Moosabec Reach & Bass Harbor Update
Newsletter #3
Canadians Steal Show at Moosabec Races
DODGE IT, owned by Joey Simpson of Cape Sable Island, Nova Scotia.
MOOSABEC REACH/BASS HARBOR – With two races down
(Boothbay and Rockland) we were scheduled to head to Bass
Harbor next, but Mother Nature had other ideas with lots of rain
and wind gusts up to 40 mph. The rain would not have stopped
the event, but the wind could be a factor and thus the Bass Harbor
race committee decided to move their event to the day after the
Moosabec Reach races, which were scheduled on Saturday the
fourth. This made for a two-race weekend and since both were
points races it could draw more people, and did.
The week before Moosabec and Bass Harbor some racers
were scrambling to either make repairs or just get ready. Shawn
Alley’s LITTLE GIRLS [28’ Calvin Beal Jr.; 514Ford] developed
a keel issue. The keel was built in two pieces and they were
starting to separate. Shawn with assistance from his brother
Thurman and Calvin Beal, Jr., were able to make the repairs in
time for the races. When on my run Downeast, I stopped by C. &
C. Machine in Ellsworth to see how WILD WILD WEST [West
28; 1,050-hp Isotta] was progressing. Looking in the cockpit it was
obvious that there was a problem with the gear, it was not even in
the boat. Glenn Crawford was on the phone looking to see who
had something he could use. He had just three days before the race
and things were not looking good. However, we all know Glenn
and one way or another she would be there and she was. Further
done the coast I stopped over on Beals and saw Galen Alley, who
said that the engine for FOOLISH PLEASURE [30’ Custom Riley
Beal; 712 Ford] was going in the boat that day and that the LORNA
R. [30’ Riley Beal; 496 Chevrolet] was ready. He also said that the
Canadians were definitely coming over with one boat and this was
sparking a lot of interest in the Moosabec races.
As the weekend neared, the weather reports were calling for
great weather with maybe a shower on the Fourth. So long as there
was not fog we would be fine and on the morning of the Moosabec
races we were greeted with beautifully clear skies. Right from the
start racers rolled into the Coast Guard station in Jonesport to signup and when all was said and done we had 90 boats entered one
of them being the Canadian boat DODGE IT [30’, 450 hp Dodge].
There were a lot of spectator boats not racing, lining both sides
of the race course and even more people up on the bridge. Those
running the races, Adrian Rittenhouse and his crew, had done a
great job getting the word out, and many of the spectators wanted
to see the Canadian boat run against FOOLISH PLEASURE.
The first race of the day was for Recreational boats, which is

Bass Harbor’s Wayne Rich’s WIDE OPEN, lost its house and trunk
cabin over the winter.
Troy Alley’s STRIKE 3 won Gasoline Class A. clocked at 24.8 mph.
always a scary event. Alton Smith’s JOHNNY B. GOODE [16’,
200-hp Mercury] goes well over 75 mph and Craig Church’s
EGADS is right there with him. As they came up the course
EGADS got the early lead and Smith did all he could to catch
him, but just could not, losing by three boat lengths. EGADS was
clocked at 81 mph.
At other venues we run three work boat classes, which are for
boats under 24 feet in length. At most of these other venues there
has been less and less participants, but not at Moosabec so they run
several classes of work boats. In Work Boat Class A (Skiffs 16 feet
and under, Outboards up to 30 hp, operators up to 18 years old) we
had three entrants and one we had not seen for quite some time was
Gavin Holland and BABY BARON (Holland 14, 30-hp Yamaha)
and he led start to finish, with Michael Gray’s SHIT DIGGER [14’
Lund; 25-hp Yamaha] in second and Noah Tobias Carver’s DAWN
TREADER [Starcraft 16; 25-hp Mariner] third. In the next race,
Work Boat Class B (Clam/Wrinkle Boat, up to 90 hp) the dominate
boat for as long as anyone can remember has been Ralph Davis’
ALPEX [16’, 90 hp Johnson]. However, as the boats were running
to the finish line he was being seriously challenged, but right at
the line he got ahead for the win. After the races, it was discovered
the other boat had more than 90 hp and was disqualified. Next up
was Working Boat C, (Mounted Hauler up to 60 hp.) First over the
line was Daniel Gray followed by Herman Gary’s FOG CUTTER
[16’ Crestliner; 48-hp Johnson]. In the final Work Boat race of the
day, (Mounted Hauler, 61 hp and over) we had ten boats on the
line. One problem with running the Work Boats is figuring out
who is who. The first boat over the line was a red and blue boat,
but no one knew who it was, second went to Michael Emerson’s
TRIPLE TROUBLE [Starcraft 19, 125-hp Mercury] followed by
James Robinson, Jr.’s NATHANIEL [17’; 115-hp Johnson].
