:

The CutoverCam has been designed to
improve the safety and efficiency of
hauling operations.
However, the
CutoverCam is not a replacement for the
talkie-tooter system; it is a tool that can
be used to provide visual information in
addition to current systems.
Wireless connections are vulnerable to
disruption which can create a hazard
where the image on the screen is not a
live view. If no image is received for a
period of one second, a warning that the
“stream is not live” is displayed on the
screen.
If the camera is on the back face, looking
back towards the hauler, the operator
may wish to mirror the image by pressing
the right button on the joystick.
The left button on the joystick turns on
back-light compensation allowing the
hauler operator to see shaded areas in a
brightly lit setting.
Troubleshooting
Make sure the aerial is pointing directly
at the repeater for optimal signal
strength. When power is applied, the
camera will move to find its limits and
lights will appear on the aerial. The
lights indicate signal strength.
After one minute, a live picture will
display in the cab and the joystick can
be used to adjust pan, tilt and zoom of
the camera.

open the electrical cabinet and check if
there is a blue light indicating that the
computer is on. If there is no blue light
then check the fuse at the bottom of the
cabinet shown here:

The camera is mounted on compliant
mounts to protect it from impacts or
vibration.
However, if the camera is
subjected to a significant impact or large
vibrations, the rubber mounts may break.
If this occurs, the broken mount will need
to be replaced. Contact Cutover Systems
Limited for a replacement mount.
The poles are designed to be light. This
means they can go out-of-round if
dented.
Avoid using the poles as a
lever-bar to remove the stake from the
ground as this can damage the poles.

If the screen is blue, this means
the monitor is not getting a signal from
the computer. Check that the computer
is powered up. Then check that the
HDMI monitor cable is securely plugged
in to the computer and the monitor.

If the screen is grey then the
computer is working but images are not
getting from the camera to the hauler.
Make sure there are lights showing on
the aerials on the roof of the hauler, on
the repeater and on the camera. If
there is no power on one of these units
then check the leads and plugs for
damage. Also, check the fuse on the
side of each battery and make sure the
battery is not flat.

If the lights on the aerials are on
but the screen is still grey, make sure
the aerials are aligned correctly. Also,
check that the camera moves when its
power is cycled.
•
If the fuse inside the camera
housing has blown, it can be replaced
by partially disassembling the camera
housing by undoing four screws.
•
If the poles on the repeater or
camera do not fit together easily they
may have gone out-of-round.
Either

a muffler shop to re-expand the
damaged section of pole.

The windscreen can be cleaned with a
soft cloth. Do not use solvents as the
plastic may distort.

Avoid pointing the camera at the sun as
this can damage the camera.
