Introduction
In my opening remarks to last year’s brochure, I described myself as a not quite retired
elder statesman. In fact, I have been more involved in the last year than previously and still
enjoying it and still I think and hope making a contribution, I probably will be around
hopefully for a little while to come.
We have a few new destinations and of course a few tried and trusted ones and I really
would like to start with the most tried and trusted of all, that is Thailand. In fact, as I write
these few notes for you I am just ready to leave Ireland to join the Kerry Hurling Team
celebrating their win in the Christy Ring trophy on their holiday in Thailand and it emphasises
to me just what incredibly good value it is compared to anywhere else. We have I think
become just a little blasé about the place but the quality of the golf really remains untouched
anywhere in the world. If you exclude, in their view, the expensive ones such as St Andrews
and Laem Chabang, which still only cost something like €90-€100 for a green fee, caddy
and transfers, you can have really a terrific day’s golf for less than €75 including your caddy,
your buggy and your green fee. When you take into consideration the quality of the golf
courses, it really is something special.
We continue to stay and enjoy the Asia Hotel, ideally located for everybody – within walking
distance of excellent bars and restaurants and only within five minutes of the town centre of
Pattaya. Again within five minutes without going into Pattaya, you also have three of the
best restaurants you could get anywhere in the world for not exactly gourmet dining but
definitely very high quality dining.
I suppose now for the last couple of years our entertainment trip has been one of our huge
successes and last year in Marbella, it was repeated with I have to admit one glitch in my
selection of one the golf courses and the type of competition that we played. It would
appear that even after 35 years in the business you still can make a mistake, something to
which I readily hold my hands up to.
I have given a great deal of consideration to the venue for this year’s trip and I have finally
come to the conclusion that the Amaragua Hotel in Torremolinos is the ideal location.
It is somewhere like 10 minutes from Malaga airport, which really is an asset which takes an
awful lot of beating. I had almost made my mind up that we were going to go back to
Barrosa but Barrosa, although it probably would be in many ways the ideal venue, is, no
matter what way you look at it, 2.5 hours minimum from Malaga airport by coach and for
people going for a week, I know that would be a factor that would put them off.
Having investigated the Amaragua situation thoroughly, I decided that it was just something
that we didn’t have to take on because the alternative in Torremolinos is outstanding.
The hotel is lovely, very good quality four star and the entertainment room of course is in the
hotel itself. We are, as we were last year, overlooking the Paseo and the beach and the hotel
is situated almost exactly half way between the Benalmadena port and the famous Carihuela
area of Torremolinos, so really we have all things going for us. We will include three dinners
probably on the entertainment nights so that people are in situ as it were for those but you
have an absolutely incredible array of restaurants and bars of all descriptions all within
immediate striking distance and of course the bar in the hotel itself is of the highest quality
as well.
One of the other things we have done when moving to Torremolinos is that we have upped
the quality of our golfing programme significantly. I am delighted to say that we have
been able to secure Santana Golf Club, Parador and Santa Maria. For the 10 night trips
there will be an extra round on Calanova. This three day golfing programme definitely is
something extremely attractive and is of very high quality indeed and I know everybody will
be delighted with it.
It seems somewhat incongruous to talk about the entertainment trip for a couple of
paragraphs and not mention the stars themselves but I am delighted to say that as of now
everybody wants to go back again but of course you always have the minor problem that if
something comes up, which is particularly attractive, such as Rebecca doing six weeks run of
Blood Brothers or something like that, they would not be able to fulfil their commitment to
the trip but as of now everybody from last year’s trip is planning to be part of our great
week/10 days long party in Torremolinos.
I have discovered and will be using a really lovely new destination in the north of Spain this
year. I was invited down to have a look and didn’t think that I would find anything
particularly new but I am delighted to say that I have found something which is particularly
attractive and which we are using for a couple of trips next year. It is the delightful seaside
town of Cambrils, which is just south of Barcelona and our hotels are right on the beach and
have all the facilities you could imagine nearby. It also of course offers the facility of direct
flights from Cork, Belfast and Dublin into Barcelona on a regular basis. When I was thinking
of going to Cambrils, the agent down there when he
heard that Sesimbra was a place that we had been to,
immediately said that if we like Sesimbra, we would
really be in love with Cambrils and he is absolutely right – it is very similar in outlook to
Sesimbra with many more, in fact, restaurants on the seafront and bars readily at our disposal.
We will be playing three rounds of golf there, two at the North and South courses of Lumine,
not a particularly attractive name but Greg Norman designed courses, new and absolutely of
the very highest quality.
The other golf day will be at Bonmont, which is a Robert Trent Jones creation, a members club
but again very attractive. All three golf courses are located within less than 20 minutes of the
resort so no time is wasted on transfers.
I do think that this will be a particularly attractive destination and that everybody will enjoy it.
Another new destination, which I discovered last year is el Rompido, which is actually in Spain
but is accessed through Faro in Portugal.
Again one of the main advantages of this particular destination is the fact that so many flights
go straight into Faro making it readily accessible. It is just about 40 minutes from Faro airport
and the hotel, the Precise Resort El Rompido, in El Rompido is five star, lovely pool and right
next door to it a quite magnificent golf course. The clubhouse is in fact where we will be
having one of the dinners – half board is included for the week – and the clubhouse is so close
that it is a simple stroll from the hotel.
I had a look at the hotel this summer, really enjoyed it, stayed there for a week and although it
is a little bit isolated, the nearby town of El Rompido is served by a free shuttle going every
half an hour. That also brings you to a really lovely beach where you can spend a most
enjoyable day.
I suppose one of the main advantages of it is the access to the magnificent golf courses. They
are ready to develop and because of that, the price we are able to offer is quite outstanding.
There are two trips there in particular next year, there is a bridge and golf trip in October and a
lovely entertainment trip in May including two of the greats of Irish show business, Paddy Cole
and Joe Cuddy. I think anybody looking for a nice golfing week with some entertainment and
relaxation could not find anything better than El Rompido in May.
We feature some superb Irish short breaks this year in the West of Ireland , South West and
a package to take in the Irish Open in Royal Portrush which will be a weekend not to miss.