Next came the Wooden Boat Races and for the first time this
season Wayne Rich appeared in his WIDE OPEN [26’ Robert Rich;
350 Chevrolet], but she was minus her house and now sported a
spray-hood. Doug Dodge, who had signed up BRENDA [26’ Doug
Dodge, 350 Chevrolet], saw this had chose not to race. So on the
line for Wooden Boat Race A (Any hp, up to 35 feet 11 inches)
were LITTLE GIRLS and WIDE OPEN. One knew how they
should finish and they did with LITTLE GIRLS first and WIDE
OPEN second. There were no entrants in Wooden Boat Race B
(Any hp, 36 feet and over).
Now came the five Gasoline Classes, which had seven boats
entered. In Class A, Four and Six Cylinder, 24 feet and over, Troy
Alley’s STRIKE 3 was the only entrant and ran the course with
a speed of 24.8 mph. Troy is hoping that he can give D. & L.
Boatworks’ CRY BABY [Alley 24, 200-hp Chevrolet] a run for
her money saying that he can do in the low 30s. The best time we
have for CRY BABY was 35.4 mph at Boothbay Harbor in 2012.
As there was just one entrant in Class B (V8, Up to 375 cid, 24 feet
and over) WIDE OPEN, but skippered by Colyn Rich this time,
and Class C (V8, 376 to 525 cid, 28 feet and over) Randy Durkee’s
BLACK DIAMOND [Holland 32, 454 Chevrolet] they were sent
down the course together. WIDE OPEN got the win between the
two, but they both won their respective classes. We had two racers
signed up for Class D (V-8, 376 and over, 28 feet and over) LITTLE
GIRLS and Galen Alley’s LORNA R., but unfortunately LORNA
R. was not running right and did not come to the starting line so
LITTLE GIRLS ran the course for the win. Now came the race of
the day, FOOLISH PLEASURE facing off against the Canadian
entry DODGE IT. The Canadians have a very competitive circuit
in Nova Scotia, but these are no longer working boats. DODGE IT
is 30 feet long and was a boat used in the 1940s as a real working
lobster boat. When creating the racing hull, she was cut down and
decked over and a 450-hp Dodge engine installed. In Canada they
race down a course to a turning mark, each racer turning in the
opposite direction and then come back for the finish. Last year
they had three major accidents, which caused broken limbs. When
asked about speed they said that they can do over 60 mph. As
the two racers came to the line we all figured this could be real
interesting. When the flagged dropped it looked close and maybe
a quarter of the way down the course with both boats too close to
call FOOLISH PLEASURE made a popping sound, slowed and
went dead. Galen tried to get going again, but there was just a
whining sound. That would be the day for FOOLISH PLEASURE
and later it was learned that she had developed a problem with the
blower plate.
Next up was the Diesel Classes. In Class A (Up to 235 hp,
24 to 31 feet) there were two entrants, Seth Millikin’s FIRST
CHANCE [Webber’s Cove 30, 225-hp John Deere] and Arlin
Alley’s SHELL SHOCK [Cape Dory 28, 210-hp Cummins], which
was won by FIRST CHANCE. There were six racers on the line for
Class B (Up to 235 hp, 32 feet and over). Ennis Wright’s ERIKA

& KYLE [Young Brothers 33; 230-hp Cummings] has dominated
this class as winning in 2008, 2010 to 2013 and did not race in
2009 and 2014 and today he continued his winning ways with an
easy victory. Second over the line was Curtis Robinson’s BETSY
ANN [Calvin Beal 34, 220-ho John Deere] and third went to Chad
Libby’s MYRTLE BELLE [Libby 34, 205-hp John Deere]. Also
competing in this race was Richard Alley’s FAMILY ALLIANCE
[Webber’s Cove 26; 305 hp Cummins], which won his class, Class
C (236 to 335 hp, 24 to 33 feet) as the only entrant in the class and
placed second in the race. In Class D (236 to 335 hp, 34 feet and
over) Dana Beal’s RIGHT STUFF [Libby 34; 300-hp Caterpillar]
has been tough to beat. She began her racing career as SARA
VICTORIA owned by Winifred Alley of Jonesport, 2004. She won
in 2006 and 2007 before being sold to Dana, who changed her
name. Dana won in 2008 to 2013 and second last year, but today
he returned to his winning ways. Zachery Geel’s BARE BOTTON
[Libby 38, 300-hp Caterpillar] took second and Brian Smith’s
ENDANGERED SPECIES [Calvin 36; 320-hp] grabbed third. The
next race, Class E (336 to 435 hp, 24 to 33 feet) found three Holland
boats on the line (Kenton Feeney’s BAD INFLUENCE [Holland
32, 350-hp Yanmar]; Steve Carver’s BIGGER DIRLS [Holland
32, 225-hp John Deere] and Nick Wiberg’s MISS KATIE [Holland
31; 355 hp Cummins]) along with Harris Norton’s FATHER’S
FAVORITE [32’ Novi; 350-hp Caterpillar]. What a race it was but
right after the start BAD INFLUENCE took the lead followed by
BIGGER DIRLS and MISS KATIE and they finished that way.
