The Veterinary Museum For more information, contact our office listed below. Missouri Veterinary Medical Foundation S ince its founding in 1978, the museum has acquired over 3,500 artifacts. The collection includes materials and objects from the 16th century to the present. Artifacts, such as manuscripts used by European immigrants, an 1880s trunk filled with dental tools for horses, microscopic slides used by early 20th century veterinary students, a 1920s operating table for small animals, and orthopedic rods and pins used in recent decades explain the development of veterinary medicine in Missouri. You’re invited to stop by and view our display of historic and current veterinary medicine. The museum is open Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday by appointment. Phone: 573-636-8737 • Fax: 573-659-7175 Email: [email protected] Website: www.movma.org MVMFbro - 6/11 Promoting the Health and Welfare of Missouri’s Animals Celebrating the Human/Animal Bond A s a public charity, that supports the charitable and educational purposes and activities of the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), the Missouri Veterinary Medical Foundation focuses on public education and animal welfare issues to further the health of animals in Missouri. The Foundation board is comprised of members who work closely with the leadership of the MVMA on activities and issues of mutual concern. The Foundation plans and implements many new outreach programs including public education events and activities dedicated to the relationship between people and animals. As part of its overall public education efforts, the Foundation will continue to develop and enhance the veterinary museum as a tool to teach the general public about the profession and about the history of animal health care. In addition, the Foundation has expanded it’s presence to the internet with an informative web-site, and pet memorial program. Our Goals & Objectives • Monetary support for other worthy charitable organizations such as Heifer International, medical care for search and rescue dogs and the Hope spay/neuter programs in Kansas City. • Promotion of veterinary healthcare and the Missouri Veterinary Medical Foundation programs through our internet website. • Public education on the benefits of veterinary healthcare. • Continuing education and other programs for veterinarians. • Promotion of veterinary medicine through our museum. • Educate children in Missouri about the humane treatment of animals and their productive use as part of the natural order. The Foundation takes its outreach program to fairs and festivals in central Missouri. One of the many school groups who visit the Veterinary Museum of Missouri each year. MVMAmember veterinarians fund the cost for a guided tour of the museum. People Helping Animals, Animals Helping People The museum’s interactive area offers fun and learning for children of all ages.