The final new destination this year is once again influenced by our hurling friends the
Kilkenny Hurling team who recently celebrated their 2011 All Ireland win in Cancun Mexico.
They had a fantastic time so we have organised a really special 5* trip next October. Read
on in this brochure for more details on this not to be missed trip.

Entertainment Trip 2012
24th Sept. to 1st Oct.
Torremolinos, Spain
We again had an absolutely wonderful week in Marbella in September this year
where we highlighted all our wonderful entertainers from the year before plus the
addition of another superstar in Cara O’Sullivan from Cork.
I am delighted to say that in common with all the other artists, Cara has agreed to
come back again in 2012.
In fact, all our entertainers will be back subject of course to the fact that these are
plans that are being made in November, 10 months in advance and artists such as
these are always likely to get bookings that are financially at a level that they
simply can’t refuse. People like Rebecca can be offered for example a contract for
yet another six weeks of Blood Brothers or another show of a similar nature and
this would make it impossible for her to attend but as of now we look forward to
welcoming everybody back.
When we left Marbella last year, I really thought that we would go back if we could
get the main hotel, the El Fuerte, where we held our entertainment nights at a
relatively reasonable price. Unfortunately the hotel decided that the amount of
money they wanted was astronomical and I reluctantly just had to walk away and
decide we couldn’t do it. I gave a great deal of soul searching to the venue, went
to Spain to re-inspect and discuss with my contacts down there and I had virtually
made up my mind that the venue was going to be Barrosa but have now changed
to the Amaragua Hotel in Torremolinos.
There are a number of reasons for it but the main one is transport – the hotel is
located literally only 15 minutes from the hotel making access from all Irish airport
as easy as it can possibly be.
This decision was reinforced by the fact that I think that the Amaragua is a super
destination.
There are no five star hotels in Torremolinos but the Amaragua, having inspected a
lot of them, is unarguably the best four stars there is there. It is ideally located
within five minutes walk of the Benalmadena port on one side and the Carihuela
traditional fishing port on the other. It also is directly overlooking the beach with
a beautiful pool, lovely bar and this time the entertainment venue is in the hotel
itself, so it really does have everything going for it especially the fact that it is
something like 10 to 15 minutes from Malaga airport.
This means that although our main entertainment week will be focused between
the 24th of September and the 1st of October, a lot of people same as this year will
have the facility of going out for 10 days and in fact if people want to come for 9, 8
or any other number of days, no problem because the transfer from the airport to
the hotel is a simple job of getting into a taxi and paying something like €15. The
difficulty with Barrosa of course is that we would have to impose absolute
limitations because a taxi from Barrosa to Malaga airport costs something like
€350-€400 so this is not something that we could take a chance of getting
involved in.
One of the other decisions we came to was that we wanted to up the standard of
the golf. It is no real secret that one of our day’s golf in Marbella last year left a
great deal to be desired and the other two were good rather than great. I am
delighted to say that I have been able to include what I consider one of the very
best golf courses in the area, Santana, in our programme. The other two courses
we are using are Santa Maria and Parador. Parador is just beside the airport, a

beautifully laid out course, been there for a long time and in fact held the Spanish
Open in the last three years, so an extremely enjoyable, playable golf course, dead
flat and more than welcoming.
Finally, I do feel that we have a trip well able to reach and even surpass the
standards of the last two years so I look forward to welcoming everybody for an
absolutely fantastic trip to the Amaragua Hotel in Torremolinos next September.