For the first time Ed Torosian brought MS. ROSE [Mitchell Cove
35; 410-hp Sisu] all the way from New Hampshire to compete in
Class F (336 to 435 hp, 34 feet and over). The next question, was
there anyone who could beat him as he has been the dominate boat
in this class since 2008. MS ROSE jumped into the lead, but right
on his stern was Winifred Alley’s VICTORIA ANN [Calvin Beal
34; 430-hp Cummins] and that is how they finished. Third went to
Brent Davis’ HEE HAW [Wayne Beal 34; 220-hp, John Deere].
There were no entrants in Class G (436 to 550 hp, 28 to 35 feet),
but in Class H (436 to 550 hp, 36 feet and over) we had four on
the line. So far this year Carl Gray’s TURN THE PAGE [Crowley
36; 450-hp Cummins] has been the boat to beat and no one had
anything for him today as he went on for the easy win. Robert
Alley’s ANGEL’S BABY [Calvin Beal 36, 550-hp John Deere]
slid over in second and third went to Cameron Farris’ LINDA
Kenton Fenney’s BAD INFLUENCE and Steve Carver’s BIGGER
DIRLS, with BAD INFLUENCE taking the win by a boat length.
Carl Gray’s TURN THE PAGE of Stonington had another great day
winning Diesel Class H, 4th Diesel Free-for-All, and first World’s
Fastest Working Lobster Boat.
Another very close race was in Diesel Class J between JENNA MARIE, owned by Eric Beal of Milbridge and 16TH AVENUE, Wendall
Bryant of Cutler, which was won by JENNA MARIE
by a boat length.
Page 4. Maine Lobster Boat Racing Newsletter
Cameron Crawford’s WILD, WILD WEST made it and in their first
race was up against Ed Shirley’s MISS KARLEE, both with over
1,000 hp engines. MISS KARLEE did not have enough, but she does
have two new propellers on the way and they hope this will harness
the power she has. WILD WILD WEST had a good day winning
Diesel Class L, 1st Diesel Free-for-All and 3rd World’s Fastest
Recreational Lobster Boat. However in the last race she may have
developed a problem with her turbo. It would be a long night so they
could race at Bass Harbor the following day.
