Mission Statement
To Our Residents:,
Letter to the Residents
We just completed the installation of the gymnasium wood floor at the Central Park Building. While the
floor held up for 41 years, the system under the flooring had failed in numerous large areas resulting in
us having no choice but to do a total tear out. We appreciate the patience of all while this project was in
process and look forward to breaking in this new floor with all our program participants!
Work will begin on replacing the parking lots at Jesk Park and Gene Leonard Park, the walking paths
behind the Central Park Building and the construction of a walking path around the Don Burns Park in
Gingerwood.
We have refreshed our Health and Fitness Center, located at the Central Park Building - we offer a wide
variety of classes and have a complete line of cardio and strength training machines. We are also home
to Silver Sneakers, Silver and Fit and, Silver and Prime; check with your insurance carrier to see if you
qualify for the benefit. Stop in anytime for a tour of the facility!
We said goodbye to our Recreation Supervisor Stephanie McDonald. Stephanie was instrumental in
working with our sport groups and bringing in a variety of programs. The Lagoon Fire Over the Water
event every June, will always be a great reminder of the one of many events she brought to this District
for families to enjoy. Thank you Stephanie for all you have given to this Park District!
We also said our goodbyes to Matt Murtaugh, our Maintenance Supervisor for the Central Park Building.
We considered Matt to be our very own “MacGyver”. Not only did he manage the everyday operations
of the building, he was able to make many repairs around this building, which resulted in savings to the
District. Thank you Matt for all your hard work and dedication to keeping us operational!
Should you have an idea or talent that could be offered as a program we would enjoy hearing
from you. If you are able to assist us with a special event we encourage you to call us.

This is your child’s first step towards independence. The main focus of this program is to help children easily separate
from parent and caregiver, and become more independent. Children learn to play by themselves and with others, as
well as share toys. Puzzles, coloring activities, finger plays, etc. help stimulate small motor skills. Gross motor skills are
developed through physical activity. Daily activities include crafts, coloring pages, stories, rhymes, songs and music,

Park District Sports
Committees
Code of Conduct
Youth Sports are designed and organized to enhance the physical, emotional,
social and educational well being of
children. As role models, parents must
make a serious effort to take an active
role in the youth sports experience of
their child providing positive support
as a spectator, coach, league official or
board member. Demonstrating sportsmanlike behavior as a parent, a fan or
a coach will teach our children how
to demonstrate good sportsmanship
toward others in their play. The Oak Forest Park District has a Code of Conduct
for Players, Parents/Spectators and
Coaches, outlining positive behavior
and encouraging good sportsmanship.
A copy of these are available at the park
district upon request or to view online.
In addition, the background of volunteers has become a national concern.
To address this concern, the Oak Forest
Park District has researched and created
a volunteer coach background check
procedure. The Board of Commissioners
has a policy for all youth sport organizations desiring the use of Oak Forest Park
District athletic fields and facilities. This
policy requires that all coaches consent
to a background check.
Spring Sports

district programs.
Persons residing in SSSRA member
agency communities are considered

Park District, Homewood-Flossmoor
Park District, Lan-Oak Park District,
Matteson Recreational Division, Oak
Forest Park District, Olympia Fields
Park District, Park Forest Recreation &

Professional staff with experience
in the field of Therapeutic Recreation or a related field supervise all
SSSRA programs. They are assisted by
individuals who are trained by SSSRA
staff in specific areas of therapeutic
recreation.
Scholarships are available to SSSRA
residents with disabilities who would
like to participate in one or more
programs, but cannot afford the fees
charged.
Through the Inclusion process, SSSRA
staff members are available to help
participants choose an appropriate
