As our International President, Lion Barry Palmer, from Australia
said as he took the stage in Hamburg… G’day…it’s Great to be a
Lion.
International President Lion Barry has chosen Follow Your Dream
as the theme for Lions Year 2013-2014.
More now than ever there are people in need, and those people need
Lions. There is no time like the present to set your sights on a dream
and inspire Lions in your club/district to achieve a new high standard,
to set a new benchmark. Lions are being asked to Follow Your Dream,
and work hard to ensure a bright future for Lions Clubs International.



Service is more than a dream – it’s our identity.
More members mean more service, and satisfied members
lead to active and engaged clubs.
Lions are making a difference and deserve recognition for
their achievements.
Several years ago, I read Helen Keller’s speech to the Lions Convention
that included the words “Try to imagine how you would feel if you lost
nd
your sight tomorrow…” After being elected as 2 VDG, I realized it is
not too soon to think of a theme for my year as DG. I re-read that
speech and decided to use just a single word…Imagine. I think “Follow
Your Dream” and “Imagine” go hand in hand… we have heard these
words before….but look closely at your activities, your fund raisers.
Are they still relative? If not – start thinking outside the box. Dream,
Imagine… and then make it happen.
I am very much looking forward to this exciting year as your District
Governor. Let’s Dream … and Imagine the possibilities.

DISTRICT GOVERNOR’S OFFICIAL VISIT
The office of the District Governor is the highest authority
within our District. The Lion who holds this office, your
District Governor, was chosen because of his/her
exceptional talents and his/her dedication to Lionism.
Accordingly, proper recognition and respect for the Lion
who holds this office requires the careful attention of the
Clubs within his/her District. No one means to be
inconsiderate and, certainly not rude, but sometimes under
certain circumstances we lack the information to guarantee
a smooth meeting. The following list of suggestions may
prove helpful.
1. Do not have any other programs during the District
Governor’s official visit. The Governor is the program.
2. Publicize your Governor’s visit to ensure excellent
attendance.
3. Have a member (preferably a Past President) meet the
Governor and keep him/her entertained until dinner. It is a
good practice to have him/her meet all the Lions present.
4. The following order of introduction should be used from
the head table:
1st - Vice District Governor (s)
2nd - Past District Governors
3rd - Cabinet Secretary
4th - Cabinet Treasurer
5th - Region Chairperson
6th - District Committee Chairperson
7th - Other Guests
8th - *Zone Chairperson (who will introduce the District
Governor)
*If the Zone Chairperson is not present the District
Governor should be introduced by the Region Chairperson,
Cabinet Secretary, Cabinet Treasurer, Vice District
Governor or Club Officer in the foregoing order.
5. When the Governor is introduced the club members
should rise and applaud and in a like manner should also
stand at the conclusion of his/her talk.
6. Even though the District Governor will most certainly be
a good sport, it is not considered good taste to have the
Tail Twister bother him/her to excess.

7. Remember that the District Governor would like to meet
with your entire Board of Directors and any other
interested club members immediately after your regular
meeting. Try to have 100% attendance to permit the
Governor to be able to respond and offer the best possible
assistance. It would be appreciated if special problems or
questions are made known to the Governor in advance or
his/her visit.
8. Your District Governor welcomes suggestions for
improvements in the administration of the District. Any
ideas of suggested special projects that will encourage
more individual involvement by any LION of District 24-C
will be well received by your Governor.

PROTOCOL
Protocol is the code of etiquette, ceremony and precedence.
It is acceptable procedure and order in all club meetings, so
that when expanded for special occasions, club will treat
visiting dignitaries with proper respect.
Protocol and courtesy go hand in hand; courtesy being a
“favor performed with politeness” and is always in order.
Guests will appreciate it, and new members who are made
to feel welcome, will feel at home and part of the club. The
same rules of courtesy you use in your home should apply to
your club. Because we are the world’s largest and most
active civic organization, we should and must be concerned
about proper and courteous procedures. They tend to instill
confidence in the club’s officers and members, create a
dignified image of the club in the eye of the visitors, and
make the community aware of our concern and efficiency.

Other guests should be seated at a reserved table with an
assigned club host or hostess.

SEATING GUESTS - When seating guests of a head table,
seat the first ranking guest to the right of the presiding
officer, second ranking guest to the left of the presiding
officer, etc. The toastmaster or the presiding officer should
always be seated to the left of the speaker’s stand and the
speaker should always be seated to the right of the
speaker’s stand.
At meetings where ladies are present, it is good practice to
seat men at the ends of the head table. The speaker’s table
should not be too long. Honored guests not seated at the
speaker’s table should be placed directly in front of the
speaker’s table. DO NOT HAVE any vacant chairs at the
head table. DO NOT SEAT on both sides of the table.

LIONS CODE OF ETHICS
TO SHOW my faith in the worthiness of my vocation by
industrious application to the end that I may merit a
reputation for quality of service.
TO SEEK success to demand all fair remuneration or profit
as my just due, but to accept no profit or success at the
price of my own self-respect lost because of unfair
advantage taken or because of questionable acts on my
part.
TO REMEMBER that in building up my business it is not
necessary to tear down another’s; to be loyal to my clients

WHEN EVER a doubt arises as to the right or ethics of my
position or action towards my fellow man, to resolve such
doubt against myself.