MAVIS II [Wayne Beal 36; 500-hp Volvo]. There was only one
entrant Chris Smith’s MISTY [Crowley Beal 33; 650 hp Scania] in
Class I (551 to 700 hp, 28 to 35 feet) so he was given the win and
would run down the course with the two boats (Wendall Bryant’s
16TH AVENUE [Holland 38, 660-hp Caterpillar] and Eric Beal’s
JENNA MARIE [Northern Bay 36, 610-hp Cummins]) in Class
J (551 to 700 hp, 36 feet over). MISTY won the race between all
three, but the real battle was between JENNA MARIE and 16TH
AVENUE. 16TH AVENUE has done very well in this class, but
JENNA MARIE, a new boat this year, has shown she has some
speed. Right after the start she slowly took the lead, but it was
real close as they came over the finish line with less than half a
boat length separating their bows with JENNA MARIE getting the
win. There were no entrants in Class K (701 to 900 hp, 28 feet
and over), but two everyone wanted to see run was on the line for
Class L (901 hp and over, 28 feet and over) Ed Shirley’s MISS
KARLEE [Mitchell Cove 32, 1,000-hp Caterpillar] and Cameron
Crawford’s WILD, WILD WEST. This should be a real close
battle, but right after the start WILD, WILD WEST took the lead
and expanded it to a two boat length lead at the finish line. At the
Annual Meeting last fall we split Class M (40 feet and over, up to
750-hp) because Downeast we were seeing more than 15 boats
entered. It was thought that more boats might race if split and it
would be more competitive. In Diesel Class M(A) (40 feet and
over, up to 500 hp) six boats came to the line. Milton Merchant’s
MISS TONIA [Libby 41; 500-hp Cummins] jumped into a two
boat length lead and went on for the easy win. Second over the line
was Loren Faulkingham’s DEVINE PROVINCE [Libby 41, 455hp Cummins] followed by Sonny Beal’s NANCY ANNE [Young
Brothers 40; 450-hp Cummins] in third. In Class M(B), (40 feet
and over, 501 to 750 hp) another six boats came to the line and it
was a battle of the Libby 41s. Travis Doughty’s CHELSEY ANN
BRIELLA [Libby 41, 750-hp FPT] jumped into the lead leaving
three boats, Stephen Gell’s HAKUNA MATATA [Libby 41, 700hp C12 Caterpillar], Roman Jordan’s KRYSTAL E. [Osmond 40,
In Diesel Class A, Brandon Murphy of Stonington, returned to defend his win last year with BLACK THUNDAH II and did.
750-FPT] and Logan Alley’s JOY FRANCES [Libby 41, 593-hp
FPT], battling for next three spots. As they neared the finish line
HAKUNA MATATA just edged out KRYSTAL E. by a matter of
feet for second and back right on the transom of KRYSTAL E. was
JOY FRANCES. In the final diesel race of the day, Class N (40
feet and over, 750 hp and over) another six boats came to the line.
As they neared half way there was a close battle between Patrick
Feeney’s FRAID KNOT [Calvin 46, 1150-hp C18 Caterpillar] and
Scott Perry’s RELENTLESS [Duffy 42, 1,000-hp Caterpillar] and
at the finish it was RELENTLESS by a mere half a boat length
over FRAID KNOT. Third went to Andrew Hall’s HURRICANE
[Wayne Beal 40; 855-hp Caterpillar].
Next up was the Gasoline Free-for-All and this would pit
DODGE IT against LITTLE GIRLS. LITTLE GIRLS gave it
her all, but she just did not have enough as DODGE IT screamed
across the finish with a three boat length lead. Third went to WIDE
OPEN.
In the Diesel Free-for-All found MISS KARLEE and WILD
WILD WEST came to the line with five other racers. As they came
up the course WILD WILD WEST was in the lead with MISS
KARLEE back just a boat length and that is how they finished.
Third went to JENNA MARIE with TURN THE PAGE fourth.
In the World’s Fastest Working Lobster Boat the winner was
TURN THE PAGE, with FRAID KNOT second and BIGGER
DIRLS third.
The last race of the day, World’s Fastest Recreational Lobster
Boat, had just three boats come to the line, DODGE IT, LITTLE
GIRLS and WILD WILD WEST. It was all DODGE IT as he
screamed over the finish line with a speed of 62 mph. Second went
to LITTLE GIRLS who was back by five boat lengths.
What a great day of racing and the Canadian racers really
brought out a crowd. There are always those that want just working
boats, but it is all about the show. Working boats can have some
great races, but watch a crowd turn to the sound of a straight piped
gasoline racer. It is too bad that Galen’s FOOLISH PLEASURE
could not give the Canadians a race, but hopefully he is ready for
them next year as they plan to return with maybe a couple of other
racers.
The following day we headed to Bass Harbor and were
greeted with beautiful sunny skies and a warm day. This race had
been canceled on 28 June due to the weather and when it was

rescheduled on the same weekend as Moosabec it was thought that
maybe more racers would attend. Last year they had 73 attendees
and this year 57 signed up. Missing were a number of local racers
and it was wondered if becoming a points race kept some of these
boats on the hook. Wayne Rich did not think that was an issue, but
more they had done it several times and that was enough.
We went back to the usual three Work Boat Classes, beginning
with Class A (Skiffs 16-feet and under with outboards up to 30 hp,
Operator 18 years and younger), which did not have an entrant.