Easter and GAA Hall of Fame
I am delighted to be able to welcome you to a relatively new destination, although
we have played the golf courses before coming from another area.
The Costa Dorada area is accessed either through Barcelona airport with Aer Lingus
or Reus with Ryanair. For groups we tend to use Aer Lingus as Ryanair
unfortunately do not offer group facilities any longer, which means it is impossible
to actually budget a price since flight costs can change at any time.
I was invited down to have a look at the area last year by Tomas Bjorklund and felt
it was worth having a look at when I heard his reaction to our type of client. He
himself formally was a Swedish tour operator and when I told him that we used
Sesimbra in Portugal rather than the Algarve, he immediately said that this was
the place for us. I took him at his word, went to have a look and I have to say he is
exactly right.
The two hotels we are using are perfectly nice ones; the Monica in Cambrils is
smaller than the usual but lovely ambience, within 2 minutes walk of the beach
and of lovely selections of shops, bars and restaurants. It has everything going for
it, just the kind of place that Irish people will really enjoy. It is about 45 minutes
from Barcelona and quite close to Salou and Tarragona and many other attractive
tourist destinations in the north east of Spain.
The crowning glory perhaps is the golf. The golf is played at two places, at Lumine
and Bonmont. Lumine has a very unattractive name, which means nothing to
most people and their two courses are simply described as north and south,
whereas Bonmont is a Robert Trent Jones creation, quite distinctive, private
members club and really gorgeous. Having said that, I think Lumine is the jewel in
the crown. The courses are designed by Greg Norman, a large investment was
made in them a few years ago and they are just ready for development. Because
of our experience in getting into places early, we are able to offer really
outstanding prices there for such a high quality golf and the advantage is that all
three courses are only 15 minutes away from the hotel.
We will be going there for Easter and we will also take our GAA Hall of Fame trip
there in the first week of October.

This trip, now in its 13th year is a great one – great camaraderie, great chats, really friendly and
in this case we are using the Palace Hotel, which is a bigger one with all the amenities you could
ask for and nearby again many bars and restaurants. The Palace is even closer to the Lumine
golf courses so I think that his particular group, who do enjoy a game of golf, will certainly
really really love the quality that they will find at Lumine and Bonmont.
One of the other assets of this particular area is that an extra round of golf over and
above the three, which we find is enough for our travellers nowadays, the cost is only
€50. All three golf courses are quite flat, but buggies are readily available for those
who want them and in plentiful supply.
I certainly think that this area is somewhere that we will be travelling to not only this
year but for many years to come.

Cancun & The Treasures

Cancun is one of those destinations that everyone has heard of but few have been. A fantastic holiday
resort for many years it is now up there with the best golf destinations and in the last ten years or so
some of the finest golf courses have come to life. The downside is that the golf is very exclusive which is
another word for expensive but we have been able to secure some very good rates four our future
groups.
The resort itself has everything you might want including outstanding hotels, postcard beaches,
excellent shopping, great choice of restaurants and some very good day trips that are highly
recommended during your stay.
The most important thing for the Irish of course is weather and here the climate is absolutely perfect in
October, November and December and our brochure trip will be from the 11th October for ten nights with
an option to stay on a few extra days if you wish. Flights are with Delta Airlines out of Dublin via Atlanta
but there are other options through London depending on availability.
We will be using the 4* Iberostar Hotel, which is situated on the beach and on the other side you have
the magnificent Cancun Golf Club. The package here would be all-inclusive which covers your breakfast
and evening meal and with five outstanding restaurants to choose from you are spoiled for choice. The hotel is literally ten to fifteen minutes drive from Cancun Airport and five minutes from
the centre of Cancun so location is absolutely ideal.
The golf programme would be four rounds, three at the local course and one at the Playa Paraiso Golf Club, which is another terrific course and only fifteen minutes from the hotel. There is
always the option of playing extra golf and if you really want to spoil yourself you could play either Moon Palace, designed by Jack Nicklaus or Playa Mujeres, which was designed by Greg
Norman. Both are outstanding courses but on the expensive side but readily available and we can prebook or book when you get there.
Cancun also offers a range of fascinating day trips to the famed archaeological sites in the area such as Tulum, Coba and Chichen Itza. Must do and see while in Cancun. All in all this is a really

Our first trip to this wonderful new destination Cambrils situated just south of
Barcelona. Our base this week will be the Monica Hotel situated near the beach,

ARIZONA - Between the months of October and April, this is one of the top golfing destinations in the US and one that
we highly recommend. Flights are into Phoenix via London, Atlanta, Philadelphia or New York. Just a 25 minute transfer from
the airport, Scottsdale is a truly excellent base and absolute paradise for golfers.

extremely attractive. Nightlife is a lot quieter and prices are generally higher however the resort offers some great
accommodation and some even better golf courses. Access is through Atlanta or New York into Savannah followed by a 40
minute drive on to Hilton Head Island. If you are looking at a top of the range golfing holiday, Hilton Head Island can also be
combined with a few days at Kiawah Island, where you have five of the top golf courses in the United States. It is expensive
but undoubtedly an unforgettable golfing experience.