However, Class B (Inboards, outboards, or outdrives 31-90 hp)
has three boats on the line. Nick Lewis’ NO CENTS [Mitchell
Cove 20; 90-hp Yamaha] jumped into the lead leaving Jason
Charles Bulger’s CHARLIE’S PRIDE II [20’ Eastporter, 40-hp
Suzuki] and Colyn Rich’s FULL THROTTLE [18’Novi Skiff;
40-hp Mercury] battling for second and at the finish line it was
CHARLIE’S PRIDE II getting second. In the last Work Boat
Class, Class C (Inboards, outboards or outdrives 90 hp and over),
three boats were entered. Dillion Harper’s HOT DAMN TOO
[Mitchell Cove 20, 150-hp Yamaha] instantly took the lead with
Parker Murphy’s CRABBY II [Mitchell Cove 20, 50-hp Yamaha]
sliding into the second position with third going to Walter Rich’s
WISE’N UP [Crowley Beal 25, 150-hp Yamaha].
In the Gasoline Classes there were no entrants in Class A or E
and with two entrants in Class B (WIDE OPEN and Erin Hanley’s
ERIN’S WAY [General Marine 25; 350 Chevrolet]) and one in
Class C (BLACK DIAMOND) it was decided that they all would
run together with BLACK DIAMOND getting the win in her
class. First over the line was WIDE OPEN, followed by BLACK
DIAMOND and ERIN’S WAY so it was WIDE OPEN first and
ERIN’S WAY second in Class B. There was only one entrant in
Class D (LITTLE GIRLS) and she ran the course by herself.
Next up was the Diesel Classes and in Class A there were
three entrants. Last year Brandon Murphy and his BLACK
THUNDAH II [Repco 30; 210-hp Cummins] won this class and
he was back to defend his title. This he did with ease winning by
several boat lengths. Second went to Charles Dillion’s JANA D.
[Sisu 30, 220-hp John Deere] and third was Junie Harper’s STILL
JUST BITCHIN’ [Beal 31; 175-hp Izusu]. At the Bass Harbor
races Class B has been dominated by David Schlaefer’s CAITLIN
[Osmond 32; 225-hp John Deere] and today was no different as he
Justin Sprague’s BLACK VELVET, an Osmond 36 powered with a
420-hp FPT, racing in Diesel Class F.
led the other five racers to the finish. Right on his stern was Everett
Beers’ MISS KARI LYNNE [Mitchell Cove 32; 220-hp John
Deere] and third went to Cory McDonald’s HELLO DARLIN’ II
[Holland 32]. In Class C, it was Max Goodwin’s FLIRTIN’ WITH
DISASTER [South Shore 30; 265-hp John Deere] showing the
way to the finish. Back by two boat lengths was Joseph Lunt’s
UNCLE BUBBA [Osmond 32; 355-hp Cummins] and Pat
Hanley’s MICHAEL ALAN [Mitchell Cove 32; 300-hp Cummins]
took third. JUSTIN COLBY II [Mitchell Cove 35; 265-hp John
Deere] owned by Robert Lee of Seal Cove has been the boat to
beat in Class D at the Bass Harbor races and right from the start he
led the way to the finish. The real battle was for second as Vaughan
Clark’s OLE MOSSEY [Bruno 35, 315-hp Cummins] just got by
Scott Harper’s DIANA DAWN II [RP 35; 265-hp John Deere] for
second. There was just three boats on the line for Class E and two
of them (BIGGER DIRLS and MISS KATIE) had raced the day
before with BIGGER DIRLS besting MISS KATIE. Also in the
race was James Thurlow’s GAVIN ABBY [Osmond 27, 420-hp
FPT]. MISS KATIE jumped into the lead and never looked back.
BIGGER DIRLS was in a real close race with GAVIN ABBY
and at the line GAVIN ABBY just edged out by a mere three feet
BIGGER DIRLS for second. MS. ROSE was ready to fend off any
challenge in Class F, but he got all he bargained for with LeBaron
Libby, Jr.’s GRAMP’S LEGACY [Libby 34; 410-hp FTP] and in
another extremely close finish the win went to MS. ROSE with
GRAMP’S LEGACY back just a few feet. Greg Lewis’ RACHEL
IRENE [Mitchell Cove 35; 375-hp John Deere] was three boat
lengths back and got third. There was just one entrant (Travis
Lunt’s STEPPIN’ UP [Mitchell Cove 35; 500-hp Volvo]) in Class
G so he joined the five racers in Class H. TURN THE PAGE has
been the boat to beat this season in Class H and as soon as the flag
dropped it was obvious he was going to keep his winning streak
alive. The battle was for second between STEPPIN UP and Colton
Sanburn’s MAMA TRIED [Holland 38, 500-hp Cummins], which
went to STEPPIN’ UP, but she was in Class G thus MAMA TRIED
got second in Class H and third went to Blake Haas’ MAVERICK.
In Class I just MISTY was signed up so she would race down
with Class J, which has been dominated by JENNA MARIE.
MISTY won the race with JENNA MARIE second, but won Class
J. Brian Eaton’s DEFIANCE [South Shore 38, 660-hp Caterpillar]
slid over in second and third went to Andrew Eaton’s SHOCKAH
[Osmond 38, 650-hp Scania]. There was just one entrant in Class

JENNA MARIE had another great day of racing, winning Diesel

K (Jeff Eaton’s LA BELLA VITA [Northern Bay 38; 750-hp
FPT]) so he ran down with the two entrants (MISS KARLEE and
WILD WILD WEST) in Class L. After the Moosabec races Glenn
Crawford had to make repairs to the turbo, which had lost one of
its fins. Would this have an effect? At the started WILD WILD
WEST put out a cloud of black smoke like a smoke-screen from
a World War II destroyer. LA BELLA VITA won the race by two
boat lengths and MISS KARLEE and WILD WILD WEST were
bow to bow for second, or more accurately, first in Class L. At the
line it was WILD WILD WEST by a stem. Three boats came to
the line for Class M(A) and it was another close finish with Nick
Hadlock’s KATELYN NICOLE [Osmond 35; 265-hp John Deere]
just getting by Lewis Bishop’s PROVIDER II [Young Brothers 40,
405 Cummins] for the win. Third went to Wayne Gilley’s MISS
MEADOW [Osmond 40, 375-hp John Deere]. In Class M(B)
Billy Bob Faulkingham’s 51 [Osmond 40, 610-hp Cummins] did
not race at the Moosabec races, but he was here and would be
the odds-on favorite for the win. His real challenge would come
from James Thurlow’s FAMILY TRADITION [Osmond 42, 750hp C13 FPT], but she did not have enough for 51 as they came
over about a boat length apart. Third went to Christopher Sawyer’s
PEYTON CHARLOTTE [Young Brothers 45; 750-hp C13 FPT].
For the final Diesel Class, Class N, two boats were on the line and
it was Jason Gordius’ MISS BEHAVIN’ AGAIN [Duffy 42, 800hp Caterpillar] crossing first with Carroll Staples’ AGE QUON
AGIS [Dixon 45, 800-hp Caterpillar] second.
There was only two entrants in the Wooden Boat Race, up to
35 feet 11 inches, LITTLE GIRLS and WIDE OPEN and we all
knew how they should finish and they did, LITTLE GIRLS first
and WIDE OPEN second. In the Wooden Boat Race, 36 feet and

over, there were no entrants.
LITTLE GIRLS and WIDE OPEN faced off once again in the
Gasoline Free-for-All with the same results.
Six boats were on the line for the Diesel Free-for-All and after
the starting flag dropped there was a battle for first between MISS
KARLEE and WILD WILD WEST. WILD WILD WEST was
spewing lots and lots of black smoke, but she just could not catch
MISS KARLEE for the top spot. Then there was a battle for the
third spot between JENNA MARIE and TURN THE PAGE and at
the line it was TURN THE PAGE by a boat length.
Next up was the Fastest Lobster Boat Race with six boats on
the line. LITTLE GIRLS jumped instantly into the lead and never
looked back. Again there was a battle between MISS KARLEE
and WILD WILD WEST and this time WILD WILD WEST slid
across the finish line just ahead of MISS KARLEE.
The final race of the day was Bass Harbor’s Fastest Lobster
boat and five boats lined up for the race. STEPPIN’ UP jumped
right into the lead and was first to cross the finish line. Back
about two boats lengths was a battle for second and third between
FAMILY TRADITION and RACHEL IRENE who were bow to
bow. At the line second went to RACHEL IRENE and third to
FAMILY TRADITION.
The Bass Harbor races have become one of the favorite
venues on the coast. There are also a lot of different boats that race
here from around Mount Desert Island and that makes the racing
interesting. With the completion of this race we now have four
points races done (as of this printing Stonington is also done), and
now we head to Friendship on 19 July and hopefully everyone that
can will turn out to make this a great event too.
